Trump in Dubai & China in Africa (VICE on HBO: Season 4, Episode 10)

29:31
The United Arab Emirates, and Dubai in particular, are often described as paradise in the Middle East. But the 5 million migrant workers who live there, making up more than half the population, have an entirely different experience. They live in appalling conditions, and regularly end up with nothing, even after years of hard work -- and now, many of them are employed on a project bearing the name of Trump. China is financing more infrastructure projects and selling more goods to Africa than any other trade partner in the world, with a large share of investments linked to the extraction of resources. VICE heads to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya and South Africa to meet the characters behind the business deals and explore what this increasingly prominent China-Africa relationship could mean for the future of global politics. 12 Most Fascinating Man-Made Islands

08:09
From Tokyo's Disneyland an incredible tourist attraction to the man-made islands w/ beautiful beaches & resorts perfect to visit Subscribe to American Eye http://goo.gl/GBphkv 6. Ile Aux Cygnes This smalls artificial island is located on the River Seine in Paris and was created in 1827 in order to protect the port of Grenelle. Ile aux cygnes translates to the Island of Swans. It’s uninhabited for the most part except for this replica of Lady Liberty that stands about 70 feet tall, facing the direction of her much larger sister in New York City. It was originally facing the direction of the Eiffel Tower but ... 5. Nanhai Pearl Island This artificial island located off the coast of Holiday beach in China is currently under construction and will be an enormous tourist attraction with hotels, shipyard, cruiseships and a theme park. It currently has one bridge that connects it to the mainland of Hainan China. China has become notorious lately with their construction of artificial islands. They caused some controversy when they began constructing many islands and then militarizing them and turning them into airbase fortresses of the China Sea, which we’ll get into more later. But this one here is supposed to be for touristic purposes. Construction began in April 2016 and consists of a round, crescent shaped body, and somewhat seems like a response to Dubai’s artificial islands. 4. Islands of Uros The Uros people of Peru live very simple lives on floating artificial islands. These islands are actually made of reeds that grow on the edges of Lake Titicaca. These reeds are harvested, bundled tightly and small settlements are built on top of them. The Uros are very mysterious people and legend has it that they have black blood and have seemingly magical tolerance to cold weather. The purpose of the island settlements were originally for defensive purposes and if they came into threats from invading tribes they could simply move their homes on this islands. Each island houses anywhere from 2-10 families depending on the size. Local residents enjoy a variety of different resources that Lake titicaca provides which include, a large variety of fish, birds such as flamingos and even graze cattle on their islands. Simply fascinating. 3. Palm Jumeirah How would you feel about living on an extremely large man made island in the Persian Gulf? Sounds like it could be intriguing. These also belong to the flamboyant United Arab Emirates. But instead of taking the shape of the world, these cluster of islands are shaped like a palm tree and are much utilized than it’s neighboring chain of islands. The palm tree consists of a trunk that acts like a bridge to the mainland with 16 fronds and a surrounding crescent shaped island. This is the home the to luxurious Palm Atlantis Hotel which began construction in 2001. This adds an extra 40 miles to Dubai’s coastline and was built with over 7 million tons of stone. They kept the nearby ecosystem in mind and used natural rock to encourage natural reef creation by the sea life. 2. Thilafushi Maldives The Maldives are known for being an excellent resort country in the middle of the indian ocean. Its beautiful beaches are flocked to by millions of tourists each year. One of its least popular islands, however, isn’t really natural. The thilafushi island is built on top of reclaimed coral reefs in 1992 not to house a 5 star resort, but to house the garbage left by tourists and locals alike. It was built as a landfill and given the nickname garbage island. In 2005, it’s estimated that 31000 truckloads of garbage were transported to this island each year and it continues to grow each year at the rate of 365,000 square feet a day! The BBC even described the waste on the island was apocalyptic. 1.Chinese War Islands In recent years, it’s been China’s goal to beef up their military presence especially in the South China Sea where these islands are located. Their building islands here on international waters at an exponential rate at there seems to be no end in sight. The US navy and rival Asian counterparts dispute these practices as being aggressive and unnecessary. This is part of their plan to build dominance as a commercial and military power and no one wants to tell them to stop. This guarantees that tension in this area will continue to rise especially as Vietnam, Australia and the Philippines don’t appreciate this one bit. Just because it’s called the China Sea, doesn’t make it theirs! It’s a crucial trade route with more than 5 trillion dollars worth of international shipping each year, in which China has no historical ties with. If something isn’t done about these islands soon, it could very well lead to world war 3.

10 Incredible Structures Built Underwater

06:05
Top 10 existing or conceptions of undersea homes, hotels, restaurants, resorts and science labs deep in the ocean or sea. Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg Subsix footage from: Dreaming of Maldives Description: When it comes to the oceanic experience, there is an entire world that we have yet to discover in the depths of the sea. Underwater civilizations are the subject of adventure and science fiction entertainment, and living a life among the fishes seems to be a life of fantasy and nothing more. But today, thanks to the innovations of engineering and a lot of money, architects and oceanic experts have found a way to build structures underwater. With the help of designers and engineering experts, we are one step closer to creating civilizations underwater. With the beauty of the ocean and marine life that much closer to being called home by the human race, there has been a lot of drafting, designing, and execution in the world of underwater living. Of course, it is more complicated than just building an underwater structure. As you go underwater, the pressure increases with each inch that you go below the depths of the surface. So these structures must be able to withstand the weight of the water around it. Also, humans cannot live underwater on their own, so these structures must find a way to pump oxygen into the space. Not to mention that these structures must be furnished and bring in food and necessities to live comfortably in a person’s time in the structure. Engineering wise, creating something that is habitable underwater can be a nightmare to execute, let alone design. Compromises to art and style have to be compromised for the sake of safety and human survival. Also, should there be any damages or leaks to the structures, how does one repair them without completely destroying the structure? While it is cool to think of underwater structures, the science and technology behind them is very complicated. Not to mention that underwater structures can be very vulnerable to attacks. Whether it is a sea creature that doesn’t like the hotel that is in its space, or someone on the other side of the glass is antagonizing a killer whale, we all know that these animals have the ability to break multiple layers of glass and cause some real damage. Not only that, but terrorists can also target these underwater structures. All it takes is a bomb or a bullet to completely submerge the structure in water. So, besides the building of the structure, safety precautions must be taken in order to ensure the survival of the structure. Underwater structures are coming in the form of restaurants, museums, and hotels. They are all awesome to think about. But again, the execution behind the building of the structures were complex and potentially the product of any engineer or architect’s nightmares. Something else that has to be taken into consideration is the longevity of the structure, and how long the building will last while dealing with wear and tear from interior and exterior use. But the end results are well worth the effort, and it makes the human race one step closer to completely taking over the earth. Dubai - Modern-day Orient by the sea

43:43
Dubai is a city of many faces: towering office and hotel skyscrapers and oriental bustle in Bur Dubai, the old town quarter. Mubashir Malik came here from Pakistan when he was just 18. He had heard a lot about Dubai: A place, where a lot of money can be earned, without being especially qualified. Now he has been driving a water taxi on the Dubai Creek for the past four years and feels like a rich man. Brothers Arif and Faisal Matraushi are both passionate fishermen. Arif fishes from the evening to midnight, while Faisal drives to the Dubai fish market every morning at 3 a.m. to sell the catch. Jeremy Sabaneer has worked his way up. He is manager of the "Leba-non" island in the middle of the "World", as Dubai's ambitious offshore island project is known. Jeremy began here more than 15 years ago, as a Pakistani migrant worker. Now he has his hands full. A bank has rented his party island for a company event. Jeremy takes to the air with water plane pilot Andrew Kennedy to check his world from above. And in the desert location of Lahbab, "mareTV" encounters racing camel coaches. Since the protests against the use of children as jockeys became more violent, they now replaced them with robots. High tech in a traditional sport. Typical Dubai….

How is CHINA challenging the AMERICAN EMPIRE? - VisualPolitik EN

15:01
America is the 20th and 21st century’s empire. There is no region on the planet where America has not the strongest military presence, with bases on the most remote islands of the Pacific. This hegemony has created a landscape where no other country dares to attack American army. But this ‘Pax Americana’ could stop one day... at least on the Indian Ocean. Since years, China has been building alliances with neighbouring countries to create a string of military bases. From South China Sea to Africa and Middle East, China is expanding their presence. Why? They need to guarantee their trade routes. They cannot take the risk of other countries like India blocking their supply of raw materials. This is why they need to have the military supremacy on this region. This is the so-called ‘String of Pearls’ project, A.K.A. the Maritime Belt and Road Initiative. And, as you can imagine, this is one of Washington’s main concerns. Why? Why is this a threat to America? In this video, we will answer to those questions. *Written by Sophia Sestini Other videos from VisualPolitik: Can Chinese companies conquer the World? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Os0M-qpTw0 What’s the real power of China? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bihdCkIfA2Q China’s digital revolution https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZP9dZAx418 Support us on Patreon! www.patreon.com/visualpolitik And don't forget to visit our friend’s podcast, Reconsider Media: http://www.reconsidermedia.com/ Interesting links: https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/06/us-military-bases-around-the-world-119321 http://www.bjreview.com.cn/quotes/txt/2009-04/23/content_192517.htm http://www.divergingmarkets.com/2013/04/16/map-of-the-day-global-shipping-routes/ http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/2017-05/14/c_136282982.htm https://qph.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-f3c3da82d7ac429f1178ef75b4c5c059

South China Sea disputes: China is building a massive airstrip on Fiery Cross Reef - TomoNews

01:44
Recent satellite images show China is building its first airstrip in the disputed Spratly Islands and may be working on a second airstrip, according to an analysis by defence journal IHS Janes. Airbus Defence and Space satellite imagery taken on March 23 shows that China has created enough space on Fiery Cross Reef for a runway that is about 3,000 meters long. China began to turn Fiery Cross Reef into an island in late 2014. Fiery Cross Reef lies to the west of the disputed Spratly Islands, an archipelago that is claimed in whole or in part by China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and Brunei. Fiery Cross Reef is called Yongshu by China, Kagitingan by the Philippines and Da Chu Thap by Vietnam. Speaking at a press conference in Beijing on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hong Lei defended China's construction in the South China Sea as "reasonable" and "legal." "The relevant construction is conducted within China's sovereign territory, it is reasonable, understandable and legal, and it is not targeting or affecting any other country," Lei said. Other Airbus Defence and Space satellite imagery from March showed reclamation work on Subi Reef, which could also create space for another 3,000-metre runway. Subi Reef is only 25 km away from Thitu Island, which is known as Pag-asa in Tagolog and which China calls Zhongye Island. Thitu Island is held by the Philippines and is home to a civilian population. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. South China Seas territorial disputes: China building massive island at Fiery Cross Reef

01:17
Satellite images obtained by a defense publication show that China is building an island large enough to house an airstrip in the disputed Spratly Islands. As shown by satellite images published by IHS Jane’s, China is reclaiming land at Fiery Cross Reef. The reclaimed island will be at least 3,000 metres long and between 200 and 300 metres wide. A People’s Liberation Army garrison has been built on the reef’s southwestern edge. It is not connected to the island yet, but analysts believe China will likely join it up with the island later. The island will be able to accommodate an apron and a runway. Once completed, the construction will give more leverage to China, as it is the only claimant that doesn’t have access to an airfield. China has been building islands, including at Johnson South Reef, Cuateron Reef, and Gaven Reefs, in the disputed area. But the construction at Fiery Cross Reef is by far the largest. The United States has urges China not to continue with the reclamation projects in the South China Sea. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. It spans over 60 countries and will cost over a trillion dollars. The plan is to make it easier for the world to trade with China, by funding roads, railways, pipelines, and other infrastructure projects in Asia and Africa. China is loaning trillions of dollars to any country that's willing to participate and it's been a big hit with the less democratic countries in the region. This makes the BRI a risky plan as well. But China is pushing forward because its goals are not strictly economic, they're also geopolitical. To truly understand the international conflicts and trends shaping our world you need a big-picture view. SOUTH CHINA SEA hot new geopolitical game of USA, CHINA?

SOUTH CHINA SEA hot new geopolitical game of USA, CHINA? US patrols deployed South China Sea group amid Chinese ro message "almost finished" works "may contain missile". Is it a new geopolitical game being formed? Sputnik led review of a number of political analysts said, the US is playing a geopolitical game in the region, to increase pressure on China and the ASEAN countries. February 18, the US Navy ships began the campaign by the US Navy called "normal operations" in the South China Sea. This group is led by ships Carl Vinson aircraft carrier USS Nimitz class. In addition, the group also ship destroyer USS guided missile Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108) Arleigh Burke class ... China's Playing Monopoly in the South China Sea, Building Helipads and New Islands

02:41
http://www.undergroundworldnews.com China’s playing Monopoly in the South China Sea—only, instead of building hotels on Pacific Avenue, it’s constructing helipads and, in some cases, whole new islands. In less than a year, shallow reefs in the Spratly Islands have sprouted white-sand outcrops, sporting what look to be Chinese military facilities, according to satellite imagery published this week by IHS Jane’s Defence Weekly, a consulting company. The Spratlys are more strategic than they are substantial; under international law, the archipelago could have exclusive claim to the bounteous fishing grounds in the surrounding seas, and to the potentially oil-rich seabed—which may explain why China and five other Asian countries claim the islands. The new reclaimed islands are only the latest Spratly rockpiles and reefs that, since February 2014, China has willed into existence by heaping sand atop of them–to the alarm among China’s neighbors. http://qz.com/347684/chinas-island-building-spree-is-about-more-than-just-military-might/

Nguyen Phu Trong is on a visit to Indonesia – the first by a Vietnamese Communist Party chief since Ho Chi Minh’s visit in 1959. In a speech televised at his home country on Wednesday, he said Asean needed to be unified in resolving territorial disputes. “Do not let Asean become a playing card for the competition among major countries,” Trong said, without identifying which he meant. Vietnam has emerged as the most vocal opponent of China’s claims in the South China Sea, where more than US$3 trillion in cargo pass every year. To China’s annoyance, Vietnam held out an Asean meeting this month for language in a communique that noted concern, about island-building and criticised militarisation in the South China Sea. “The discussions were really hard. Vietnam is on its own to have stronger language on the South China Sea. Cambodia and the Philippines are not keen to reflect that,” said one Vietnamese diplomat at the Regional Forum in Manila. Chinese pressure forced Vietnam to stop drilling for, oil last month in a Vietnamese oil block that China claims. Beijing has also been angered by Vietnam’s growing defence links to the United States, Japan and India. Some Southeast Asian countries are wary about, the possible repercussions of defying Beijing by taking a stronger stand on the South China Sea. China claims most of the South China Sea, while Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Brunei claim parts of the sea, which commands strategic sea lanes and has rich fishing grounds along with oil and gas deposits. During the visit to Jakarta, the Vietnamese leader sealed a deal with Indonesia to boost trade from US$5.6 billion to US$8 billion by 2018, with aspirations to reach US$10 billion in the “near future,” ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why China must bare its teeth in the South China Sea

02:37
Why China must bare its teeth in the South China Sea SUBSCRIBE my channel here: https://goo.gl/F8gn4Z G+ here: https://goo.gl/UzMJVe ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I.M. Wright is usually right, but this time, in his January 9 letter, “Others will not sit (by) as China bends the rules”, he is not right to have sided with the “don’t do as I do” United States and Vietnam: the latter claims a big chunk of China’s area bounded by the nine-dash line. Hence the US Pacific Fleet spokeswoman’s words: “the (freedom of navigation) operation was not about any one country”. Are these countries trying to make one right with more wrongs? As for the US, just because it has not ratified the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, which gives states jurisdiction over 12 nautical miles of sea extending from their coast, it is deliberately violating Chinese territorial waters, trying to provoke an isolated firefight which would then justify a more comprehensive war. This strategy is much like the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin cruises to draw the claimed Vietnamese gunboat attacks. The area covered by the nine-dash line, within which lay the hundreds of islands and features returned by the defeated imperial Japan after the second world war, was demarcated by the Kuomintang government of China. Yongxing in the Paracels and Taiping in the Spratlys were named after the two Republic of China navy ships that went to reclaim them. If anybody is making an excessive claim here, it would be Japan, which has built an observatory on the Okinotori rocks and claimed an enormous exclusive economic zone (EEZ) around it. It even detained a Taiwanese fishing boat operating in the claimed EEZ. Tensions remain in South China Sea with no resolution on code of conduct As a broken line, the nine-dash line cannot be treated as a territorial boundary. The exact coordinates of the encompassed features, and their territorial seas, can only be ascertained with reference to much larger-scale maps such as the 1947 Rand McNally maps, which indicated at least the Paracels t... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We want to keep our islands in South China Sea

We want to keep our islands in South China Sea, says Dr Mahathir SUBSCRIBE my channel here: https://goo.gl/F8gn4Z G+ here: https://goo.gl/UzMJVe ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pulau Layang-Layang is one of the islands in the South China Sea occupied by Malaysia. There is an airstrip, a navy station and a resort on the island, which was developed from a reef. – pic from www.layanglayang.com, June 20, 2018. PRIME Mininster Dr Mahathir Mohamad has said that Malaysia wants to keep occupying at least five islands in the disputed South China Sea, including the Spratly Islands. In an interview with Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post (SCMP), Dr Mahathir said that Malaysia has been occupying these islands for many years, and hopes to continue doing so. “There are certain rocks which we have developed into islands. And we hope that we will stay on those islands, because it is a part of our keeping the sea safe from pirates and others,” he was quoted as saying. “So we want to retain, of course, about four or five islands that we have occupied. The rest – whoever thinks it is theirs, they can occupy,” said Dr Mahathir. “But it is something if China claims the South China Sea is theirs, but those islands have always been regarded as ours for a long time. So we want to retain them.” Beijing is laying claim to the entire South China Sea, putting it in conflict with Malaysia, Taiwan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Brunei – all of whom claim to have a stake in the resource-rich and strategic sea lane. China’s heavy military presence at the South China Sea, along with the addition of US warships, has heightened tensions in the disputed area. Dr Mahathir said he believes keeping warships out of the disputed waterway is key to maintaining peace. He said that instead of warships, the waters should be “patrolled by small boats” that would be “equipped to deal with pirates, not to fight another war”. “I think there should not be too many warships. Warships create tension,” said the 92-year-old. “Someday, somebody might make some mistakes and ther... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
