First Fashion Hearing Aid EVER! | Signia Styletto Hearing Aid
First Fashion Hearing Aid EVER! | Signia Styletto Hearing Aid. Dr. Cliff Olson, Doctor of Audiology and founder of Applied Hearing Solutions in Anthem Arizona, discusses the First Ever Fashion Hearing Aid. Website: http://www.AppliedHearingSolutions.com Over the years, eyeglasses have went from a medical device that nobody wanted to wear, now individuals are wearing eyeglasses even if they don't have vision loss. The same thing is starting to happen with hearing aids. Signia released the Styletto Hearing Aids on August 27th, and they are truly the first Made For Fashion Hearing Aids on the market. With their slim and sleek design, they really are a completely new type or hearing aid. They come in three colors: 1. White and Gold 2. Navy and Gold 3. Grey and Brushed Nickel These hearing aids use lithium technology so they don't have to be the sames size as a traditional hearing aid that uses button cell batteries. They provide a full days use on one charge and they come with a battery pack that is smaller than a pack of cigarettes. This pack will give you up to 3 additional charges without plugging it into a power outlet. The Styletto is also on the Signia Nx Platform so you get many of the same features in this hearing aid. It doesn't have Bluetooth wireless capability, but it can use the TouchControl App. It doesn't have room for buttons or volume control so if you want to make adjustments, it does require the app. The Signia Styletto Hearing Aid is truly impressive. Just remember, no matter how good your hearing aid is, no hearing aid performs its best without having Real Ear Measurement performed on them. If you want to learn more about Real Ear Measurement, check out my video here: https://youtu.be/cHR0Oa6I-wY There is one major flaw of the Styletto Hearing Aid though. If you are the type of person that likes to match every outfit, you might have to buy more than one pair. 😀

Signia Styletto Connect Bluetooth Fashion Hearing Aid Review
Signia Styletto Connect Bluetooth Fashion Hearing Aid Review. Dr. Cliff Olson, Audiologist and founder of Applied Hearing Solutions in Anthem Arizona, reviews the New Signia Styletto Connect. Website: https://www.AppliedHearingAZ.com About 6 months ago I reviewed the Signia Styletto hearing aid which, in my opinion, was the first hearing aid worthy of being called fashionable. If you want to see that video check it out here: https://youtu.be/D56Cr54G1FI The Original Styletto hearing aid was designed to be a fashion device on the Signia Nx platform, but in order to create their signature sleek design, they decided to sacrifice connectivity for style. The Nx Line of devices are well known for some unique features, but not having the ability to connect directly to a smartphone for streaming was a significant downfall for the Original Styletto. This is why the New Styletto Connect is a gamechanger. With the ability to now connect and stream audio directly from an iPhone, you don't have to chose between style and connectivity. You can stream phone calls, podcasts, and YouTube videos directly into both ears and also make remote control adjustments to your hearing aids. They have 3 different color options. 1. Black and Silver 2. White and Rose Gold 3. Navy and Rose Gold On a side note, my mother mentioned that if she needed a hearing aid, she would chose the Styletto in White and Rose Gold. 😂 Connectivity and Style aside, let's look at some of the other features of the Styletto Connect. 1. Rechargeability - You can receive 19 hours of battery life in 3 hours of charge time. It comes with a charger case that holds additional charges if you are traveling or are caught at the office after hours. 2. Own Voice Processing (OVP)- Getting used to your own voice being amplified can be made more tolerable using OVP. This feature recognizes your voice and reduces the amount of amplification given to your own voice. 3. Telecare Ready - The Styletto Connect devices can be remotely adjusted by your hearing care professional. This means that you can have adjustments made to your devices from the comfort of your own home. 4. Signia MyControl App - The app lets you make volume and program adjustments inside of your devices. You can also tell the hearing aid microphones which direction you want to pick sound up from. The app has a whole host of features you can adjust so make sure you take plenty of time to explore all it has to offer. As cool as the Styletto connect hearing aids are, there are a few things that bug me. 1. Battery Life - While I love rechargeability, you only get 19 hours of battery life which will likely be reduced by using direct streaming. 2. They have a fixed receiver wire - Receiver wires are the weak link of a hearing aid. When they go bad, they are typically an easy fix. However, these devices don't have interchangeable wires and need to be sent off for a week to Signia for repair instead of just having a simple in-office wire change. 3. No Push Button - While a button was avoided due to cosmetic issues, the only way to turn of your devices is to place them back in to the charger. You also can't pair your devices to a new phone because Bluetooth paring mode is initiated by turning off/on the devices. 4. No Telecoil - Telecoils dramatically improve how well you hear in background noise. But in order to save space, there is no telecoil. Real Ear Measurement: https://youtu.be/cHR0Oa6I-wY Negatives aside, Signia took the proper steps to making the Styletto Connect hearing aid a viable option from a connectivity and performance standpoint. While it does have some negatives, they were all required to achieve a fashionable device, and I for one, think they did an amazing job!

Hearing Aids Tips | Signia Styletto The First Fashion Hearing Aid In The World
Whether we are talking about the clothes we wear, the vehicles we drive or the accessories we use every day, everyone is concerned about style and fashion. As time goes by, aesthetics become more important to users. The medical field is following the trend. Of course, we think of eyeglasses, but not only that! The search for style and modernity is also important in the field of hearing aids. In addition to being more and more efficient, discreet and functional, hearing aids are becoming more and more aesthetic. Unfortunately, today, hearing aids refer to the notion of disability, bulky, unsightly devices, and are associated with the negative features of old age. It is a stigmatizing image. Widex Evoke Hearing Aid Review | First Hearing Aid with Machine Learning
Widex Evoke Hearing Aid Review | First Hearing Aid with Machine Learning. Cliff Olson, Doctor of Audiology and founder of Applied Hearing Solutions in Anthem Arizona, reviews the Widex Evoke Hearing Aid. Website: https://www.AppliedHearingAZ.com In terms of looks, the Widex Evoke has the same form factor that Widex has had for a while. This review is of the Widex Evoke Fusion 2 which is the Bluetooth version of the Evoke. They fit like a standard receiver-in-canal hearing aid, very slim behind the ear, and very comfortable. The evoke also comes in the smaller Passion model, the Fusion without bluetooth, the Fusion 2 which also includes a rechargeable model, a Fashion Mini BTE, Fashion traditional BTE, and a Power Version of the Evoke. The Evoke is best known for being the first hearing aid to utilize Machine Learning Technology. However, lets take a look at some other features that I like about the Evoke. 1. Telecoil - Widex didn't sacrifice the telecoil to use Bluetooth. A telecoil can tap into an induction loop in a public venue like a theater, conference center, or a church. I can also stream audio directly from a telecoil enabled telephone. 2. The 113 dB SPL Linear Input Range - Having a high input range is critical for hearing well in a noisy environment and for better music appreciation. The higher the input range, the better. It prevents the incoming signal from needing to be compressed. Combine the high input range with 4 Analog to Digital converters and you have a hearing aid that can better preserve the integrity of sound, allowing for a cleaner listening environment in nearly every situation. 3. The Sound Classifier - I love when a hearing aid can automatically determine which program settings are best. This means that the hearing aids are constantly surveying the environment to determine which settings are best so you don't have to. The Premium 440 level Evoke has 11 sound classifiers which helps to ensure you are always in the exact right settings for the environment. 4. The Zen Tinnitus Program - Widex is the only company who uses Fractal tones to mask tinnitus and reduce your annoyance level. The most popular Zen tone is "Aqua". You can use these Zen programs by themselves or in combination with another program. 5. Machine Learning - The Widex Evoke hearing aids have the ability to utilize Machine learning to help the hearing aids understand how you like to hear sound. By using SoundSense Learn and SoundSense Adapt, you teach the app which settings you prefer in each environment. You do this by picking between an A & B option while listening to your current environment. You do this until you get the settings exactly right. The adjustments that you make allow the Evoke to learn your preferences, and allow for better updates in the future. These hearing aids are truly revolutionary, but there are some things about the EVOKE that I’m not a huge fan of. 1. Rechargeability - The Evoke hearing aids use ZPower Silver-Zinc rechargeable technology. I currently prefer lithium batteries for their reliability. 2. Only 15 adjustment handles - When programming hearing aids, the more adjustment handles the better. This allows me to program the hearing aids more precisely to a prescription. In a premium level device, I prefer to see 20 adjustment handles. 3. Connectivity - While the connectivity is good with an Apple device, you can't stream directly from an Android device. You can use the App and its features with Android, but if you want to stream audio, you will need a streaming device. Considering what these hearing aids are capable of, the potential negatives seem relatively minor. However, as with any hearing aid, you will only experience the full capabilities of the Evoke hearing aids if you have been fit and programmed correctly. This includes Real Ear Measurement. If you don't know what Real Ear Measurement is, I highly recommend you watch my video: https://youtu.be/cHR0Oa6I-wY The Widex Evoke Hearing aid is truly an impressive device that is one of a kind. So, if you are looking for a hearing aid that allows you to make specific customizations on the fly, with the ability to become smarter over time, you may want to consider the Evoke for your next set of devices.

How To Compare Hearing Aids | 11 Features You Should Look For
How to compare hearing aid features. Dr. Cliff AuD discusses which 11 hearing aid features you should compare between brands and which 4 features you shouldn't in this video. https://www.hearingtracker.com/hearing-aids/compare Let's cover the 11 Features you should use when comparing hearing aids. 1. Hearing aid style - There are several types of hearing aid styles from Invisible aids that are hidden in the ear canal (IICs) to powerful behind the ear (BTE) styles. You even have hearing aids that are called "fashion aids" that are designed to be aesthetically pleasing. 2. Amplification Capabilities - The perfect hearing aid style won't matter if it doesn't have the capability of meeting your hearing loss prescription. If you have a profound hearing loss, you won't be able to wear a tiny invisible device. You should always consider amplification capabilities when comparing devices. 3. Color - You have three approaches when considering color. Either you want them to be invisible, you don't care what they look like, or you want them to be fashionable. Either way, there are many hearing aid colors. 4. Telecoil - Telecoils are amazing pieces of wireless technology. They can help you connect to Looped facilities like Churches and Theaters. They can also help you hear better on a phone that is Telecoil ready. If you have a substantial hearing loss, you would be silly to overlook the telecoil. 5. IP Rating - An IP68 is the highest rating you can get. The first number indicates dust and particulate resistance (6). The second number is the moisture resistance (8). Most hearing aids will be very close to IP68, but it is smart to make sure. 6. Batteries - Disposable vs. Rechargeable hearing aid batteries. Disposable have been reliable for years, Rechargeable are changing the game in terms of convenience. Either way, make sure you understand the pros and cons of each. 7. Battery Size - If you do select disposable, you have a variety of sizes to choose from. The smaller the battery, the shorter the battery life. However, smaller batteries usually afford you a smaller hearing aid. Just make sure you identify if size or power are most important. 8. Phone connectivity - Soon all hearing aids will have the capability of streaming directly from a smartphone. Until then, you have to decide if you want direct streaming which requires an iPhone, or if you want to use a phone streamer that can connect with any smartphone. There are hearing devices that can stream directly from Android, but only phone calls, and only to one ear. 9. Tinnitus Feature - If you have tinnitus, you may want to consider a tinnitus masker inside of your hearing aids. There are a variety of tinnitus masking styles so make sure you evaluate them all before making a decision. 10. Push button availability - Most hearing aids have push button availability. However, you may want more than just a push button for program changes. You may also want a volume control. To allow for these features, you may need a larger hearing aid. Or, you can change these with a smartphone on most hearing aids. 11. Accessories - Different hearing aids have access to different accessories. Make sure you consider which accessories you may need or want and select a hearing aid that has access to these accessories. There are a lot of features worth comparing, however, there are also 4 features that you shouldn't compare. 1. Channels - Beyond a certain point, more channels does not equal better performance. Even the most experienced hearing aid user wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a 38 channel and 48 channel hearing aid. 2. Feedback Cancelers - All major hearing aid brands have good feedback cancellation. The biggest factor that will determine how much feedback you get will be the physical fit of the devices, and that is largely the responsibility of your hearing care provider. 3. Noise Reduction - Comparing noise reduction capabilities between manufacturers can be done, but the differences are minimal. 4. Any Trademarked Feature - All manufacturers name their features differently, but most of them do the same thing. You may feel that one name is more catchy than another, but this doesn't mean that it will perform any better. It always helps to have a resource for compare hearing aid features. At HearingTracker.com you can easily compare hearing aid features using their "Help Me Choose" personalized Hearing Aid Match Survey. Hearing Aid Museum (1967)
London. Various shots show a small boy and a man sitting opposite each other at a desk; the boy is wearing headphones and is taking a hearing test. We then see various shots of hearing aids through the ages, demonstrated by people in period costume. One of the oldest is an earpiece connected to what looks like an urn of flowers; a Victorian lady and several gentlemen (most wearing preposterous false beards and moustaches) listen through various earpieces and tubes. A three way ear horn sits on a table before three people; we see a special 'hearing throne' that was made for the King of Portugal in 1819, with an earpiece attached to the back of a throne with hollow arms. Hearing aids belonging to famous people are seen, including those of Queen Victoria, Gladstone and Winston Churchill. Several more modern aids are seen, ending with a very small hearing aid that fits totally into the ear, battery included. Note: a letter on file suggests these hearing aids were lent by Amplivox, the Hearing Advisory Service, rather than being part of a museum. Perhaps the museum was part of a showroom at Amplivox. Why I Only Recommend PREMIUM Hearing Aid Technology Levels
Why I Only Recommend PREMIUM Hearing Aid Technology Levels. Doctor Cliff Olson, Audiologist and founder of Applied Hearing Solutions in Anthem Arizona, discusses why he only recommends the best hearing aids for his patients. https://www.AppliedHearingAZ.com If you’ve spent some time researching hearing aids, then you have probably noticed that almost every hearing aid manufacturer offers several different levels of hearing aid technology. The higher the technology, the more features the devices have, and the more money you will ultimately spend on those devices. Here are some of those features that make premium level hearing aids better: 1. Better noise reduction - Hearing aid manufacturers spend millions of dollars researching ways improve Signal to Noise Ratio by just a few Decibels. Even these few decibels can mean the difference between you understanding a friend in a noisy restaurant, and you asking “what” all of the time and having to read their lips. The higher the tech level, the better they will perform in background noise. 2. More automatic features - Premium level hearing aids have the ability to automatically adjust to your environment. They constantly survey the environment and put you into better program settings than you could select on your own. No more need for a push button so you can do it yourself. 3. More Adjustment Handles - The more advanced the hearing aid, the better it can be customized to your hearing loss. These adjustment handles are like a piano keyboard. The more keys the better. Imagine if you reduced the amount of keys to 5 and tried to play a song. Not having enough adjustment handles can prevent you from exactly matching your hearing loss prescription. Some of the best hearing aids offer up to 20 adjustment handles while the lower level ones can have as little as 3. Now these are all great reasons to recommend ONLY premium level hearing aids, but the Main reason I recommend premium level technology is that it ensures that you don't leave any benefit on the table. With lower level technology, you will always wonder if you are hearing your best. With premium hearing aids, you never have to wonder. Naturally, there are some people who will say "of course you only recommend the premium technology, that is how you make the most money". The truth is, premium technology costs a clinic more than lower level technology, and often results in a lower profit margin. However, it is worth it to ensure that you can hear your best. The way I see it, the only reason people come to me to maximize their hearing ability. I can try and do this handcuffed by a device that takes this control out of my hands, or I can use a product that allows me to achieve their maximum potential. If you are only looking to gain back part of your hearing, you’re probably wasting your money by coming to me. Do I fit some patients with technology levels below premium? Of course I do. Sometimes a patient’s residual hearing is so bad they won’t even perceive the benefits of a Premium level device, but these hearing losses are few and far between. Typically these are individuals who really need a Cochlear Implant, but don’t qualify for medical reasons. All this being said, paying for Premium level technology would be a waste if you don’t have Real Ear Measurement performed on them to ensure proper programming of the devices. Check out my Real Ear Measurement video here: https://youtu.be/cHR0Oa6I-wY At the end of the day, if you want to hear your best, you should always select premium hearing aid technology. But only if your hearing care provider follows best practices like Real Ear Measurement, because otherwise, you are just flushing that extra money you spent right down the toilet.

The Benefits of a Hearing Aid Telecoil (T-Coil) for Wireless Connectivity in a Public Venue
The Benefits of a Hearing Aid Telecoil for Wireless Connectivity in a Public Venue. Dr. Cliff Olson, Audiologist and founder of Applied Hearing Solutions in Anthem Arizona, discusses Telecoils and why they are so important for hearing better in a public venue. Website: https://www.AppliedHearingAZ.com Phonak: https://www.Phonak.com Recently, Bluetooth has taken all of the wireless attention when it comes to hearing aids. However, telecoils are considered the original form of wireless hearing aid communication and could be the single best feature for hearing better in a public venue such as a church, movie theater, performance theater, or convention center. All you have to do is look for a blue sign with a picture of an ear with a line through it, with a little "T" in the corner. This means that all you have to do is activate your Telecoil and you will be able to hear better in that environment. A telecoil also allows you to hear better on a telecoil enabled phone. If you have trouble on the telephone, a telecoil could be your best friend. Just look for a phone with a "T" rating. These ratings range from 1 to 4 and number 4 is the best. A telecoil, also know as a T-Coil is an extremely small coil of wire that can be installed inside of a hearing aid. This T-Coil can pick up Electro-Magnetic signals from an Induction Loop that is installed inside of one of these facilities. Imagine that you go to a town hall meeting in your home town. If that facility has an Induction Loop connected to their sound system, the T-coil could pick up the sound of whoever is speaking into the microphone at the meeting and send it directly into your ears making their speech significantly clearer than with just using your hearing aid microphones alone. While telecoils are small, they do take up valuable real estate inside of a hearing aid. This is why many manufacturers have elected to remove the telecoil from their devices or have made their devices larger. However, Phonak, has been able to keep the size of their devices small. Their new Audeo Marvel 13T and Audeo Marvel 312T hearing aids are super small and still have a telecoil inside of them. But Phonak didn't stop there. They were also able to keep Bluetooth Classic and Binaural VoiceStream Technology (BVST). With Phonak's Bluetooth hearing aids, you can connect directly to any smartphone including Android and iPhone. This means you can play audio directly from your smart device right into your hearing aids. This includes Phone calls, Podcasts, Music, YouTube videos, or any other audio that plays from your Smart Device. Somehow, Phonak has also been able to keep Binaural VoiceStream Technology (BVST) inside of their devices. This allows each hearing aid to communicate with the other to help you hear better in a background noise situation. The fact that Phonak made a hearing aid without sacrificing other wireless features is truly impressive. Even though Telecoils don't garner as much excitement as other wireless hearing aid technologies such as Bluetooth, they could still be the single most important feature when it comes to hearing better in a background noise situation.

Signia Pure Charge & Go - All In-One-Hearing Aid | Hearing Aid Reviews
What is the Best All-In-One Hearing Aid? It could be the Signia Pure Charge & Go. In this video Dr. Cliff Olson reviews the Signia Pure Charge and Go hearing aid. Website: http://www.AppliedHearingSolutions.com Within the past few months Signia released the Pure Charge & Go Hearing Aid. It received a lot of attention due to the Own Voice Processing (OVP) capabilities of the devices. However this is not why I find these devices impressive. They are impressive because they can do just about everything. #1. They are rechargeable - They use Lithium rechargeable technology which provides 19 hours of battery life without streaming and 17 hours of battery life with 5 hours streaming. The devices also turn on immediately after removing them from the charger. The only thing I don't like about the charger is that it doesn't have a dehydrator kit built in. #2. It has the Broadest Wireless capabilities of any hearing aid - You can connect directly to an iPhone for streaming audio and phone calls to both ears. You can connect to an Android phone and TV, but it requires a StreamLine accessory. The myControl app is excellent and allows for numerous adjustments. #3. Tinnitus Relief Feature - I'm usually not a fan of tinnitus maskers, but Signia uses Notch Therapy. This helps by stimulating the nerves adjacent to your tinnitus frequency to help reduce the perception of your tinnitus. #4. Own Voice Processing (OVP) - I couldn't tell a difference with the OVP on or off. However, their research indicates that some users prefer the reduction of their own voice amplification. This does NOT eliminate the Occlusion Effect. That is a venting issue not sound processing issue. #5. Telecare 3.0 - Teleaudiology has picked up some steam in the recent months. This allows a hearing care professional to program your hearing aids remotely. My out of state patients love this because they don't have to travel back to my clinic for an adjustment. The only thing you may not like is the size and look of the device. It is on the larger side so if you want an invisible device the Charge and go may not be your best option. Overall, the Signia Pure Charge & Go hearing aid has nearly everything you could want in a hearing aid. However, if you want ANY hearing aid to perform at its best, you need to have Real Ear Measurement performed on them. To learn about REM watch this video:

Meet the Eargo Difference: Tiny Hearing Aids at ShowStoppers 2018
Tonight I had the pleasure of meeting the CEO of Eargo. This company has designed the world's smallest hearing aids that almost look like fishing lures. Even though that might cause a laugh, hearing loss is no joke and neither are these hearing aids. I suffer from acute hearing loss and cannot hear high-end frequencies like birds chirping or seat belt dings. Because of this, I was intrigued by what Eargo has to offer. Hearing Aid Leasing vs Buying | ReSound Hearing Aid Leasing Program
Ever wonder if Hearing Aid Leasing was an option instead of Buying? Dr. Cliff Olson, Audiologist and Founder of Applied Hearing Solutions in Anthem Arizona, discusses the differences between leasing and buying, and the New ReSound Leasing Program. Website: https://www.AppliedHearingSolutions.com Real Ear Measurement: https://youtu.be/cHR0Oa6I-wY Nearly one out of every 3 cars on the road is leased. This happens because you can typically get lower monthly payments and you ensure that you always have the newest car on the block. Now this leasing option has come to hearing aids. Typically, the only way to get new hearing aids was to buy them. Sometimes these costs could exceed $10,000 depending on where you go. You could finance them, but you would be stuck paying excessive interest over the course of the loan. However, a prominent hearing aid manufacturer, ReSound, has teamed up with Allegro Credit to provide hearing aid Leasing options instead. Instead of paying a lump sum at the beginning of treatment, you would make monthly payments between $99 and $174 over a 4-year lease term for a pair of devices. This program gives you access to the best technology from Resound including the LiNX 3D and ENZO 3D lines of devices. If you want to upgrade, you can start as early as year 2 for a small fee, or upgrade whenever you like for no additional fee starting at year 3. At the completion of year 4, you could purchase the devices for a small fee, or get new devices and sign up for a new 4-year lease. Included with the lease is: 2 devices (1 if necessary), Professional fitting, Cleanings, Adjustments, Office Visits, Repairs, 4-year warranty and Loss & Damage warranty. Basically, as long as you have the lease, all of your care is covered. Another great thing about the lease is that the cost is controlled by Allegro Credit which means you never have to worry if a clinic is over-charging you for technology and care. Leasing is not a good option for everyone, but if you like the best technology at all times or don't want to pay a chunk of money up-front, Leasing Hearing Aids might be the best option for you. The best part about leasing is that you never get stuck with old technology
