Floated DIV order in CSS (document flow)

Javascript Selectors - Javascript Tutorial for Beginners With Examples

11:19
In this Javascript tutorial for beginners, we're going to be using Javascript selectors to access the DOM (document object model) and interact with our webpage in realtime. Selectors allow us to search for elements in the web page, get those html elements, and do things with them. Selector methods are: document.getElementsByTagName('div') document.getElementsByClassName('done') document.getElementById('my-id') document.querySelector('#my-id') document.querySelectorAll('.classname') Once you have selected an html element, you can modify it: document.getElementById('my-id').innerHTML = "new html" document.getElementById('my-id').className = "newclass otherclass" Hopefully you liked this javascript tutorial for beginners with examples (hopefully you like every web development tutorial I crank out) As you can see, selectors are powerful in Javascript and even if you're a javascript beginner, you can make any and every change to your web page. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Learning Web Development? JavaScript event capturing

08:36
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/01/javascript-event-capturing.html Event capturing is the opposite of event bubbling. We discussed event bubbling in detail in Part 40 of JavaScript tutorial. With event bubbling the event bubbles up from the inner most element to the outer most element in the DOM hierarchy. With event capuring the opposite happens, the event gets captured from the outer most element to innermost element. In real world event capturing is rarely used. Let us understand this with an example. In the following example we have 3 [div] nested elements. Notice that we are using addEventListener() method to assign event handler to each [div] element. To enable event capturing we have set the third parameter (phase) of addEventListener() method to true. Now when you click on the innermost [div] (DIV3), notice that the events are fired from the outermost [div] to innermost [div] (DIV1 =] DIV 2 =] DIV 3). [html] [head] [style type="text/css"] .divStyle { display: table-cell; border: 5px solid black; padding: 20px; text-align: center; } [/style] [/head] [body] [div id="DIV1" class="divStyle"] DIV 1 [div id="DIV2" class="divStyle"] DIV 2 [div id="DIV3" class="divStyle"] DIV 3 [/div] [/div] [/div] [script type="text/javascript"] var divElements = document.getElementsByTagName('div'); for (var i = 0; i [ divElements.length; i++) { divElements[i].addEventListener("click", clickHandler, true); } function clickHandler() { alert(this.getAttribute("id") + " click event handled"); } [/script] [/body] [/html] Please note : IE8 and earlier versions does not support addEventListener() method. This implies that event capturing is not supported in IE8 and earlier versions, and hence the above code will not work in IE 8 and earlier versions. Stopping event capturing : Stopping event capturing is very similar to stopping event bubbling. With the example below, when you click on any [div] element notice that DIV 1 element handles the click event and it does not get captured down. [html] [head] [style type="text/css"] .divStyle { display: table-cell; border: 5px solid black; padding: 20px; text-align: center; } [/style] [/head] [body] [div id="DIV1" class="divStyle"] DIV 1 [div id="DIV2" class="divStyle"] DIV 2 [div id="DIV3" class="divStyle"] DIV 3 [/div] [/div] [/div] [script type="text/javascript"] var divElements = document.getElementsByTagName('div'); for (var i = 0; i [ divElements.length; i++) { divElements[i].addEventListener("click", clickHandler, true); } function clickHandler(event) { event.stopPropagation(); alert(this.getAttribute("id") + " click event handled"); } [/script] [/body] [/html] Using addEventListener() method with last argument set to true is the only way to enable event capturing. If the thid parameter (phase) is set to true event capturing is enabled and if it is set to false event bubbling is enabled. If you want both even bubbling and capturing to be enabled, then assign handlers 2 times, once with the phase parameter set to false and once with the phase parameter set to true as shown below. [html] [head] [style type="text/css"] .divStyle { display: table-cell; border: 5px solid black; padding: 20px; text-align: center; } [/style] [/head] [body] [div id="DIV1" class="divStyle"] DIV 1 [div id="DIV2" class="divStyle"] DIV 2 [div id="DIV3" class="divStyle"] DIV 3 [/div] [/div] [/div] [script type="text/javascript"] var divElements = document.getElementsByTagName('div'); for (var i = 0; i [ divElements.length; i++) { divElements[i].addEventListener("click", clickHandler, false); divElements[i].addEventListener("click", clickHandler, true); } function clickHandler() { alert(this.getAttribute("id") + " click event handled"); } [/script] [/body] [/html] With both event capturing and bubbling enabled, events are first captured from the outermost element to the innermost element and then bubbles up from the innermost to the outermost element.

To create a select box we simply use the html5 document to create our markup for the select box. We will create three different select boxes using the "select" element and the "option" element for creating dropdown lists. To hide the default styling from the select element applied by the browser we will use the css3 appearance property and set its value to none. And then, we will use an another useful rule to hide the default arrows applied by Internet explorer 10; from the select box dropdown. THREE DIFFERENT METHODS THAT WE WILL BE USING Each select box will be using a different method for styling the dropdown arrow inside the combobox. - The first Method will show using an Image Background technique to create custom arrow for the CSS select box. - The second method will use the CSS border property to create a triangular shape that will be used to customize your select element's dropdown arrow. - Finally, the third method will use the fontawesome glyphicon to create our custom arrow for the selectbox dropdown. All, the method will have the cross-browser support for our custom css3 select box. Each method ensures that it works properly in the Internet explorer 10 or above and other older browser. jquery floating div

13:36
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?sort=dd&view=1 Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/05/jquery-floating-div.html In this video we will discuss, how to create floating div using jQuery. We want the div element in the sidebar to be floating and always visible as we scroll down the page. Example : In this example we are using position() and scrollTop() functions. The object returned by position() function has top and left properties, which can be used to know the current top and left positions (coordinates). We are using this function to find the top position of the div element that we want to keep floating as we scroll down. To get the current vertical position of the scroll bar, we are using scrollTop() function. As we scroll and when the current vertical position of the scroll bar becomes GREATER THAN the top position of the div element, then we want the div element to start floating. To do this set position style to fixed. A fixed position element is positioned relative to the browser window. So as you scroll down it will be floating in the browser window. If the current vertical position of the scroll bar becomes LESS THAN the top position of the div element, then we don't want the div element to float, so we set position style to relative. A relative position element is positioned relative to itself. So if you set position to relative and top to 0, it will continue to stay where it is without floating. <html> <head> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { var floatingDiv = $("#divfloating"); var floatingDivPosition = floatingDiv.position(); $(window).scroll(function () { var scrollPosition = $(window).scrollTop(); if (scrollPosition >= floatingDivPosition.top) { floatingDiv.css({ 'position': 'fixed', 'top' : 3 }); } else { floatingDiv.css({ 'position': 'relative', 'top' : 0 }); } }); }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial;"> <table align="center" border="1" style="border-collapse:collapse"> <tr> <td style="width:500px"> Main Page Content </td> <td style="width:150px; vertical-align:top"> Side panel content <br /><br /> <div id="divfloating" style="background-color:silver; width:150px; height:150px"> Floating Div - Keeps floating as you scroll down the page </div> </td> </tr> </table> </body> </html>

Create Slanted or Razor-Blade Div Shapes with CSS3

05:46
(Video Uploaded in HD format) Creating slanted (or razor-blade) div container shapes is easy using CSS3. There are two elements that come together: (a) a normal div, and (b) a pseudo class for the div. Put these together in your HTML document, then add and adjust three important properties to your pseudo class: z-index, transform-origin, and transform. • The z-index property places your pseudo class rectangle behind the main div so that the main div's contents are visible. • The transform-origin property sets a reference point (i.e. top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right) for your pseudo class rectangle to refer to, or originate from. • The transform property skews your rectangle along the Y axis (using the skewY(4deg); property) to tilt or skew your rectangle. You can change the value of '4deg' to any angle you like which looks good. Build cool and unique layouts with this simple CSS code snippet. The code snippet is in my first comment below. Enjoy!
