HTML Inline Style (Style Attribute) Tutorial

15:16
HTML Inline Style (Style Attribute) Tutorial .. Hello guys! in this lecture we are gonna learn HTML style attribute or inline style.. But first, I wanna explain why we need this style thing? Because, we may need to change the look of an HTML element.. maybe a background color, a font size or color.. whatever we want to control in terms of style we can do that.. it’s easy and I’ll teach you..in this video.. Let’s start with coding our standard HTML structure or skeleton.. To be honest, we don’t need to code this skeleton because our elements will work without body, or head or html tags.. however, I want you to be professional developer so it’s important to get used to the common structure.. I hope you understand .. Anyway, I’m implementing my first HTML element, and it is a level one heading.. it could be anything but.. whatever.. Yeah.. put some text inside this.. like “Hi! I’m the Most Important Text in This Document” or you can put whatever text you want.. sky is the limit.. Let’s see how it looks.. as you probably know I always use Coda2 as code editor because I love it, and this code editor has it’s own preview window.. probably your code editor has no feature like this.. that’s not the matter, save your source code and open up your saved html file with any browser like chrome, firefox or safari.. Anyway , I wanna start right away.. the first thing you need to know is how to add an inline style.. An inline style can be inserted into any HTML element with “style attribute”.. that’s what I’m doing right now.. then , add double quotes and write your style rules inside the double quotes. I want my level one heading’s color to be green, so I must do that with color:green CSS rule…

CSS - Upgrading HTML Tags with Style: Creating a Website Made Easy

20:00
Lesson on Upgrading HTML Tags to CSS Style from Udemy online course: Creating a Website Made Easy Full course description and 25% discount coupon: http://tharsishighlands.com/online-courses/creating-a-website-made-easy/ Transcript: In this lesson, we will take many of the basic HTML tags and use them as CSS element selectors to upgrade their style. In CSS, the HTML tags are called "elements." BODY First, we start with the [body] tag element (YouTube does not allow angle brackets in description). When you first set up your main CSS file, you typically want to establish the basics for your entire page. These can include, • background-color • background-image • default font-size, color and font-family All of these can be handled in the body element. For example, body { background-color: linen; background-image: url("pix/tree.jpg"); font-family: Vera, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; color: #24425C; } SELECTORS We've already seen a little about CSS syntax. For example, h1 { color: blue; } Each CSS style starts with a selector and is followed by one or more declarations within open and close braces — each declaration being a property-value pair: { property: value } Element selectors select all HTML tags of the same name. For instance, for the [p] tag, p { text-align: center; color: red; } [p]All paragraphs with only the p tag are centered and red. This is a demonstration of how the element selector works.[/p] The ID selector uses the ID attribute of an HTML element to select that specific element. ID is a unique identifier. On any one page, there can be only one of that ID. Also, the ID name cannot start with a numeral. For example, #first_heading { color: red; } [h1 id="first_heading"]This is the First Heading on the Page[/h1] The class selector selects all elements with a specific class attribute. .quote { border-style: solid; border-width: 1px; border-color: #880000; padding: 5px; font-size: 18px; font-style: italic; } Here, we see a class called "quote" which uses larger type, italics and a dark red border. Next, is the HTML which uses that class. [p class="quote"]"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."[/p] A class can be restricted to only one element type. For example, p.first { text-indent: 0px; } This can be helpful if all other paragraphs are given an indent. The first paragraph after a heading can be made flush left. We can also use more than one class at a time. For example, [p class="first quote"]"Houston, we have a problem..."[/p] We've already seen how selectors which share property values can be grouped. h1, h2, h3 { color: steelblue; } In the earlier lesson on the Head section, we learned how to link to an external style sheet — a file with sets of selectors and declarations. For internal CSS, you have the same selector-declaration combinations, but set within open and close [style] tags. [head] [style] body { background-color: darkslateblue; } [/style] [/head] And for inline CSS, you have the same selector-declaration combinations within a style attribute. [p style="text-indent: 50px; color: steelblue;"]This is important text.[/p] Multiple Styles Cascade into One CSS statements have a sequence of priority. The lowest priority of style is the browser defaults. Next are the external and internal style sheets in the head section. Sequence matters, so if you link to your external style sheet after the internal style declarations, the external CSS takes priority over the internal. Finally, the inline style declarations take the highest priority. For all style information that uses the same selectors, the highest priority replaces the lower priorities. For example, External: p { color: blue; text-indent: 30px; } Internal: p { color: green; } Inline: p { color: red; } The final style is: p { color: red; text-indent: 30px; } Background: The following properties control the background of HTML elements. • background-color • background-image • background-repeat • background-attachment • background-position Example: body { background-color: blue; } As we've already learned, colors can be specified, • As Hex — like "#00ffff" • As RGB — like "rgb(0,255,255)" • By name — like "aqua" We will learn more about colors and the new CSS3 color specification in a later lesson. Background Image: The default behavior of a background image is to repeat the image both vertically and horizontally in order to fill the entire background of the element with the selected picture. body { background-image: url("pix/sandbaked.gif"); } [...] In the next lesson, we talk about fonts, tables and links. The HTML Style Attribute is for setting different styles of an HTML element. To apply style on supported HTML element, write the HTML element and define the style property as the syntax shown. Syntax - <tagname style="property:value;"> The property defines, what style is to be set for the HTML element. The property is something which is called CSS property or cascading style sheet. CSS is used to define all the style properties of HTML document. The value in style attribute is a CSS value. Let’s learn more about the style attribute, properties and values. HTML Background Color The background-color property defines the background color for an HTML element. Example <h1 style="color: blue;">This is a heading</h1> <p style="color: red;">This is a paragraph. </p> HTML Fonts The font-family property defines the font to be used for an HTML element. The syntax is to define property font family as shown with value as any color Syntax - <tagname style="font-family:value;"> This example sets font as verdana and courier. Example <h1 style="font-family:verdana;">This is a heading</h1> <p style="font-family:courier;">This is a paragraph.</p> HTML Text Size The font-size property defines the text size for an HTML element. The syntax is to define property font size as shown with value as any color The syntax is to define property font size as shown with value as size Syntax - <tagname style="font-size:value;"> This example sets the header font size to 3 times and paragraph font size to 160 percent. Example <h1 style="font-size:300%;">This is a heading</h1> <p style="font-size:160%;">This is a paragraph.</p> HTML Text Alignment The text-align property defines the horizontal text alignment for an HTML element. WordPress: how to change the font (size / type / color) on your entire website

02:57
WordPress: how to change the font (size / type / color) on your entire site Full article: http://imstartpage.com/change-font-wordpress-font-type-size-color Find or convert hex colors: http://imstartpage.com/color-code-conversion-tool-rgb-hex-cmyk Follow me on other media: ►Website: http://www.guidoshowtos.com ►Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/guidoshowtos ►Twitter: https://twitter.com/guidoshowtos ►Google+: https://plus.google.com/+Guidoshowtos Full instructions: The method I'm going to show, will change the default font on your entire website. The default font on your site is specified by a file called a 'stylesheet'. The stylesheet is part of your current WordPress theme. So; to change your font, you'll have to edit your stylesheet. To find out exactly what to edit, you can use a feature in Google Chrome; right-click the font you want to change, and then click 'inspect element'. On the right side of the menu, you'll see exactly what parts of the stylesheet are being used to make your site look the way it looks. Here, scroll down until you find something that says 'font'. OK, this is the part that specifies what fonts are being used on your site. You can have a look at the entire stylesheet by clicking this link. To change the font in WordPress, we need to find this part of the stylesheet in the back-end of WordPress. Because your stylesheet contains hundreds of lines of code, an easy way to find it is to use Google Chrome's search feature. So, I'm going to copy this part of the code, and add it in the search bar later. To edit your stylesheet, go to your dashboard, then click 'Appearance', and then 'Editor'. By default, it'll open the stylesheet, so that's style.css. Now press Ctrl+F to bring up the search bar, a and paste the text you copied earlier. This will bring you to the exact code you need to edit. For 'Font size', change the number to make your font smaller or larger. To change the font type, edit the name of the font, for 'font-family'. The first one in the line is the one that's going to be used. For 'color', enter the color you want to use. These are specified in the hexadecimal format (hex). When you're done making changes, scroll down and click 'Update file'. And that's it! Go back to your site, and refresh the page to see the changes take effect. And it works; your site is now using a larger font, another font type, and another font color. --- Dutch article: http://websiteopzetten.com/lettertype-font-veranderen-wordpress-type-grootte-kleur/ Also read: http://websiteopzetten.com/webhosting/

CSS Tutorial — EM & REM, Relative Sizes (8/13)

05:15
CSS Tutorial — EM & REM, Relative Sizes (8/13) We covered absolute units like pixel values, and we covered relative units like percentage. Now let’s talk about another super important relative unit. EM. This is mostly used to size text. Sizing your fonts is absolutely crucial in having a good looking page. It’s one of the most important aspects of UI design. Typography. I mentioned default browser styles a couple of videos ago. Let’s look at H1 in Chrome. H1 has this weird font-size value of 2em. That line is the reason why H1 so big without you writing any CSS. But what is that? EM? EM is another relative unit of measurement, similar to percentage. EM always has a number in front of it. 2em, 3em, .5em. Font-size: 2em means, hey what is my expected font-size if I didn’t have any other CSS? I want my size to be 2 times that. Twice as big. So what is my expected Font-size? Font size is usually inherited from the parent, so say I have a font-size: 12px on the body tag. And I have a direct H1 child inside it with font size: 2em. That will make the H1 size automatically 24px, double its parent. Because it’s 2EM. So it’s almost like the H1 is listening directly to its parent. 3em, 3 times that or 1em, the same size as my parent. You can even do decimal points like .5, half, 50%, .2, 20%. This is useful because you can set font-size of the body to be whatever, and all its children that have their sizing in em will listen to that and resize immediately. This way you don’t have to specify how many pixels for every single child. You define it once on the body, and everybody will resize themselves. Except there’s one problem. EM inherits from the direct parent, not from the body. So in our example we’re lucky the H1 is directly on the body but... if you have children inside children, they’re going to affect each other’s size. Say you have a P tag with A tags inside it. Say body font size is 20px. If my P tag is 2em, that makes it 40px, and my A tag is 3em, that makes the A 3 times as big as the P, so 40x3, 120px. This can get really confusing really fast. I don’t like it. I know a bunch of you are gonna get mad at me cuz you disagree with me, and that’s ok. You can start your own ColorCode on youTube and call it ColorChode and make your own videos and disagree. Anyway, back to EM. In real world applications you have several layers of elements inside one another, so it becomes really difficult trying to find out how big something is if you use relative values and have to keep going up the chain of parents and calculate. What is .7em of 2em of .5em of 14 pixels? That’s cray cray. Lucky for us, there is a solution. And it’s a solution that I personally like a lot, it’s not perfect but it covers 99% of what I want. And that is REM. Root EM, whatever EM stands for. I probably should have googled that. HAHA Actually I did, And I didn’t find a satisfactory answer. Anyway, REM is the exact same thing as EM except it’s not relative to the inherited font size from the parent, it’s relative to the root element, your beloved HTML tag. Remember that guy? This means you can give your HTML element a size. Say 14px. And any element inside your page, anywhere, regardless of who their parent is, given an REM font size, will then resize relative to 14px. This is in my opinion the cleanest way to specify font size, have it be easy to read, and still flexible like EM. So,... I think it’s time for a demo. I just gave you aloooot of information. Let’s go back to our profile page and clean up them sizes using both absolute and relative units. I’ll see you there.

CSS Tutorial — How to use Fonts (12/13)

04:41
CSS Tutorial — How to use Fonts (12/13) All you gotta do to change the font of your page is decide what font you wanna use, say Roboto and write font-family: Roboto… Really? No... not really, it’s more complicated than that. Typography is a gigantic topic in web design and of course you have a ton of options in CSS to better your font styles and its readability. Now this isn’t a design course, so I won’t be covering design theory, I’m not gonna tell you what looks good and what doesn’t, but I will show you how to manage your fonts in HTML/CSS. You can use fonts that already exist on your computer and everybody else’s computers like “Times New Roman” or “Arial”, these are generic “WEB SAFE” fonts, but they’re limited and honestly kinda boring. Or you can use what’s called a custom font. There are a ton of custom fonts out there. If you’re a designer you have definitely worked with custom fonts so you know what I’m talking, you’re also not gonna like what I’m about to say. I am not a huge fan using custom fonts for websites Not because they’re not cool or pretty. But for one thing, not all browsers render custom fonts the same way or even correctly, so you potentially run that risk. Also, using custom fonts means anybody going to your site has to wait for the browser to download the custom font first, then render the site. Where as with generic fonts it doesn’t. And that’s costly, it takes time and bandwidth. Lastly, a huge proportion of custom fonts are great for banners and flyers and quotes (SHOW INSTAGRAM QUOTE, SHAKE HEAD), but they are absolutely awful for long body text like articles. Their readability is not always the best. With all that said, a lot of people still use them for many different reasons. Trust me, I understand the importance of uniqueness and personality when it comes to design, in fact ColorCode’s website uses a custom font on the hero page, but it comes at a cost. Custom fonts are like a chocolate milkshake. They’re sooo amazing but you really shouldn’t be doing it, unless you are willing to pay the price… Anyway,...I still want you to know how to change fonts. There are 2 things you need to do. Load or “EMBED” the font into the page (assuming it’s a custom font, for generic fonts you can skip this step), THEN change the font-family property in your CSS. How do you load fonts? Using a LINK tag in your HTML… OR…. an @import or @Font-Face statement in your CSS to point to the location of that font. It could be loaded from anywhere on the internet and I’ll show you an example in a second. Again, if you’re using a default font, you don’t need to load anything, because Arial is already available on everybody’s computer/phone/iPad, etc... So,...we’re gonna get some help from our friends over at google fonts to demo this. So head over to fonts.google.com and I’ll show you how. So here it is, a long list of custom fonts for you, pick one and look at the instructions. So I’m gonna pick Roboto and look, it even generates the code for you to embed and then set the font-family. Notice the embed part can be done in a couple of different ways, also the CSS font-family statement can take multiple values separated by a comma. This means hey, Mr. Browser, if you can’t find the first one for whatever reason, cuz it’s a fancy one, go to the next one, if you can’t find that one either, keep going until you get to one that you CAN render. You always wanna have backups in case your custom font can’t be loaded. So, in the next video I’m gonna update our Profile page to use Google Fonts. It’ll be our last demo in this course and it’ll instantly make our page look much more professional, see you there.

Background color using Hex color codes. Coloring a webpage background is actually pretty simple. The first and most popular way is by using a Hex color code with the background-color property. Here we apply a Hex color directly on the HTML body tag element using the style attribute. Setting the style of an HTML element, can be done with the style attribute. The color property defines the text color for an HTML element The font-family property defines the font to be used for an HTML element Attributes provide additional information about HTML elements. HTML Tutorial: Page Formatting

03:49
Watch more HTML Tutorials videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/480438-HTML-Tutorial-Page-Formatting "Hi, I am Daniel Davis. I am a certified computer expert and tech guru. Along with having one of the top tech channels on youtube, my work has also been featured in textbooks, software guides, and hundreds of popular tech blogs. And today I am going to be talking to you about HTML. Html is the coding language that webpages are written in. To create a basic webpage all you need is a text editor, such as notepad in Windows or Text Edit in Mac and a web browser. Html separates the different sections of the webpage using what's called markup tags. These are characterized by angled brackets. Within the website you'll see a head section and a body section. The body section is where the content of the webpage goes. To add text to your webpage, you can use the p markup tag for paragraph. Add your text and then close off the markup tag like this. In order to align the text to the page you need to add what's called an attribute to the p tag that reads align equals center or right or left depending on how you want it align it. By adding a font tag you can add size and color attributes to change the size and color of the font. Anytime you want to preview your webpage just save it as an html file and open it up in a web browser. Likewise to add a picture, you can add an img markup tag and use the src attribute to set it equal to the image location. You can use the center tags to align it to the center of the page. By adding attributes to the body tag you can change the settings for the entire page. For instance you can set the background color , the background image and the text color from here. When it comes to formatting pages, the basic approach would be to add page breaks like this which breaks the content into separate lines. Or you could use horizontal rules like this, which separates content using a horizontal line. A more advanced way though would be to use tables. To create a basic table you start by adding the table markup tags, then in between them you can add the row markup tags. You can add an opening and closing row tag for however many rows that you want in the table. Then in between each row tag, you want to add the data cell tags which will create the columns. If I add 2 columns to the first row then to keep the table even, I need to add 2 columns to each of the remaining rows. It's in between these td tags that you'll place your content. Like with all the other previous markup tags, you can add attributes to change the look of the tables, such as the background color, the border size, cell padding and alignment. If you want the table to be invisible, just set the border size to zero. Another option you have for organizing your content is through using lists. There's 2 types of lists, numbered or organized listed denoted by the ol markup tag, and bulleted or unorganized lists denoted by the ul markup tag. Each item in the list will be surrounded by li markup tags to show that they are list items. So that should get you started with getting your webpage data formatted and organized. "
