Africa Oyé, the UK's largest free celebration of African music and culture takes place annually in Liverpool. Beginning in 1992 as a series of small gigs in the city centre, the event has gone from strength to strength, moving to its present Sefton Park home in 2002 to cope with demand. With too many negative representations of Africa entrenched in images of war, disease, poverty and famine, Oyé seeks to redress the balance and highlight the fantastic range of cultures, foods, music and artists that make this great continent one of the most vibrant and inspiring in the world. The festival is also a truly international event that harnesses the spirit of multiculturalism and tolerance. It has played host to artists from nations right across Africa and also programmes music from South America and The Caribbean with Salsa, Soca and Reggae always a popular addition to the festivities. But Africa Oyé is about more than music... Over 40 stalls selling the best food, drink, arts and crafts and fashion from Africa and beyond will again be present at the Oyé village along with long time supporter 'News From Nowhere', one of the UK's premier stockists of African music, with all the performing artists and much more on sale, it's a great opportunity to not only take in some of the best roots music around, but take some home with you too. http://www.compufixgb.com

On Sunday, May 21st, 2017 was the 2nd Annual Seoul Africa Festival held in Seoul, South Korea. This year, a new event was added--the African Fashion Show, a display of traditional and modern pieces from around the continent, modeled by the beautiful people of those countries. The festival had information about various countries, cultures, and people of Africa, from non-profit organizations to African vendors based in Korea to a number of African embassies. There were dance, music, and story-telling performances as well. This video is how I personally experienced the festival! It was great to see so many African kings and queens grace the space, and seeing Koreans and people of all cultures embrace Mama Africa! For the fashion show, skip ahead to the 2:42 mark. -------------------------------------------------------------------- For more about my life in Korea, SUBSCRIBE!! Unfortunately I'm limited with only a 1 month visa in Sudan therefore for I have to make returns to Khartoum (capital city) in order to renew my visa. Luckily I came to witness this amazing food cultural festival in Khartoum where mostly West and Southern Sudanese people prepared traditional foods and performed amazing dances. My one concern in Sudan is that the representation of southern and Western Sudanese people is very rare. They are typically the much darker skinned people. They are so incredibly friendly and beautiful that it kills my heart to see how their circumstances currently are.

The First African Fashion and Art Festival will be held in Lagos, Nigeria. “The greatest African cultural show on earth” in the 21st century, AFAF ‘16 will be “an extraordinary demonstration of the richness, diversity, and vitality of black art- both contemporary and traditional- throughout the world.” Following a series of development projects, the organizers of the AFAF and its sponsors both locally and internationally assigned (GLAMOUR WEST AFRICA) to take charge of the preparation of the executive planning of the programme scheduled to come off in Lagos cosmopolitan city especially for the provision of accommodation for the visitors during the events. This maiden edition of AFRICA FASHION & ART FESTIVAL in this millennium is established to achieve a great deal by celebrating fashion and art of Africa all over the world. This will be done through the Promotion of our culture and style in a great deal of novel trends in fashion and art of new age of generation. In promoting African fashion and art designers all over the world, the event will serve as a model for the possible upcoming ones on the continent and beyond. This will reverberate the uniqueness of Africa as once preached in Senghorean Negritude. The crux of our tenet is built on value of the Black art and that it should be valued, respected and patronized like the most international designers. Being preoccupied with these, the organizers intend to sponsor the production of some locally made arts. This will enable the production in mass for a larger distribution across the continent, for the world at large to have a feel of our fashion and style in their wardrobes. READ MORE HERE
