Famous Companies That Use Slavery

*Support On PATREON*: https://www.patreon.com/SUPERLATIVES Click here to SUBSCRIBE: https://goo.gl/zF1PI8 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Although the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 officially outlawed slavery worldwide, approximately 30 million people remain slaves today, according to the Australia-based Walk Free Foundation. These include people enslaved by debt bondage, child labor, human trafficking, forced marriage, and forced labor. With many powerful companies moving their labour overseas to exploit cheaper, less strict labour laws, the very real problem of slavery is huge . While countries like India (14 million) China (3 million) and Thailand (.473 million) rank amongst the highest offenders, it is estimated that even in the US there are about 60,000 slaves! Watch as SUPERLATIVES takes a look at 5 Famous MAJOR Companies That Use Slavery. 1. COTTON Picking forced on civilians by Uzbekistan. Forever 21, H&M, Toys R Us and Urban Outfitters. CLOTHING SEWING is often done by american companies going overseas and building factories that often outsource their labour to sweatshops who use slavery. Walmart has been linked to use this labour today and several companies were caught in 2000 using sweatshops in Saipan. Calvin Klein, Target, J.C. Penny and Abercrombie & Fitch just to name a few. China to Overtake US as Largest Apparel Market by 2017

01:32
http://euromonitor.com The US will lose its position as the world's number one apparel market to China in 2017, according to Euromonitor research. Although the economic boom in China may be slowing down, Chinese consumer's appetite for apparel is not, and many companies are responding to this trend. Inditex, owner of Zara and Bershka, will soon open its 500th store in China and Gap has recently opened its first Old Navy store in Shanghai. The market for apparel is so large in China, that any player not focusing on the country is bound to fall behind in the coming years.

🇰🇭 Cambodia: Dying for fashion | 101 East

25:01
101 East - Cambodia: Dying for fashion Cambodia's largest export industry is facing its biggest crisis, with garment workers and security forces engaged in a series of ongoing clashes. One recent protest left five people dead and scores injured. The violence comes after weeks of political and labour unrest crippled Cambodia's garment industry. While the international spotlight has focused on the garment factories of Bangladesh, Cambodia's garment workers have been staging their own revolution. Hundreds of industrial strikes have left the industry in turmoil and presented Prime Minister Hun Sen with the toughest political challenge in his nearly three-decade rule. Last year 381 industrial strikes were recorded, up from 102 the previous year. Backed by a powerful workers' union, the nationwide strikes are fuelled by opposition-led, anti-government protests demanding Hun Sen's resignation. Cambodia began exporting garments in the 1990s. Low wages and an abundant workforce, powered mainly by the country's rural population, have drawn major clothing brand names like GAP, H&M, Nike and Puma to Cambodia. Today, the industry is a $5bn-a-year business with almost 550 factories, mostly owned by Taiwanese, Korean, Chinese, Hong Kong and Singaporean companies. The garment sector accounts for more than 80 percent of Cambodia's exports and is the cornerstone of the country's economy. Yet these fashion powerhouses pay their workers a pittance, and a series of tragedies threaten to shut down the industry. Early last year, the ceiling of a shoe factory collapsed, killing three workers. The workers in the company, Wing Star Shoe, were working on Asics shoes. Eyewitnesses say that the heavy weight from the second floor caused the ceiling to collapse. Mass faintings are also common. Investigations show that garment workers typically toil in poorly ventilated factories, work long overtime hours to earn extra income and suffer from malnutrition. We travel to Sihanoukville to investigate allegations that a factory producing shoes for Japanese international brand Asics has continued to hire underage workers despite repeated warnings. Back in the capital Phnom Penh, frustrated workers have begun protesting outside factories, demanding better pay and working conditions. Strikes have become common. Following Bangladesh's high-profile garment factory accidents, Cambodia's union leaders and workers are demanding a minimum wage of $160 a month - $60 higher than what the government has offered. Cambodia's most recent strike began on December 24, 2013. Protests began with relatively minor clashes with police, who used tear gas and batons. But on January 3, 2014, military police armed with assault rifles fired into a defiant crowd gathered outside the Canadia Industrial Park area. Police said the workers were hurling objects at them. At least five people died and 23 were arrested. "The situation is like a war," Ath Thorn, the president of the Coalition of Cambodian Apparel Workers' Democratic Union, says of the crackdown. He says demands for a higher minimum wage reflect Cambodia's rising cost of living. Cheam Yeap, a government spokesperson, estimates losses of $200m in the two-week nationwide strike. International clothing retailers like Adidas and H&M have stepped forward to say they oppose the violence and called on the government to find a peaceful solution, stating that the workers have a right to safe working environments. But Ken Loo from the Garment Manufacturers Association in Cambodia believes increasing the minimum wage will result in manufacturers closing down their factories and leaving Cambodia in search of cheaper options. He says the unions "are being silly" with their demands. 101 East examines the stalemate and asks, will the garment workers get what they deserve or will they continue to be fashion's victims? Fashion Factories Undercover (Documentary) - Real Stories

50:20
Check out our new website for more incredible documentaries: HD and ad-free. https://goo.gl/LwMcmY Beyond the crumbling walls of sweatshops we find out the true cost of fashion. It’s April 23rd 2013, a busy commercial building in Dhaka, Bangladesh towers over thousands of workers, many of them children. As they toil away in a cramped sweatshop the force of the eight-storey building collapses on to them, killing more than a 1,000 people and permanently disfiguring a further 2,500. It emerges that this building had been condemned and not fit for purpose, yet many workers were caged for 14-hours a day with no escape. This was not just an unfortunate circumstance but one that could easily have been prevented. Through first-hand eyewitness accounts we will investigate the cause of the collapse and reveal how major international brands have ignored the warnings by continuing to use these unsafe buildings and put profit ahead of safety. Why this Gucci knockoff is totally legal

05:38
Knockoffs are everywhere in fashion. So is the controversy they inspire. Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO Allbirds says Steve Madden copied their sneakers. Gucci says Forever 21 ripped off their green-red-green stripes. Adidas says Zara knocked off their Yeezys. In the Constitution, Congress has the power to stop copying by giving authors and inventors “the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries.” But there’s a catch. These protections must “promote the progress” of creative industries. Conventional wisdom holds that copying kills innovation and hurts industry progress. But within the fashion industry, experts like New York University law professor Christopher Sprigman say the ease of copying is actually good for creativity. From Ivanka wallpaper to Ivanka booze: Chinese companies rush to name their products after Trump’s daughter. While Ivanka Trump's fashion line is being removed from stores across the US, companies in China are flocking to cash in on the daughter of the President's name. Since Donald Trump's inauguration, Chinese companies have been lodging applications to use Ivanka's name to sell their business. Companies selling products including nutritional supplements and a wallpaper. According to Chinese media, most of the companies wishing to use Ivanka's name are under review. One of the companies sells sanitary products for women while another sold alcohol. On China's National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System, there are over six pages of companies wishing to use Ivanka's name or the Chinese translation of her name in their business. Some items from Ivanka Trump's clothing line are made in China including shoes, clothes and handbags. Under Chinese law, businesses are permitted to use foreign names. Chinese translations, as trademarks often lead to legal clashes. Last week, the Chinese government awarded Donald Trump rights to his own name after years of battling. He has been given a ten year trademark protection for construction services. The government of China awarded President Donald Trump valuable rights to his own name this week, in the form of a 10-year trademark for construction services. Ivanka and her family have been given lots of coverage in the Chinese media with videos of her daughter Arabella singing in Mandarin being praised by state media. Source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/

How to Find a Supplier on Alibaba & Find a Chinese Manufacturer

11:13
This video tutorial will teach you how to find a supplier on Alibaba & find a Chinese manufacturer. ►► Free Ebook - Make $10,000/Month Online: http://wholesaleted.com/4-step Here are our step-by-step instructions on how to find a supplier on Alibaba: Step 1: Go to Alibaba and find the search bar. Type in the name of a product that you are interested in selling. In this video I used vitamin pills as an example. Step 2: Because a lot of suppliers have duplicate listings on Alibaba for the same item (because it increases their presence in the Alibaba search engine) you will need to filter the results by clicking on “browse by suppliers.” Step 3: To filter the results down further, search by “Gold Suppliers.” Most suppliers will do this because it has become basically a prerequisite for having new buyers contact them. It doesn’t cost them much money to do this, so the results will only be filtered by a small amount. Step 4 (OPTIONAL): If the list of suppliers is still too long, then click to filter the results by “assessed supplier.” This is only necessary in very popular niches where you have a large number of suppliers that you need to filter down to a manageable amount. Step 5: Contact 10-20 suppliers at least. If you have time, then contact more. The more you contact, the better. Here is the email template referenced in our video tutorial on how to find a supplier on Alibaba: "My name is [INSERT NAME] from [INSERT BUSINESS NAME]. Our company director asked me to contact your company about working together on a lucrative, long-term venture. We are a company that sells products related to [INSERT NICHE HERE] and we do over 2 million dollars in sales each year. We’re looking to expand our product range and create a profitable partnership between your company and ours. We are planning to purchase [INSERT ITEM] to our product line. It would need to meet these specifications: * Specification (e.g size) * Specification (e.g. quantity) * Specification (e.g. colour) We have been researching different companies in China that manufacture [INSERT ITEM] and we think that your company could be a great supplier for it. We would like to get some more information and have a few questions that we would like you to please answer: * Can we please get a sample of the product as soon as possible. Can you please let us know how much you will charge for the sample, including Express shipping to [INSERT COUNTRY], zip code [INSERT ZIP CODE]? We would like to pay with PayPal. * How long will it take to receive the sample? * What types of packaging do you usually use for this product? * How long does it take to manufacture once an order has been placed? * What is the product-per-unit cost including shipping via Air Express to the United States, ZIP code 85043? * Do you accept PayPal for the full-order?" We would be very grateful if you would contact us with answers to the above questions as well as any additional policies that we may need to know. We would also like to discuss with you further about doing a sample order for the product. We are hopeful that we can start a mutually beneficial relationship. Please add me on Skype and talk to me, as this is my ideal form of communication: [INSERT ID] Alternatively you can email me back at this address: [INSERT ADDRESS] Kind regards, [NAME]” Here are some final tips to keep in mind when you are looking to find a supplier on Alibaba to manufacture your Amazon FBA private label products: Tip #1 on how to find a supplier on Alibaba: Don’t judge the supplier/manufacture by their Alibaba response rate. The Alibaba response rate only takes into account how fast they respond within Alibaba’s email system, and it doesn’t take into account how fast they reply to personal emails. This is not a good indicator of how responsive they will be to private communication, which is all you should care about. Tip #2 on how to find a supplier on Alibaba: Avoid manufacturers that try to vet your business. If a manufacturer comes back and starts asking questions about your business, clearly skeptical of the size of your company, it is best to move on. Manufacturers that do this will usually decline to work with you as they are only to work with other large companies, so you don’t want to waste your time. Tip #3 on how to find a supplier on Alibaba: It is OK to work directly with a sales rep - if they offer you a better deal. When you are looking to find a supplier on Alibaba, you’ll discover that sales reps often have inflated prices (due to commission cuts). But occasionally, a sales rep will have a better relationship with a factory and so are able to negotiate lower prices. They will also often have good english, making communication easier. Vet sales reps and treat them as equals during the process of picking and choosing the right supplier.

how to find ethical & eco-friendly clothing companies | ohgeeitsbri

10:25
so, if you guys have seen "The True Cost" documentary (or even if you've just heard about issues regarding the fast fashion industry), you're probably looking for better companies to buy your families clothing from. there are a lot of things that go into finding a great company (both in terms of ethicality and environmentalism) to purchase pieces from so i thought i would just give you some information that i've gathered so far. ****my biggest tip would be to look very critically at companies before you purchase from them. many people have realized that this is a growing area of the economy and are therefore, trying to jump on the bandwagon to make money. if a company makes it difficult for you to find out if they are GOTS certified, they probably aren't. if it's hard for you to find out where the products are made, they're probably made in china and they're definitely not going to be fair trade.***** just be very very careful who you believe and who you choose to support. companies that greenwash are some of the most annoying people to me and i will never knowingly support people who try to pull the wool over the eyes of consumers. ANYWAYS....i will make another video in the near future sharing some companies that i have found and love. in the mean time, i hope this helps. oh and here are the additional certifications i was mentioning so you can see what they entail: eco friendly fabrics: http://life.gaiam.com/article/how-are-eco-friendly-fabrics-made gots certification: http://www.global-standard.org/the-standard/general-description.html oeko tex 100 certification: https://www.oeko-tex.com/en/manufacturers/concept/oeko_tex_standard_100/oeko_tex_standard_100.xhtml bluesign certification: http://business-ethics.com/2012/11/11/what-is-the-bluesign-standard-for-textiles/ INSTAGRAM: ohgeeitsbribri TWITTER: ohgeeitsbribri - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - camera i film with: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J34YO92?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B00J34YO92&linkCode=xm2&tag=youtube018-20 our stroller: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008RR5XUA?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B008RR5XUA&linkCode=xm2&tag=youtube018-20 where i get discounted clothes, home decor, makeup, etc: http://www.hautelook.com/short/3KVqA my favorite hair straightener (i've had mine for 9 years!): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003... - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - looking to get a tattoo? my husband and i own this shop: gracetattooco.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - a little about me: well, my name is bri but you probably already figured that out from my channel name. i'm 25 years old. i'm a wife to a tattoo artist and also a crunchy mama. our household consists of myself, my husband, my sweet little boy, a crazy ass dog and two fat bunnies. i post videos about natural living, motherhood, organization, baby gear, health, cooking, days in my life, makeup, cloth diapers and lots of other stuff, as well. thanks a ton for being here. i hope you'll stick around! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - some of my most popular videos: my early pregnancy symptoms: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCIEP... my labor and delivery story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ow4OD... easy heatless voluminous curls: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6kZY... how to get rid of greasy hair: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcfSy... how i got my stolen iphone back: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxCow... my favorite period products: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjSfn... - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Karl Lagerfeld - fashion designer and icon | DW Documentary

42:26
Karl Lagerfeld - the name stands for much more than just fashion. What makes the fashion icon so successful? Who’s the man behind the sunglasses? Designer, artist, fashion icon, also known as "Kaiser Karl." No living fashion designer, let alone a German one, is as celebrated as Karl Lagerfeld. On September 10, the man with the trademark ponytail and sunglasses will celebrate his 85th birthday - it’s believed. From dawn to late morning, Karl Lagerfeld designs for Chanel, Fendi and his own signature brand - a combined workload of up to 15 collections a year. A workhorse who never takes breaks or even a vacation, he is also a photographer and filmmaker. His passion for fashion was awakened by a Dior show in Hamburg in 1950. Four years later, at the age of 17, Karl Lagerfeld was hired as an assistant to Pierre Balmain. Karl Lagerfeld recounts his beginnings in the industry, as well as his upper class background and childhood in Schleswig-Holstein. Karl Lagerfeld was greatly influenced by his mother, whom he describes as his personal style icon. Karl Lagerfeld's caustic comments are notorious and dreaded by those at the receiving end. As an artist, Karl Lagerfeld works in several media, from pictures and photographs to book illustrations and videos. The documentary follows Karl Lagerfeld to exhibition openings, during the hectic preparations for his fashion shows, and at photo shoots in Paris as it seeks to uncover the man behind the mask. _______ DW Documentary gives you knowledge beyond the headlines. How To Make A T-Shirt From Design To Manufacturing Process

11:12
In this video I show you how to make a t-shirt from the design to manufacturing process. It starts with designing a shirt, pattern making, sewing, cutting and then goes into large production manufacturing. More from Bella Canvas: http://bit.ly/2t9Guo6 When starting a clothing line it's important to know the process, and this video is a great way to learn what it takes to create a t-shirt from scratch. Sign up to the newsletter and receive free downloads to help grow your business + enter to win upcoming giveaways: http://bit.ly/Apparel-Download The following steps can be applied to make any product, so feel free to jot down notes and reference this section for future use. Step 1: T-Shirt Design The first step to making a t-shirt involves the design sketch. Create a sketch that depicts the angles and details you'd like the final shirt to have. It doesn't have to be super fancy, as long as you can show what you need. Designing a shirt with the end goal in mind helps the pattern maker know what you are going for. Thanks you Torey Lewitz for joining us. Step 2: Pattern Making Once the designs are completed, you will consult with a pattern maker to bring your clothing line to life. The pattern maker will take your designs and create “patterns” which are the pieces that will be cut and sewn together. Step 3: Sample Cutting Once the patterns are completed, they are printing on a plotter that creates the outline for the sample cutter. The person in charge of cutting the sample will follow the guides to ensure the pieces are cut to the right specifications. Castle Notches allow the person in charge of sewing to close the product up right. Step 4: Sewing The T-Shirt After the fabric is cut out, it is ready to be sewn. The cut pieces are now the shape of the patterns and multiple sewing machines are used to finish the design. The final outcome is hopefully what you envisioned. But more than likely it won’t be the final fit, so you will repeat the process until you are happy with the size, fit and shape of your apparel line. Step 5: Mass Production Cutting As soon as the shirt or apparel design you created is approved, the patterns are finalized and sent into the production process. John Chacon Head Of Production walks us through his process. Step 6: Mass Production Sewing Once the pieces are all cut out, they are sent to the sewing factory. The factory is given the cut fabric and the head of production is in charge of making sure everyone knows what their role is. Step 7: Order Fulfillment/ Clothing Line Distribution The last step in this video is the order fulfillment and distribution of the finished clothing. As a clothing business you also have to think about how you will provide quicker shipping, handle returns and manage employees. Randy Pinter Head of Warehouse Distribution drops the knowledge on what it takes to run this facility. 5 Cosmetic Companies That Lied STRAIGHT To Your Face

These makeup brands tried to fool their customers. Subscribe: https://goo.gl/Hnoaw3 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Who doesn’t love makeup? It can completely transform your look. After wearing makeup for a while, you will probably start to have some favorite brands. But not all brands are what they seem to be. Here are 5 Cosmetic Companies That Lied Straight to Your Face! First off, some companies lie about being cruelty-free. They know that people hate when companies hurt animals so they pretend that they don’t. It’s all just a ploy to make more money. Mary Kay and Estee Lauder are just two of the companies that have been caught red-handed doing this. Next up, is a brand that always seems to be in some kind of hot water. Not too long after they came out, people started accusing the company of reselling wholesale makeup. Apparently, the products looked the exact same. They were just a whole lot more expensive. Want to know the brand? You’ll have to watch the video to see. Even a popular drug store brand has lied! When they came out with their eye cream, the advertisement made it seem like it could completely get rid of crow’s feet. In reality, the advertisement had been so photoshopped that the picture was completely misleading. The company had to eventually pull the ad and replace it with a more accurate picture. Whether it’s lying about the quality, the price, or more, beauty brands are not always the most honest. You won’t believe which companies are on this list! Stay tuned to 5 Cosmetic Companies That Lied Straight To Your Face to find out why Kylie Jenner is under fire! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheTalko Twitter: https://twitter.com/thetalko Instagram: https://instagram.com/the_talko ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.thetalko.com/
