I was born and raised in the Netherlands, studied English Literature at Leiden University (also in the Netherlands), studied in the US for 3 months and had lots of American friends, hence the weird accent. I'm definitely not Irish or Canadian, I promise! Where do you live? I live in London and have been here for 3.5 years now. Where do you work? I'm a Social Media Producer at Penguin Random House UK. How did you get into publishing? I did publishing work experience on 3 different occasions, did a lot of networking and learned everything I know about social media from creating and running this channel for 7 years. (P.s. You don't necessarily have to study Publishing or English to get a job in publishing!). Can you review my book? I can't guarantee that I will, but if you'd like to get in touch, please take a look at my review policy on the 'About' page of my channel. What do you use to film? I have a Canon 60D with a Tokina 11-16 lens (which is super useful if you want to sit close to your camera and still get a wide shot) and I use a window as my natural lighting. I edit my videos in Final Cut X.

Because of changing library information systems, computerised catalogues are increasingly being used to record, store and retrieve holdings in libraries. Ann Hannan demostrates how to use the OPAC (On Line Public Access Catalogue) System, which is a touch system used in public libraries in 1988. Using a computer catalogue (1988) is just one of the many films that we are digitising. Discover more about the process on our website. DIY - Antique Stereo 3D View Card Storage Cabinet

01:39
I collect antique vintage 3D stereo view cards (Holmes format) and also make my own view cards. I needed a cabinet to store my collection in my old-time looking office. I wanted the cabinet it to look like an old library card-catalogue. The unit needed to accommodate my 3.5" x 7" view cards along with my 5" x 7" view cards. I made the drawers to accommodate the cards and then made the cabinet to fit the drawers. I built 12 small and 12 large drawers. The front and back of the drawers are interlocked for durability. The card support in each drawer is wedged shaped. The pressure of the view cards binds the card support on the metal rod keeping the cards towards the front of each drawer. Each drawer can hold up to 200 view cards. With a total of 24 drawers this cabinet can hold over four thousand cards; plenty of room for my collection. Flashback to the Future: the Library of Congress 70 Years Ago

20:58
A proud and patriotic tour through the Library’s reading rooms, book stacks, card catalogs and auditorium, the Academy Award-winning short documentary “Library of Congress” (1945), preserved by the Academy Film Archive, highlights the federal institution’s global and local impact. The journey of books from Washington D.C. to rural America bookends the film, reinforcing its theme of the Library as an ambassador of knowledge and free speech. The film emphasizes the diversity of the Library’s impressive collections, from American history collections that range from founding documents to Native American and immigrant histories, to the Oriental Division (now the Asian Reading Room), and the Library’s efforts to bring reading to non-sighted patrons with books in Braille and “talking books” on records. The film showcases the Library’s cutting-edge technology for the time, such as the vast pneumatic tube and conveyor belt system used to send and receive requested books; climate control; and special storage and display for maps and artwork. Also featured are newsreels highlighting the then-recent addition of the Motion Picture Section (also known as the motion picture collection), as well as the collection and preservation of field recordings of American folk vocal traditions. The film concludes with an extended musical performance demonstrating the Library’s public arts programs. “Library of Congress” was restored from a 35mm nitrate print by the Academy Film Archive in 2006. The film is just one of over 230 unique titles in the Academy Film Archive’s War Film Collection (http://oscars.org/film-archive/collections/academy-war-film-collection), which includes rare 35mm nitrate prints of war shorts, many produced by Hollywood studios on behalf of the U.S. government. The Academy’s collection includes the Academy War Film Library files, held at the Margaret Herrick Library: http://catalog.oscars.org/vwebv/search?searchArg=%22Collection%201258%22&searchCode=GKEY%5E&searchType=0&recCount=50.
