From Marilyn Monroe to Kim Kardashian, the ideal body type for women has changed drastically throughout the centuries. Subscribe: https://goo.gl/Hnoaw3 This video is a reupload with a few minor adjustments. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Description: Trying to look a certain way, in order to conform to what society believes to be beautiful, is nothing new for the women of the world. Unfortunately for us females, there’s always been an epitome of beauty that women have attempted to mimic throughout the years. Trying to fit into this ideal has posed different types of challenges, some even life threatening, like constricting corsets in the Victorian Era or eating disorders in today’s society. These health consequences are only the beginning of the negative effects that trying to fit in causes on a woman’s body and mind. It’s shocking to see what use to be considered beautiful, but it’s even more shocking when you read about the unattainable goals women put in place for ourselves today. Body image issues have been an ongoing struggle for women over the years, and they’ve only become more and more prominent in recent times. If only it were still as simple as it was during the Italian Renaissance, when being skinny meant you were poor and being curvy meant you had enough money to properly nourish your body. Everyone’s opinion on what is beautiful differs from person to person; the ideals featured in this video are a broad look at what both men and women considered to be attractive in that day and age. From the androgynous look to the era of aerobics and skin-tight spandex, the standard of beauty is constantly evolving. But there is one thing remains the same, women will go to great lengths to look a certain way, the way they believe they’re suppose to. Every woman is beautiful, no matter your shape, and that’s something we should all keep in mind. This video in no way showcases how you’re suppose to look, it just shines a light on what the people believed to be the ideal woman throughout history. Hopefully in the decades to come, we’ll see that there is no specific ideal when it comes to how women should look. Inner beauty should be the only thing people focus on when thinking about the ideal woman. Until then, here’s a look at the crazy beliefs people possessed concerning what the perfect woman should look like in each time period. At least we don’t feel the need to wear airway-blocking corsets anymore. Let’s hope that’s an ideal that stays buried in the past. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheTalko Twitter: https://twitter.com/thetalko Instagram: https://instagram.com/the_talko ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Featuring: Full-Figured Tiny Waists The Androgynous Look The Influence of Hollywood Dangerously Thin An Aerobic Body Skinny is In Again Embracing Curves ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.thetalko.com/ TheTalko is everything you ever wanted to know about fashion, celebrity lifestyle, fitness, health, relationships and the most interesting random occurrences in 5 minutes or less. In this show we take a look at a stupid picture I found that subtly promotes the idea that women are more attractive than men. I do my best social justice warrior impersonation and take to complaining about it. If you are a woman who has negative body image, fear not, for the ugliest you could possibly be is a mere "okay"! It's not unusual to hear of men using steroids to 'pump up' their physique under pressure to look ‘good’. Meanwhile, the number of men in England receiving treatment for eating disorders is reported to be on the rise. learning to hate myself (not clickbait) DISCLAIMERS - I'm not an authority on body image and I'm not trying to give absolute rules for what's ok and what's not ok when talking about your body. I'm sure for some people hearing people talk about specific body image issues surrounding specific body parts is helpful and healing and reassuring, but it has only ever been damaging to me personally and I mentioned it in the video because I was going to ask that we all try and avoid critiquing specific body parts in the comments (I just forgot to say that part lol whoops) - when I say that people have no reason to be assessing my body because nobody sees it, that's absolutely not me saying that if you DO live a life where people see your body (if you're in a relationship or you're an athlete or if you do anything physical like that) that it's ok for people to judge you either. - don't be taking / sending nudes if ur under 18 lol that's ILLEGAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! x sorry this one's a bit long and a bit ramble-y! patreon: https://www.patreon.com/notjustblonde twitter - zannah_perrins instagram - zannah_perrins tumblr - aeaesthetic

Read full transcript here: http://psychologyofeating.com/men-food-and-body-image-video-emily-rosen/ The topic of body image and its connection to eating disorders is getting some much-deserved air time in the media these days. But if you’re paying attention to these conversations, you may have noticed that something is missing: the men. Both body image challenges and eating disorders are typically portrayed as women’s issues. Not only does this prevent us from better understanding how men relate to body image and how this impacts male health, but the silence around men’s experiences can make it harder for men who struggle with disordered eating to get help. In this important new video from #IPEtv, Emily Rosen, Director of the Institute for the Psychology of Eating, illuminates some of the biggest myths about eating disorders in men and shares some startling statistics that have been hidden for too long. Want a sneak peek? Read part of the transcript below: Hi, I’m Emily Rosen, Director of the Institute for the Psychology of Eating. Today we’re going to talk about Men, Food and Body Image. When most people talk about eating issues or eating disorders, they think of women. It’s not without reason. 85-90% of people diagnosed with eating disorders are female, yet might those statistics be skewed by other factors? 40% of binge eaters are men, but binge eating is only one form of disordered eating. Is it possible that men silently struggle with body image and food because it’s perceived as a woman’s issue? Let’s look at some myths around men and food: Myth #1: Eating disorders are a women’s disorder Fact: Although women suffer disproportionately, 10-15% are men and that number is probably skewed by the stigma for men to get help. One in every three women and one in any four men are on a diet. Yet, food issues tend to be seen as a woman’s issue and women and gay men suffer disproportionately from, or are more frequently diagnosed with, eating disorders compared to heterosexual men. Each gender can translate their social fears and relationship problems into their relationships with food and body. Myth #2: Men can’t get eating disorders because they’re supposed to be bigger Fact: This gender expectation may explain why there’s a higher prevalence of men in the binge eating statistics. However, many men with eating disorders go unrecognized because their symptoms are written off as going the extra mile for athletics. For example, many men with bulimia learned it first in sports that require weigh-ins, such as wrestling, boxing, gymnastics, and horse racing. Running is the most addictive exercise for people with a predisposition to addiction, and track runners and triathletes often meet the criteria for anorexia, yet men and many athletic women get praised for this discipline even when it’s at the expense of their health. Myth #3: Men don’t have sexual or emotional trauma Fact: Many men develop eating disorders due to emotional or sexual abuse from an athletic coach, a trusted family member, friend, schoolteacher, or religious figure. Because of the stigma for men to come to terms with being sexually abused, and because it’s common for men to question what that means about their sexual orientation, many men don’t get the support they need. Men also are disproportionately shamed out of their emotions compared to women. They can be ridiculed, called names like “girl” and “gay,” as if those were insults, as a means to confirm male privilege and alpha male status. For men who don’t fit into an alpha male stereotype, they can feel less than adequate. Yet that very feeling is also what may simultaneously trigger an eating challenge, and keep men from seeking help. It’s time for men to embrace that they have emotions, too, and that’s part of the wholeness of being a man. It’s time to stop stigmatizing men for having feelings that are difficult or for needing help of any kind. If you’re a man and you recognize some signs of a challenging relationship with food and body, it’s time to be courageous enough to get support and finally break free.

The purpose of this video is to help people realize that you don't need to be thin, tall, buff or built to be attractive. We all need to realize that beauty comes in many forms :) The media has a huge influence on men and women around the world. Unfortunately, the impact is more negative than positive. Individuals see these thin models in magazines and will go to any extent just to look like them. Many teens turn to dieting as a solution to poor body image and some even consider getting surgeries in order to look beautiful. Please leave any questions, comments or concerns below :) Thanks for watching! *I do not own all of the clips used in this video. Not all the clips in this video are mine. Hollywood body ideals can wreak havoc on the self-image of normal human beings and result in negative outcomes. This is more true than ever for men who are now constantly bombarded with imagery of improbable six-packs, bulging biceps and real life "superhero" bodies. The pressure is there but it's your self esteem and how you feel about your own that counts. This is my take on it, with my personal experiences of coming to terms with my own body issues. How do we handle self-perception when our bodies don't match the ideal social image? The answer is to find a way to live without shame. Greensboro native and dancer, whose viral video, "A Fat Girl Dancing," sparked a national conversation about body image. She has launched the No Body Shame Campaign -- a national effort to help men and women of every variety live and love their lives without shame. She now has her own reality show, My Big Fat Fabulous Life, (broadcast by the TLC network) that demonstrates her success in her own personal journey toward a positive self-image. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

"Glimpses," features artist and culture critic Larry Kirkwood, who creates and exhibits body casts of men and women of all forms and shapes. He aims to represent beauty in all human forms, rather than comparing bodies to images promoted by the media and society. In 2003, Kirkwood displayed 25 of his designs and lectured at the University of Wyoming's American Heritage Center. "Glimpses" includes excerpts from his visit along with a study of his art forms. It was produced and funded by Wellness in (WIN) Wyoming in collaboration with UW Television. Suzy Pelican, former coordinator of WIN Wyoming and a Cooperative Extension Service specialist with the UW Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, worked with Ali Grossman of UWTV to create a video that can be used as an inservice program for educators and health professionals. "He promotes many ideas, but a primary one is that we should judge the beauty of human bodies in terms of form and shape rather than in comparison with unreal images," says Pelican. "'Glimpses' will inspire viewers to make changes in how they perceive themselves and others," she added. DVDs of the piece are available by calling 307-760-3583. More information on Larry Kirkwood and his work can be found at: www.kirkwoodstudios.com . It aired Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at 10:30 p.m. on Wyoming Public Television.
