Sign up for a free business coaching call with Jay P. on March 3rd: http://bit.ly/1O0rCtY Hi this is Jay P. Morgan. Today on The Slanted Lens we’re going to talk about clamps- the basic clamps and the ones that I love. Now this is not super glamorous stuff to talk about. But it’s the basics that we use every single day that we’re on set. One of my listeners wrote in and said, “Tell me about clamps.” So we’re gonna talk about clamps. The clamps that every body uses and a couple you might not have heard of before. There are tons of clamps and we could do lots of different lessons on them all, but today I’m covering seven. We’ve got an A-clamp, a super clamp, a Cardellini, a platypus (or duck bill) clamp, an adjustable gaffer grip, a c-clamp, and a chain vice grip. I’m going to show you how each one works, fill you in on the advantages and disadvantages of each, and tell you what I’d put in my beginning clamp kit if I were just starting out. Hope you learn something new today. Leave questions or thoughts in the comments below. Thanks for watching. Keep those cameras rollin’, keep on clickin’. -Jay P. Flex Gooseneck Adapters: http://cheesycam.tv/gooseneck Combine w/ Super Clamps!: http://cheesycam.tv/superclamp Read Full Article: http://cheesycam.tv/flexneck Flexible Gooseneck Light Stand Adapter for flex mounting of LED Lighting on stands or other uses. I picked up a few of these Flexible Gooseneck Adapters mainly to use as a simple and flexible way of positioning a microphone at my desk while i'm doing screen recording tutorials on my computer. These Gooseneck type Adapters can also be used on top of light stands to adjust something like an LED Light to hang over head when doing product photography. While these 10" Light Stand Adapters are labeled as flexible, they do take some force to bend over. This is probably not ideal for very lightweight use, but is perfect if you plan to work with heavier equipment. What I love about them is the 1/4" thread mounted at the tip which is very standard to mount accessories (can be adapted to 3/8"), and also that you can stack them together (chain up) for a longer flexible arm. When you combine these Flexible Light Stand Adapters with a Super Clamp and Pin (, you can get a lot more use out of by clamping to tables, chairs, poles, tree branches, fences, etc. I was lucky to grab a few at $8 bucks, but I think it's still a good deal finding these Flexible Stand Adapters for around $10-$13 dollars. $11 Flex Gooseneck: http://cheesycam.tv/gooseneck

This video is about the pieces of photo grip gear that I feel are the most important photo clamps to have in my studio. A Clamps, Manfrotto Super Clamps and Neewer Heavy Duty Metal Clamp Holders are the studio clamps that I will discuss in this video. I would be doing you a disservice if I didn’t point out there are thousands of different photography clamps and pieces of photo grip gear that could make your life easier and your equipment safer. It would be impossible for me to talk about all of them in a video - not to mention that I can’t afford all of them. The real challenge is how do you find a piece of photography grip gear if you don’t know that it exists??? Well - I have learned that if there is a piece of grip gear that I wish existed to solve one of my problems - it probably does exist because I am probably not the first photographer to wish for it. The problem is - if I don’t know what its called - how can I find it to order it? Here is my tip… Order the B&H Catalog. They are free and they have pages and pages of cool gadget clamps, holders, spigots and grip gear like you have never imagined. This is 11” magic arm, bought on ebay for 12 dollars. The magic arm comes with super clamp crab plier clip that will mount to almost anything (table edge, camera rods, light stand ect.). This Super clamp comes with standard 1/4” and 3/8” screw thread, so you can use it for many other things apart from magic arm. Pacgage also includes kind of cold shoe adaptor wich has multiple purpose. I will use this part for my small led light that fits it perfectly. Each side of this 11” magic arm has the standard quarter inch screw and one knob to screw the magic arm in place. Material seems high quality… feels pretty strong. The description on ebay states that it should hold up to two and a half kilos, so i find that pretty awsome, considering the size and price of the magic arm. So if you are a DSLR film and video maker, this is definitely a must have multi purpose item. Likes, comments, shares and subscribers are very welcome. Thank you for watching.

Welcome to my first Super Photography Tip. In this short video, I'll show you how a super clamp can be used on location so you don't have to carry around a lighting stand. When I met with Australian model Elizabeth for a shoot in London on a gorgeous summers day, I decided instead of mounting my Profoto B2 light on a lighting stand, I'll use my super clamp to fix the light to a nearby structure, in our case a railing! Of course a super clamp isn't going to work in every location but it did work for us! Advantages of a super clamp # There weren't any trip hazards from the lighting stand. # The super clamp is small and light enough to fit in your camera bag # With the right structure nearby you can postion your lights directly above the model so you don't need a boom arm # A super clamp is a must if you're shooting in woodland Disadvantages # You need a structure to fix the super clamp to Please let me know in the comments if you liked this video and please don't forget to follow us on social media! https://www.instagram.com/eliz_abeth__ https://www.instagram.com/philjonesphotography You can buy a super clamp online or from your local photographic supplier for around £20-£25 I recommend the Manfrotto 035, check it out from the link below https://www.manfrotto.co.uk/super-photo-clamp-without-stud-aluminium Styling: As Elizabeth says, "Aussie girls like to wear their watch face, down under." Find 32 more videos at http://www.AssignmentConstruct.com . Transcript of this video: Hi, I'm John Harrington and we're going to break out and break down the wide variety of equipment we use to deliver images to our clients. Next we are going to show you one of the equipment kits we use when we are traveling on assignment. Each kit is different and has a very specific purpose. So lets take a look. Whatever lighting we travel with, we need stands and accessories. From a floor stand to other stands, to very small stands, super clamps, spring clamps, mini-tripods, Blackwrap. Everything that we need is here in this case. In addition to that, we also keep in here when we're traveling, our remotes kit. This is full of Pocket Wizards; we'll talk more about those in a little bit. One of the nice things about these Bogen stands is that they're interlocking, which means two stands are much more compact than if they were just stands that were strewed about. When you're traveling, making sure that things stay together, stay tight is absolutely critical. These things pop together, and they connect back together, and they lock together. So we have the small version, and the large version. We have another floor stand, this thing allows us to get a light down very near to the ground, springs all the way out and it's a low stand. Very similar to this one, this one just has a little bit more stability. All of it compacts up very nicely and neatly. This is another small stand that works really well on the backgrounds, behind the subject, if we are trying to put a light there. Also, our grid spots are right here. These grid spots fit nicely and neatly into the various reflectors that we have depending on the density. The key is to make sure that when they're in the traveling case that they travel very carefully and very securely because it's really easy to damage the inner honeycomb of the grid. There are separate kits, where we can store spring clamps. This is a scissor clamp, the great thing about a scissor clamp is it allows you to widen these out, put these up onto a suspended ceiling a drop ceiling in an office building, and then bring it together, bring it taught and spin it tight. And then it's not going to separate. And you can actually hang a light from a drop ceiling in an office building. We have mini-clamps; these clamps work really well. They're Matthellini clamps. They clamp onto things and we can clip onto them with our lights. It's important on these spring clamps, wherever possible, that you use a safety wire. This safety wire makes sure that if the head were to drop off this for some reason, it wouldn't fall onto the subject. Again, everything is compartmentalized and separated out op that we can grab just what we need, when we need it. We have a super clamp. It's all separated out here. We have some more spring clamps, some extra power, and some little adapters. We carry a Hollywood knuckle or Hollywood head, call it knuckles but it's a Hollywood head. Again it's important that we have our name and contact information and the number on it. In addition, there's a Bogen arm flex fill holder that lets us hold the Amvona reflector, or a light disk reflector, so that we can make the adjustments to it. It's got a nice little pinch here, a little rubber grip that will grip on to the edge of that material and hold it. This mounts on the top of any of the stands we're using, and let's us make a number of adjustments to it. It's important that you take advantage of things like this center clip here, the center strap because the center strap gives that inner case more rigidity. Because when it's sealed up, you don't want the case going anywhere it's not supposed to be going. And that's our stand case.

Converted an old video tripod as light stand for lighting. The only item I needed was a spigot from Manfrotto. The model is Manfrotto 119. I used the tripod head instead of taking it out, just to prevent damaging the thread in the tripod legs. I rather have the screw in the tripod head plate damaged since they are easily replaceable. The video tripod is heavy, so it will handle heavier load. It is more stable than most light stand. Unfortunately, it will only go up to around 6 feet height. I can put a boom with super clamp threaded on the tripod head, if I need an additional height.

I was using my iPhone 7+ with Filmic Pro and a Shure MV88 Lightning microphone, so sorry for the less than optimal video and sound. Done is better than perfect. My new studio upgrades are based on some Avenger C-Stands & Manfrotto Magic Arms and a bunch of other stuff. What I really like about it is how sturdy it is, and how it gets out of the way compared to a bunch of light stands and tripods that I used to have, and really allows for a nice overhead position on the secondary camera. The Magic Arms allows for a lot of flexibility for turning the lights around so the laminate flooring can double as a surface for product shots, slider shots, etc. Visit our Site: http://www.twobitdavinci.com Socials: @TwoBitDaVinci You can Help Support Two Bit da Vinci by following our affiliate links. Either there are some basic design flaws with the Magic Arm from Manfrotto or I'm using it wrong or there are some extra connectors that I need to make it work for me. A little frustrating to be honest because this kit is pretty expensive! OK, I've just used the contact form on their website and pointed them to this video - lets see what solutions they come up with :) UPDATE: Great reply from Manfrotto (very impressed) with some good ideas to try: Dear Mr Pond, Thank you for contacting us regarding your Manfrotto clamp, magic arm and flex arm. I have watched your video and the first thing I would suggest is to find a different mounting point for your camera. It is dangerous to attach anything that could be knocked or dislodged into the path of the spokes of a cycle. I say this as a keen cyclist and a trained cycle mechanic as well as a GoPro user. Safety briefing over let's take a look at the products in question. The 244 is a lighting product designed to fit between a studio light and a lighting stand. As such it has the standard fittings for these products, a 16mm spigot. Within this context it is clearly fit for purpose. If it had a hex fitting it simply would not work for its intended purpose. It can fit a super clamp as well and these are often used to mount lights in cramped spaces. The super clamp has a hex fitting as well to enable use of those Manfrotto products that can designed to utilise it, the 237 you have and the 208HEX for example. The 244 is not specifically intended to fit the 143BKT and as your video indicated it does not fit it very well. A light on a stand will not be subject to the vibration something attached to a cycle frame would be of course and this is where your issue is coming from. Having said all that many people press the magic arm into service for other things however suitability needs to be assessed by the user as the variety of things they use it for goes beyond anything we could legislate for. We do a camera version, intended to mount a small camera on a lighting support which is the 244RC. If you want to use a magic arm for a camera this is the one to go for but again bear in mind it is not intended to be "vibration proof". I can see why you want to mount your GoPro where you have, it's a good angle but as I said I could not recommend anyone mount anything as you have and I would not allow anyone to leave my workshop with such an attachment on their cycle. Personally I use a GoPro chesty mount on my bike and when I'm paragliding or Kayaking. Granted the angle is not as dynamic as yours but it provides a good view of the road and wearing it on my body dampens the vibration to make an easier to watch video. I have also tried a 386 nano clamp and an 814-1 hyrostatic arm on handle bars and briefly on my seat post but do not find them to my liking and having tried have safety concerns about the seat post option as well. Although small part of the issue is hanging the weight of the camera at the end of an arm which acts as a leaver under vibration. Anything that "sticks out" even a little is going to amplify the vibration which will result in a juddery video or eventual failure of the mount or both of course. When you look at the GoPro promotional videos those on a cycle have the camera very close to the frame or handle bars for this reason whereas with the air sports and to a degree water and motor sports the camera can be moved out to varying degrees as vibration is either absent or dampened by a vehicles suspension. I trust you will find this information of interest but please feel free to contact us again should you require further assistance. Kind regards Ed

In this video I show the unboxing of the Manfrotto 035RL and demonstrate the setup of it with the Manfrotto AutoPole 2. Read my full review of the Manfrotto 035RL Super Clamp: https://goo.gl/v4m4r4 Here are several links to purchase this item online: https://amzn.to/2MbEGrq (Amazon US) https://amzn.to/2Ky8cmt (Amazon UK) https://amzn.to/2vPQchR (Amazon Deutschland) https://amzn.to/2U5cvvq (Amazon France) https://amzn.to/2nlzIdy (Amazon Canada) https://amzn.to/2AON1Nu (Amazon Italy) https://amzn.to/2KD6cZX (Amazon España) The brand: Manfrotto The model: Manfrotto 035RL Super Clamp with 2908 Standard Stud The pros: - Made from a solid aluminum – I mention that, because I’ve read some other super clamps aren’t made from metal, or the type of metal is not as durable as this one (I will be able to confirm it once I get to try other models by different manufacturers). - Solid grip - So far, I hung over it several types of equipment (mostly LED lights), and it held all of them firmly. The max. weight limit for this clamp is 15 kg, according to the manufacturer. - The clamp is padded from the inside, so when it surrounds the Manfrotto Autopole 2 that I’ve attached it to, it doesn’t scratch the Autopole. - Since this is a large clamp, it should fit almost everything. The cons: - The stud that I’ve purchased with the clamp and is connected to it, shows marks from the screw of the items I attached to it. I thought that since it’s a metal stud, and not a cheap one, it will not show any scratches or marks. But so far, at least it didn’t bend inward, like a cheap aluminum stud. - There are cheaper super clamps sold out there - You can settle for the cheaper alternatives for some types of equipment **** FAQ : **** Q: What is the max. loading weight for each super-clamp? A: According to the manufacturer, the max. loading weight is 15 kg (so far, I didn't try to take it to the limit and see if it can cope with a higher weight). Q: What is the jaw opening range? A: 0.5 - 2.1 " / 1.3 - 5.3 cm Here is a link to the user manual of this item: https://goo.gl/zLWCd5 Here is the description of the item: Manfrotto 035RL Super Clamp with 2908 Standard Stud For further questions about this video please comment about this video and I will do my best to answer you. http://click-on-this-for-more.info/MAGIC-ARM-Clamp Photography lighting, Foget the softbox lighting... It's all about the supporting players "LIGHTING ACCESSORIES!!!" Lighting clamps, Lighting Stand, Lighting off-set-arms, Low Boys, Light Mounts, Extension arms, Lighting booms the list goes on, so forget the "What Light" questions... for now and lets think about "What accessories", Because light is as much about problem solving (shooting in a cramped location...) as it is about creativity and Whilst lighting accessories will enable you as the cameraman to be more creative than Just using Lighting stands alone Accessories can and will get you out of a fix, So in this video I show you "Must Have" Accessory number one The Magic Arm. http://click-on-this-for-more.info/MAGIC-ARM-Clamp

We are out at the SKB case factory again and today on The Slanted Lens, I am going to show you how to shoot an industrial image without destroying your equipment. We are shooting in a spray booth where they blast the case molds with BBs to give the metal enough texture to allow a newly formed case to be easily extracted. I want to get a shot of the spray machine in action, but that means that my lights and camera will be in there when all the BBs are flying around. The first thing to do in a situation like this is to get an idea of what is going to happen when the machine is running. I wanted to find this out before I brought my equipment in and put it in harm’s way. The operator put on thick gloves and a big helmet/mask that reminded me of something Jules Verne would have written about. I got a hard hat and safety glasses. To protect my new Dynalite Baja B4s, Lars got some 1’x1’ pieces of plexiglass and taped one on the front of each light. He taped up all the vents and wrapped each light in a plastic bag. I was worried the lights might overheat but they did not. I placed the first light from behind to back light the BBs and act as a rim light on the operator. The second light will be the key light and in this small space, we had to get creative on the placement. Using a super clamp, I clamped a Monfrotto Magic Arm into it’s jaws. Then, I took a head from a C-stand and tightened the end that goes onto the stand to the spud on the super clamp. The light attached to the Magic Arm and the C-stand head attached to an L-bracket that was sticking out from the ceiling. The key light will have a 40 degree grid to prevent light from spilling all over the booth. I attached another one of the plexiglass squares to a C-stand to protect myself and the camera. I am shooting at 160 ISO, f7.1 and a 1/100 shutter on my Canon 5D Mark III. The images from this shoot turned out really well. I could only stay in the booth for short amounts of time though because the BBs were going everywhere – hitting me from every direction, going down my shirt, getting in my shoes. Hope this inspires you to take new and unique photos now that you know how to protect the equipment. Keep those cameras rollin’ and keep on clickin’. Don't forget to head over to http://theslantedlens.com for more photography lessons, tutorials and more. Subscribe to TSL so you never miss a video.

I review the Flashpoint 10' C (Century) Light Stand on Turtle Base Kit w/40" Grip Arm & 2 Gobo Heads and Baby Pin - Chrome - from adorama - https://www.adorama.com/fplsc.html For $199 shipped this is a bargain for a sturdy C Stand. The quality control is not up to Matthews or Avenger standards but for the money it might just be good enough for most heavy-duty light stand work.
