A positive camber profile is going to provide the snowboard with more energy and snap, a stiffer flex will give you more stability and carry you through higher speed turns without washing out, and a wider snowboard will give you the ability to lay over turns more aggressively. Ryan also points out that you can carve and make clean lines with any snowboard, but these things will allow you to progress and try carves you may not be able to on other snowboards.

I purchased the T Rice Pro snowboard by Lib Tech because of its versatility to ride all mountain from carving, to tricks and powder. Andreas is going to take us through other snowboards in the Lib Tech and GNU lines to see if I made the right choice. First we go through a set of park snowboarders from the Lib Tech Skate Banana to the Box Knife and GNU Head space. These snowboard are more park specific with a twin shape and small profile to excel with tricks. Next we look at some all mountain boards like the Skunk ape, TRS, Ejack Knife and GNU Mullair. The TRS and Ejack Knife have there strengths in being more aggressive snowboards for all mountain carving. Where the Mullair is a bit more friendly in powder. The Skunk Ape has the width for riders with larger feet. Finally we get in to some powder specific snowboards like the Lib Tech Rocket Mayhem and the GNU SPAM. Both are made to float with larger noses and small tails. In the end I feel like I made the right choice with the T Rice Pro for that all mountain carver that I can still take into powder and throw some tricks with! Thanks for watching!

Best Men's All Mountain Snowboards : Capita DOA : 2015-2016 Good Wood Board Test

03:53
One way to defend awesome is to keep the highest-scoring board in our test at the lowest pricepoint of any all-mountain winner. A board that testers called “incredibly playful without sacrificing integrity or edge hold,” the DOA has a shorter camber profile extending five centimeters past the inserts to flat, which allowed enough play to keep it fun at low speeds and in softer conditions. Testers liked how this four-time Good Wood winner “ripped both long and short radius turns with a ton of snap.” Not quite stiff enough to be your big-mountain AK slayer, but ideal for everything else. From the testers: “Truly an all around ripper, the shape feels good in the park and the flex was manageable everywhere. Blast ollies, rail carves, and center up on a rails. Join the fight with this board!” Length (cm) — Sidecut Radius (m) — Waist Width (cm) 148 — 7.60 — 24.40 150 — 7.70 — 24.60 152 — 7.80 — 24.80 154 — 7.90 — 25.00 155W — 8.10 — 25.80 156 — 8.00 — 25.20 158 — 8.10 — 25.40 158W — 8.20 — 26.00 160 — 8.20 — 25.70 161W — 8.30 — 26.20 Flex: Medium Camber: Hybrid (regular camber past inserts, zero to reverse to tips (Flex is not standardized and differs by brand. The rating here is the best estimate of the board’s flex ranging from soft, medium-soft, medium, medium-stiff, and stiff.) (Sidecut Radius: The measure of how deep or shallow the arc of a board’s edge is from the tips to the middle, in meters. A smaller radius, around six to seven meters means a board will generally turn tighter. As the radius number increases, a board can be expected to make wider turns. Multiple numbers on the same length board means the radius is blended.) Read more at http://snowboarding.transworld.net/gear-guide/2016-good-wood

THE BEST SNOWBOARD EVER!

09:46
This video is a lot of my personal preference on what is the best snowboard on the market. For someone like me who is 80% a terrain park rider, these two boards are my absolute favorite. Also, the brand Capita is what I've been using for the past 4 years and is my favorite snowboard company at the moment. Pretty much all their boards are made in Austria and have meticulous engineering put into them. For you, these boards may be good but personal preference can keep someone liking straight up camber or rocker or even a mix of the two. Flat camber is just my favorite shape. I wore these snowboard pants for the majority of last season and I've been really impressed by them. The best features of the pants are first the articulated fit of the pant. Which is cut to best fit the shape of your legs in your snowboard stance. Next is the zipper around the waist that actually zips into the snowboard jacket to keep snow out! Those two features of the Volcom articulated pants sold me and I've been really happy with them for snowboarding. The only draw back is they don't have the best waterproofing at 15000 mm, but still good for the price point. It would be great to hear in the comments which snowboard pant you ride and what features you look for. Thanks for watching!

BEST SNOWBOARDS OF 2018-2019 - ROME RAVINE - THE WHITELINES 100

01:46
ROME RAVIVE 2018-2019 SNOWBOARD REVIEW The Rome Ravine snowboard is new for 2018/19, and is perhaps the most all-mountain-friendly of the brand’s ‘Tramline’ range. While the likes of the Powder Division are best saved for the days immediately after a storm, this one will be just as fun on early morning groomers. The shape is pretty hard to miss - the Rome Ravine is a beast of a thing, with a squared-off nose and tail. If you want something that can hold a carve, float in powder and blast through chop, this is it. It’s also wider than average, and has a tapered tail (between 6mm and 10mm, depending on the overall size). For the proof, just check out the Rome Katana, which looks like it might have been dreamed up in a mad scientist’s lab. However, all that clever stuff comes at a price, and it’s not a good match for everyone’s riding style. Fortunately, Rome caters equally as well for the mid-priced, mid-tech market - and the Rome Crux bindings are the latest addition to the line. This offered solid terrain to really feel out the Nitro Squash snowboard, and I think it held up really well. The Squash felt solid through the steep moguls thanks to its mid flex and positive camber profile, while also offering effortless float and quick turns in powder with its short swallow tail. My favorite thing about the Squash is the mix of float, maneuverability, and stability that it offers making this a very versatile snowboard. All in all I think the squash is a great powder specific board that will still hold up well for freeriding and carving, as well as through the trees. Shoutout to Comor Sports for loaning us the board for the day, and let us know what you think about the Squash down in the comments! Thanks for watching.

BEST SNOWBOARD GOGGLES OF 2018-2019 - DRAGON ALLIANCE - THE WHITELINES 100

02:18
DRAGON PXV 2018-2019 SNOWBOARD GOGGLES REVIEW Cylindrical, or spherical? For the majority of snowboarder’s that’s forever been the question when it comes to goggles. Both have their advantages, as well as distinctive aesthetics, so we don’t imagine either will disappear any time soon. Dragon makes both, such as the cylindrical NFX2 and the spherical X1 - but this one, new for 2018/19, is neither. The Dragon PXV snowboard goggles have a lens that’s ‘toric’ in shape. We’ll avoid taking a deep dive into the world of geometry, and say for now that it’s somewhere between the two. Dragon calls its particular shape ‘Panotech’, and the PXV is the first frame in the range to feature it. Read more at https://whitelines.com/snowboard-gear/reviews/goggles/dragon-pxv-2018-2019.html --- DRAGON NFX2 2018-2019 SNOWBOARD GOGGLES REVIEW The Dragon PXV may be the new model, but the instantly-recognisable Dragon NFX2 snowboard goggles will always be the brand’s star pair. Beloved by some of the world’s best pros - many of whom have their own signature collab - the NFX2 is bucketloads of proven tech, wrapped up in a classic ‘frameless’ design. Of course, there is actually a frame, and it’s one with a few tricks up its sleeve - most notable of which is the ‘Swiftlock’ lens-changing system. Two small, plastic levers release the lens on either side when you flick them down. Hey presto, it’s out, and popping the new one in is just a simple reversal of the process. These five tricks will build the snowboard skills you need to progress on to more tricks. The first beginner trick is the tail press. For the tail press the key is to move your hips over your snowboard. The second beginner trick is the nose press. To help you get into the nose press try to reach your front hand down in front of your snowboard. The next two snowboard tricks are the front and backside 180. The best tip for 180's is to get a good pop into the air off of your snowboards edge. The final trick is the butter spin. For beginner snowboarders this is a great first butter because you can practice it on the flat ground. For more snowboarding trick tutorials and tips check out the playlist linked at the end. I think these categories still make sense on a scale from 1-10 where each category could have 2 different levels. Other factors such as the snowboards camber profile can make a difference in how a snowboard flexes and feels, but I didn't want to get too detailed in this video, just a quick overview. 2017 Good Wood Snowboard Test Results Online Now

04:18
Our extensive team of testers—some staff, some ex-pro, some amateur, all rippers—spent last season pitting the newest products in the game against one another to determine which would perform best for Winter 2017. Park decks and all-mountain boards were beat up (some even broken), powder sticks surfed through infinite clouds of cold smoke, and splitboards toured until the legs guiding them called it quits. Gloves were shredded, boots packed out, goggles scratched, helmets scuffed, and outerwear torn—all in the name of providing you with a better idea of what you’re looking for when walking into (or logging onto) your favorite snowboard retailer. In addition to our 18th annual Good Wood board test, which awarded 44 boards with the year’s top honors, we’re proud to showcase our Tested + Approved section in which over 500 products were tested but only a small fraction made the final cut. We’ve also included our Brand Showroom, where top brands highlight some of their favorite gear for the year. BEST SNOWBOARDS OF 2018-2019 - SALOMON ASSASSIN - THE WHITELINES 100

02:06
SALOMON ASSASSIN 2018-2019 SNOWBOARD REVIEW With very few exceptions, there’s not a snowboard brand out there worth its salt that doesn’t make a do-anything, go-anywhere all-rounder. These boards often stay in the range for years, building a solid reputation as a versatile, accessible option. The Salomon Assassin is one example - but rather than getting stagnant, it’s constantly being revised and improved. The outline is still as twin as they come, and as the paint-job suggests it is definitely designed for switch riding. However, the newest incarnation has a more directional flex. The difference between the nose and the tail in this respect means that when riding in powder you should get a better performance when leading with your front foot. It’s subtle, and hardly revolutionary, but sometimes these little tweaks can make all the difference. Read more at https://whitelines.com/snowboard-gear/reviews/snowboards/salomon-assassin-2018-2019.html --- SALOMON HOLOGRAM 2018-2019 SNOWBOARD BINDINGS REVIEW We’ll admit to being a little disappointed that the striking ribcage-esque highback of last year’s Salomon Hologram snowboard bindings has been discontinued, but the new-look design betrays no drop in quality. In fact, this already-impressive model has been souped up further still for 2018/19. We’ll start with that highback; the considerable cut-out section makes it fairly flexible, as well as lightweight, but it’s still supportive enough for when you want to hammer fresh groomers at Mach 10. It’s also really easy to apply exactly the right amount of rotation and, if it’s your thing, forward lean. The Salomon Hologram bindings are built around the ‘Shadowfit’ system, which has a soft heelcup. Comfort is off the charts, as no matter what size or brand of boot you ride, it’ll instantly have a perfect fit with an even distribution of pressure. The Neff Ripper is one of the best snowboard mitts I've ever worn. I'll go over all the features of this snowboard mitt that makes it so great, but also tell you about one of the biggest draw backs. The features of the Neff Ripper that really make them stand out is the fit, materials and wrist straps. The biggest stand out is the silicone palm which is water proof and gives you incredible grip! On my last snowboard trip the grip on these gloves made grabs super easy to do. The one draw back to these mittens is they're made for spring conditions. If you're looking for a warmer mitten I recommend checking out some of the other Neff Mitts. Check out the snowboard gear playlist for more advice on buying snowboard gear. Thanks for watching!

Best Men's All Mountain Snowboards : Salomon Super 8 : 2015-2016 Good Wood Board Test

02:52
Not only did this board want to be on edge at all times, but it held true and slayed both short and long radius turns as a directional twin deck that rode switch smoothly. This penchant for edge hold sketched out a few testers while jumping and straightlining, but overall they reported it to be extremely powerful and reliable. Tiny-footed riders had to work harder to make small radius turns on this wide load, but were able to get it done. Ideal for someone who truly rides everything on any day of the week. “The big nose on this thing is a huge advantage in powder,” said one snow surfer. From the testers: “Extremely solid underfoot. Powerful and reliable. No funny business going on here.” Length (cm) — Sidecut Radius (m) — Waist Width (cm) 147 — 7.3 — 25.1 151 — 7.5 — 25.4 154 — 7.7 — 25.8 157 — 7.9 — 26.0 160 — 8.1 — 26.3 Flex: Medium Camber: Hybrid (regular camber under the back foot to flat under the front) (Flex is not standardized and differs by brand. The rating here is the best estimate of the board’s flex.) (Sidecut Radius: The measure of how deep or shallow the arc of a board’s edge is from the tips to the middle, in meters. A smaller radius, around six to seven meters means a board will generally turn tighter. As the radius number increases, a board can be expected to make wider turns. Multiple numbers on the same length board means the radius is blended.) Words: Scott Yorko Read more at http://snowboarding.transworld.net/gear-guide/2016-good-wood

Best Women's All Mountain Snowboards : Never Summer Aura : 2015-2016 Good Wood Board Test

02:03
Spanking new for the 2015/2016 season, the Aura snagged Good Wood gold for being a sturdy board that rode predictably in all conditions. With rocker in the middle and camber underfoot that mellows out toward the tips for increased stability, testers found it to be a responsive ride. “This deck is perfect for mobbing at high speeds, and also holds its own on jumps,” said one ripping lady shredder. The camber provided controlled pop that held up when dropping cliffs and popping off windlips. Good for girls who want a robust deck that can stand up to bigger lines. From the testers: “I really enjoyed cruising this board and the camber was awesome on the hard pack. No edge chatter at high speeds which was sweet, also.” Length (cm) — Sidecut Radius (m) — Waist Width (cm) 146 — *7.12— 23.5 148 — *7.22 — 23.5 150 — *7.42 — 23.7 152 — *7.45 — 23.8 155 — *7.53 — 23.9 Flex: Medium-soft Camber: Hybrid (reverse between inserts, regular camber to tips) (Flex is not standardized and differs by brand. SNOWBOARDER Magazine's unbiased blank snowboard test, The Blackboard Experiment. Ten snowboard brands provided us with a snowboard of their choice, but the one caveat was that it had to have a black topsheet and base graphic, so as to keep the anonymity of the brand only between them and us. Sage Kotsenburg, 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic gold medalist tested every deck, putting it through the paces in Mammoth Mountain's hallowed Main Park. The above video features the snowboard Sage deemed the Best 2017 Jump Board, the Burton Custom Twin. This daily driver surprised everyone in the test with its ability to circle carve on low-angle slopes and handle every feature on the hill from pow to groomers to moguls to trees, suiting a beginner just as well as an expert. “It did exactly what you wanted it to do from a 30-degree morning start into 60-degree afternoon slush,” said one tester. “That thing can go anywhere and blew my mind.” Playful yet powerful, the One initiated turns with ease and rode smaller than its actual size, though it’s probably not your top choice for gnarly big mountain lines. From the testers: “I took it in the pipe and had the best run of the test on it. Such an anomaly! Carving Thanksgiving turkeys on this one next year!” Length (cm) — Sidecut Radius (m) — Waist Width (cm) 153 — 4.6/6.7/8 — 25 156 — 4.7/7.1/8.3 — 25.2 159 — 5.1/7.3/8.6 — 25.4 157W — 4.7/7.1/8.3 — 26.4 161W — 5.1/7.3/8.6 — 26.6 165W — 5.5/7.6/8.9 — 26.8 Flex: Medium-stiff Camber: Hybrid (regular camber between inserts, reverse to tips) (Flex is not standardized and differs by brand. Multiple numbers on the same length board means the radius is blended.) Read more at http://snowboarding.transworld.net/gear-guide/2016-good-wood
Best Men's Park Snowboards : DC PBJ : 2015-2016 Good Wood Board Test

02:51
Sometimes big things come in small, 350-dollar packages with centered stances and playful flex. For park rats looking to get buck on a budget, you can’t do much better than this deck. “I’m crazy hyped on the PBJ,” said one tester. “It looks so simple, and guess what? Simple works.” Best in softer afternoon conditions, the PBJ was consistently praised as predictable, controllable, and versatile. Like the sandwich, you can take it just about everywhere, though it’s ideal for small- to medium-sized features you’ll find at places like Big Bear. Tweakable for nice, crisp grabs. From the testers: “Cannot wait to ride this board when the conditions soften up a little bit. Great for pressing and buttering. Real quick turner, awesome for spinning onto rails.” Length (cm) — Sidecut Radius (m) — Waist Width (cm) 144 — 6.5 — 24.60 149 — 6.7 — 24.80 153 — 6.9 — 25.00 155W — 7.1 — 25.10 157 — 7.0 — 26.10 159W — 7.2 — 26.30 Flex: Medium Camber: Regular camber (Flex is not standardized and differs by brand. Best Men's Park Snowboards : Salomon Craft : 2015-2016 Good Wood Board Test

03:13
Salomon really went for that minimalist, naked feeling under your feet with the Craft, which was easy to control and whip around while goofing and making up fun little tricks. Some testers described it as having perfect flex, while others thought the tip and tail had slightly odd flex points due to the funky twin shape. “I did want a little more meat on the bone,” said one hefty tester who likes to ride with a lot of energy between the feet. A few reported it as a responsive and stable all-around park board that can handle all the small, jibby hits, yet too soft for super kickers. From the testers: “It’s a good rail board and for buttering up the nice toasted muffin, but it was hard to get on edge. This thing is fuckin’ blueberry supreme for the grinds. I can’t say anymore. Chris is looking over my shoulder.” Length (cm) — Sidecut Radius (m) — Waist Width (cm) 146—7 — 24.5 149 — 7.2 — 24.7 152 — 7.4 — 24.9 154 — 7.6 — 25.1 156 — 7.8 — 25.7 158 — 8 — 25.9 160 — 8.2 — 26.1 Flex: Medium Camber: Hybrid (zero between inserts, camber near inserts, reverse to tips) (Flex is not standardized and differs by brand. Best Men's Park Snowboards : Jones Ultra Mountain Twin : 2015-2016 Good Wood Board Test

02:37
Jones is traditionally more of a freeride company, so this board surprised a few with its performance in the park category. “Jones makes a great shape for a carbon board, but they really nailed the flex pattern on this one,” said one Team Utah coach. “If you like a park board but want a little more response and pop out of your jumps, that’s a good board to have.” The camber profile becomes reverse camber just outside the feet, which gave riders stability when approaching features at high speeds. Nimble with low swing weight, it hit rails well too. “The Jones Ultra Mountain Twin isn’t your every day jibber, but the board pretty much destroys park. This could almost be your ATV for the mountain.” Length (cm) — Sidecut Radius (m) — Waist Width (cm) 154 — 7.6 — 25 157 — 7.8 — 25.3 158W — 7.9 — 25.8 160 — 8.0 — 25.6 Flex: Medium-stiff Camber: Hybrid (regular camber past inserts, reverse to tips) (Flex is not standardized and differs by brand. The rating here is the best estimate of the board’s flex.) (Sidecut Radius: The measure of how deep or shallow the arc of a board’s edge is from the tips to the middle, in meters. The Blackboard Experiment: 2017 Board Test - Best Overall Snowboard: Salomon Huck Knife

01:00
SNOWBOARDER Magazine's unbiased blank snowboard test, The Blackboard Experiment. Ten snowboard brands provided us with a snowboard of their choice, but the one caveat was that it had to have a black topsheet and base graphic, so as to keep the anonymity of the brand only between them and us. Sage Kotsenburg, 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic gold medalist tested every deck, putting it through the paces in Mammoth Mountain's hallowed Main Park. The above video features the snowboard Sage deemed the Best 2017 Overall Board, the Salomon Huck Knife. Best Men's All Mountain Snowboards : Capita Mercury : 2015-2016 Good Wood Board Test

02:55
“If this board were a sword, it would be a lightweight, broad sword meant to cut fast and power through things,” declared one tester. Everyone else seemed to agree, touting its aggressive feel, predictable takeoffs and landings on big jumps, confident handling in the pipe, tail load for big ollies, and edge hold on boardercross lines. Several riders wished for a little more torsional flex out of the box, which they’d likely get after the break-in period. Beginners and experts alike will appreciate this one, from powder hounds and tree ninjas, to mogul hoppers and groomer cruisers. From the testers: “I knew exactly what to expect taking off and landing. Handled perfect in the pipe and even felt good on rails.” Length (cm) — Sidecut Radius (m) — Waist Width (cm) 153 — 7.50/1.50/7.50 — 25.30 155 — 7.70/1.50/7.70 — 25.50 157 — 7.85/1.50/7.70 — 25.70 159 — 8.00/1.50/8.00 — 25.90 161 — 8.15/1.50/8.15 — 26.10 Flex: Medium-stiff Camber: Hybrid (regular camber to inserts, reverse to tips) (Flex is not standardized and differs by brand. Best Men's Park Snowboards : YES. Jackpot : 2015-2016 Good Wood Board Test

02:56
Back on the Good Wood list after a two-year hiatus, the Jackpot got updated with a narrower waist width and wider platform outside the bindings, making it more stable and a little faster edge-to-edge. The Camrock base profile puts camber between the feet and rocker out to the tips. “It’s buttery but isn’t afraid to hold an edge and take you for a carve,” said one Winter Park local who sent it the biggest of them all. Another called it “the most stable park board I’ve ever ridden” with “consistent flex all around and lots of pop… Perfect weight and highly predictable,” said one of our shreddy testers. From the testers: “Jackpot, Baby! This might be the most well rounded park board I’ve ever ridden.” Length (cm) — Sidecut Radius (m) — Waist Width (cm) 149—7.2—24.8 152—7.4—25 154—7.5—25.1 156—7.6—25.2 156W—7.6—25.8 158—7.7—25.4 Flex: Medium-stiff Camber: Hybrid (regular camber between inserts, reverse near tips) (Flex is not standardized and differs by brand.
