Cartoon Felix The Cat 03 - Felix Trifles With Time

07:51
Cartone animato classico, Felix the Cat ( Master Tom) (MioMao) Felix Trifles With Time 1925 Felix the Cat is a funny-animal cartoon character created in the silent film era. The anthropomorphic black cat with his black body, white eyes, and giant grin, coupled with the surrealism of the situations in which his cartoons place him, combine to make Felix one of the most recognized cartoon characters in film history. Felix was the first character from animation to attain a level of popularity sufficient to draw movie audiences. Felix's origins remain disputed. Australian cartoonist/film entrepreneur Pat Sullivan, owner of the Felix character, claimed during his lifetime to be its creator. American animator Otto Messmer, Sullivan's lead animator, has also been credited as such.[What is certain is that Felix emerged from Sullivan's studio, and cartoons featuring the character enjoyed success and popularity in the popular culture. Aside from the animated shorts, Felix starred in a comic strip (drawn by Sullivan, Messmer and later Joe Oriolo) beginning in 1923,and his image soon adorned merchandise such as ceramics, toys and postcards. Several manufacturers made stuffed Felix toys. Jazz bands such as Paul Whiteman's played songs about him (1923's "Felix Kept On Walking" and others). By the late 1920s, with the arrival of sound cartoons, Felix's success was fading. The new Disney shorts of Mickey Mouse made the silent offerings of Sullivan and Messmer, who were then unwilling to move to sound production, seem outdated. In 1929, Sullivan decided to make the transition and began distributing Felix sound cartoons through Copley Pictures. The sound Felix shorts proved to be a failure and the operation ended in 1932. Felix saw a brief three-cartoon resurrection in 1936 by the Van Beuren Studios. Felix cartoons began airing on American TV in 1953. Joe Oriolo introduced a redesigned, "long-legged" Felix, added new characters, and gave Felix a "Magic Bag of Tricks" that could assume an infinite variety of shapes at Felix's behest. The cat has since starred in other television programs and in two feature films. As of the 2010s, Felix is featured on a variety of merchandise from clothing to toys. Joe's son Don later assumed creative control of Felix. In 2002, TV Guide ranked Felix the Cat number 28 on its "50 Greatest Cartoon Characters of All Time" list. (By Wikipedia)

"Felix the Cat Cartoon Toolbox" gambits

04:06
Here’s a rather obscure CD-ROM game from 1995 I haven’t shared here yet: “Felix the Cat’s Cartoon Toolbox,” from Big Top. Make goofy little animated shorts with the cast of the 1958-1961 “Felix the Cat” animated series. The voices are actual dialogue clips from the show (by Jack Mercer), and for some reason the game’s sound library uses a ton of familiar Hanna-Barbera sound effects (which the show didn’t use.) The first batch of cartoons are samples included with the program, and then I show a couple I whipped up. If anything about this game seems familiar, it’s because its’ engine was reused a year later for the more well-known “The Simpsons Cartoon Studio.”

Originally FELIX TURNS THE TIDE, here is an Astra TV print paired up with some lovely Winston Sharples cartoon music composed during Van Beuren's Rainbow Parade years. For those of you who have seen Fred Ladd's 1970s colorizations, this is one of the sources, hence "The Inventor" also being the title of the redrawn version of this cartoon.

Feline Follies (1919) "1st Felix the Cat cartoon"

04:19
[Published on November 9, 1919.] Music by The Louisiana Five "A Good Man is Hard to Find" (1918.) Felix the Cat was animation's first superstar, far eclipsing Farmer Alfalfa, Bobby Bumps, Col. Heeza Liar and other ongoing cartoon characters of earlier years. From the moment Felix first appeared, in Feline Follies (November 9, 1919), he was a hit — even tho he hadn't yet been given his name. In that film and his second, Musical Mews, he was called "Master Tom". It was only in the third, Adventures of Felix (1919) that he received his permanent name — and his long, long career was off. According to the credits, Pat Sullivan, owner of the studio, was the guiding genius behind Felix — but in reality, the cartoons were the work of a young animator named Otto Messmer, who produced the entire four-minute debut all by himself, working at home on a freelance basis. Felix's success was a direct result of Messmer's great ability to create sight gags, and to express a character's personality through his own unique way of moving. Dozens of silent Felix cartoons were made, with increasing sophistication as the 1920s wore on. When the talkies came in, Felix was quickly eclipsed by Disney's Mickey Mouse, who had made an early and successful transition to sound. The last silent Felix cartoon was the appropriately-titled The Last Life (1928). The Sullivan Studio, which never did embrace the new technology, went into decline. When Sullivan died, in 1933, it closed its doors. Messmer left animation to concentrate on comic strips about Felix, which he had started in 1923 (and which lasted until 1966). Felix made a brief return to animation in 1936, when the Van Beuren Studio (Tom & Jerry (no, not that Tom & Jerry)) bought rights to the character. But the charm of the Messmer years was not recaptured, and the series ended after only three cartoons. In 1960, Felix was revived once more, this time on TV, by producer Joe Oriolo. Oriolo, whose credits include Casper the Friendly Ghost and The Mighty Hercules, had worked as Messmer's assistant during the 1950s, and had taken over the Felix newspaper strip from him in 1954. It was this series that introduced Felix's now-famous "bag of tricks" — as well as the dastardly Professor, who coveted it. Voice actor Jack Mercer, whose best-known role was Popeye the Sailor, provided most of the voices in this series. Meanwhile, Messmer's comics — first in the form of a newspaper strip distributed by King Features Syndicate and later, in 1943, as a regularly-published comic book — displayed his visual imagination and solid design sense to great effect, which is why the Messmer-drawn issues are highly prized by modern collectors. The comic book, which was published first by Dell Comics, then Toby Press, and finally Harvey Comics, ended in 1961. Dell started a new series a year later, but it lasted only 12 issues. Gladstone Comics published a thick album in 1991, reprinting Messmer's comic book art; and Fantagraphics did another album in '96, this one reprinting his newspaper comics from the 1920s. From 1991-93, Harvey Comics reprinted some of Messmer's stories in comic book form, but with very poor printing. Later in the '90s, the Oriolo family put out new, non-reprinted ones, with better production values. In recent years, Felix has turned up occasionally in a new cartoon or comic strip — sometimes, unexpectedly enough, as a co-star with Betty Boop. The most recent was a Saturday morning animated series, which ran from 1995-97. Unlike his contemporaries, animation's first break-out star has a lot of life still in him.

Felix The Cat - This cartoon is no ordinary cat, he was the mascot of Charles Lindbergh's flight and was the first image broad-casted by the television network in 1928. Felix the Cat is a funny-animal cartoon character created in the silent film era. He encounters scary apparitions- weird monsters and other vivid figments of his imagination- on his way home. [SPECIAL HALLOWEEN] Mickey E.Vil - Felix The Ghostbreaker (1923) (Spooky Cartoon, Animation)

06:39
In association with Mickey E.Vil, here is a special video for this spooky season. He composed the whole music to fit with the silent animation "Felix The Ghost Breaker" originally directed by Pat Sullivan in 1923. Not exactly Dungeon Synth but the perfect sound and visual I was seeking to share this October. Mickey E.Vil is the frontman of italian shock-rockers The Mugshots, the one and only european band ever produced by Dick Wagner, Alice Cooper's right hand in the 70's. He is also the composer of many soundtracks for canadian director/producer Vince D'Amato's Thriller/Erotic movies. His main activity in the DS area is known as Machina Coeli. Link: https://mickeyevil.bandcamp.com/ Please support the artists, buy their music. Thanks to Mickey E.Vil for the video and approval. This video is for promotional use only.

Felix the Cat Cartoon about a visit to Russia, 1920's - Film 17920

02:28
Felix the Cat cartoon. Man stands in middle of room, oversized hand to mouth, looks frustrated, deep in thought, looking at checkered board resting against table lamp on table, pencil in other hand, framed picture hangs from nail top left, vase of flowers on round table bottom left, all furniture oversized compared to man, Felix strides in from left, determined, stops behind man and taps him, man spins round, crouches slightly to meet Felix's gaze, both have downturned mouths, angular eyes as though annoyed, Felix points into his open mouth, the stretches out arms gesturing a question, speech caption over Felix reads "HOW ABOUT MY MILK?" Felix steps back in fear as man makes emphatic gesture of 'no' with right arm, man's mouth opens to speak, he turns to look at checkered board, holds hand out to it, still facing board, turns head back to felix, shaking hand at board, caption says "YOU DON'T EAT TILL I SOLVE THIS PUZZLE." Twists head back round, determined face, hunches over, looks at puzzle, takes it in hand, holds it up to face. Angry man's face to left of screen, hair swept back, eyes angled up sharply, mouth turned down, he holds puzzle up with all but one word clearly filled in, clue reads "FOUND CHIEFLY IN RUSSIA." Felix and man face each other, Felix smiling pointing a thumb towards himself, man hunched over, mouth downturned still but eyes now open and pleading for help with his puzzle, caption above Felix as he holds arms outstretched from his sides "LET ME TRY IT." In a field, fence and rooftops to right over hill, leaves of tree top left, few stones in foreground, horse with eyes closed, harness around neck, right forefoot crossed over right hoof, showing his horseshoe, Felix enters from right, thinking, one hand to mouth, one behind back as he concentrates, looking st ground, stops, absent mindedly looks back where he came from, scratches head with right hand, then holds chin with left as he looks up thinking, looks dejectedly at us, sits on rock behind horse, he pulls on his whiskers on left of face with left hand then rests chin in hands, elbow on knees, looks to sky representing deep thought, stops, sits up with finger to mouth, rolls eyes. Angry face. 'I'm in Russia. Now to solve that X-word puzzle.' 'Plot for the Revolution' Anti communist propaganda - 'Did you get the 7-letter word found chiefly in Russia?' - 'All I found in Russia was trouble' - 'Trouble, that's it!' Felix happy and dances and laughs showing his teeth.

Felix the Cat cartoon, untitled 16mm film footage.

01:48
This was discovered from aged 16mm film reel, it look like it might be missing lot of footage from the beginning. This does have "the end" attached to it. I'm still having problems trying to discover the actual name of this Felix the Cat cartoon short. The small footage beginning of the film shows a group of mice sitting on the bread singing "com in thru the rye" could have been sliced in or it's actually part of the felix cartoon. I still need help in identifying this Felix the Cartoon 16mm footage.
