My next challenge is to compete in a non drug tested NPC event in the (Classic Physique) division to see how I rank. I am 5'11.5 and currently weigh between 205-210 depending on the day. Social media will show you a lot of great physiques, we tend to compare ourselves a lot. the question is, are we giving ourselves a FAIR comparison. If you are new into bodybuilding, and have no clue how far your body can go NATURALLY, Look at me so that you may do so. I workout EXTREMELY HARD, Do fasted cardio DAILY, I drink Gin all the time, and I have a regular job. I also compete as a hobby. What's actually possible? For beginners forget about it you're navigating through a sea of infinite bullshit that makes it almost impossible to be able to tell how much muscle you can build as a natural lifter. In the public View when a bodybuilder or someone that's trying to build muscle takes steroids they lose points for effort. Even though any unnatural bodybuilder might have worked very hard to get to where they're at, steroids are still looked at as cheating by the general public. For that reason in an effort to look more credible to the public you have a bunch of bodybuilders that are on steroids that swear that they are steroid free and achieved their physique naturally. Unfortunately there's no 100% accurate way to be able to determine who achieved their physique naturally and who achieve their physique with steroids. Or is there? I mean with some bodybuilders it's clearly obvious no matter how much they claim that they never took steroids you could tell these people were on steroids at least at some point. But with many people you just can't tell and I think that this is a very important thing for you to determine cause it's the only way that you're going to be able to set realistic goals and expectations in regard to building muscle mass. If we're setting goals and expectations that can only be achieved with drugs and we're not taking those drugs then we're going to end up being disappointed because our measurement of success is flawed. Well luckily there is a way that we can figure out what's possible while being a hundred percent natural and the only real way to do that is by going back in the past. To be sure that we're looking at a physique that was built naturally we have to look back to a point in time in which steroids weren't even around. Steroids weren't developed until a little under a hundred years ago. It wasn't until the late nineteen-thirties that steroids were developed, so we have to assume that any bodybuilder that we have records of before the 1930s had a natural physique. Eugene Sandow was one of these bodybuilders. He was born in 1867 and became known as the first natural bodybuilder and is now known as the father of modern bodybuilding. At only 5 feet and 9 inches tall Sandow weighed over 200lbs, had a 48" chest only a 30" waist and had 18 1/2" biceps. That's impressive for someone that you know had no possible access to steroids. Edward aston was another strongman of the 1920's and he had a one arm clean and press of 243lbs and had an excellent physique with clear visible blocky abs. Another strongman and boxer of the time was Charles Atlas. He was 5'10" weighed 180 pounds and had 17 inch biceps. And the last Iron man of this age that I'm going to mention today is George Hackenschmidt. This guy looked a lot like modern day bodybuilders and he did it all naturally. Measurements of his upper arm where estimated to be anywhere between 18 to 19 and a half inches. Those are some big arms for a natural bodybuilder. So all these guys achieved some pretty amazing results for being completely natural. This was also during a Time in which not much was known about bodybuilding. These people didn't know how to set up a bulking program they didn't know how to set up their Macros, they probably didn't even know about macros. They didn't have access to the abundance and variety of food that we have access to today. They grew up in a time where very little was known about nutrition and fat was demonized and believed to be the cause of weight gain. They didn't have a local GNC or Vitamin Shoppe, yet they all got outstanding results in a time that we know steroids weren't around. So based on this it's pretty obvious that today with all the abundance of information available on bodybuilding and the availability of over the counter creatine, protein powders, and access to supermarkets stocked with all the food you'll need... it's pretty obvious that you can get really far as a natural lifter. The strongmen that i used in the examples today were just a few of the many successful natural bodybuilders in an era before steroids. A holistic definition of fitness is described by Greg Glassman in the CrossFit journal as an increased work capacity across broad times and modal domains; mastery of several attributes of fitness including strength, endurance, power, speed, balance and coordination and being able to improve the amount of work done in a given time with any of these domains. A well rounded fitness program will improve a person in all aspects of fitness, rather than one, such as only cardio/respiratory endurance or only weight training. A comprehensive fitness program tailored to an individual typically focuses on one or more specific skills, and on age- or health-related needs such as bone health. Many sources also cite mental, social and emotional health as an important part of overall fitness. This is often presented in textbooks as a triangle made up of three points, which represent physical, emotional, and mental fitness. Physical fitness can also prevent or treat many chronic health conditions brought on by unhealthy lifestyle or aging. Working out can also help some people sleep better and possibly alleviate some mood disorders in certain individuals. Developing research has demonstrated that many of the benefits of exercise are mediated through the role of skeletal muscle as an endocrine organ. That is, contracting muscles release multiple substances known as myokines which promote the growth of new tissue, tissue repair, and various anti-inflammatory functions, which in turn reduce the risk of developing various inflammatory diseases. I was always extremely small growing up as you could tell from the video, I am what most people would consider an "ectomorph". Back in the day, I did believe in these typical body types, but now not so much anymore. I went from being skinny to shredded or jacked whatever you want to call it. My body transformation mainly started because of zyzz. I know he wasn't natural, but that wasn't how he inspired/motivated me. It was how he became something so much more out of the sport of body building and how aesthetics, in general, was created. My insane transformation wasn't just from zyzz though, it was also from Jeff Seid, John Skywalker, and David Laid. I did many things such as bro splits, powerlifting, German volume training, all of that got me this insane before and after I am able to show you guys today. In just 1 year, I saw such a change in my body, and that's what made me want to keep going towards this life style of bodybuilding. I quit playing sports and just dedicated my time and effort to lifting. My goals are really to just keep on building up my aesthetics and hopefully I'll be able to train along side my idols one day and be able to make my fitness dream a reality. Whether your goal is to lose weight tone up or build muscle this simple task will really help you get a better understanding of where your body is at right now and how to move towards your desired body type. There are those that claim that there are no body types and that everything is measured by hard work at the gym and in the kitchen and having been a trainer for over 10 years I can tell you and that's complete nonsense. And this is proven by science it is true that nobody should be obese however everybody does have their own weight set point people store fat in different places some people store more fat in their stomach area, other people store it more in their thighs, in the chest, and we also have different shapes to our muscle bellies, different lengths different thicknesses, different lagging muscle groups. The point is people really do come in all different shapes and sizes again this doesn't mean that you should be obese but it does mean that we can identify the shape or size that you're at by certain characteristics & apply certain training principles that have proven over time to work to move you towards your desired body shape. Okay so let's start with the test the way that this test works is I'm going to ask you a series of questions & your going to answer a b or c & either write down your answer or remember it because the letter that you answer with most often will help you identify what your body type is by the end of this test. Its a simple test & I'm sure you'll be surprised with the results. First question, do fitted jeans generally feel a. snug, but not too tight around your butt b. loose around your butt or c. tight around your butt. Pick the description that best fits your body Second question, if you wrap your hand around your wrist does your middle finger & your thumb a. just barely touch b. overlap or c. they don't touch. Next question would you characterize yourself as having a. a natural v shaped body b. a naturally very lean skinny long frame, or c. a naturally wide heavy frame. The fourth question requires a measuring tape so if you want to come back to it & leave it blank you can, but I highly recommend you do this one because it's very accurate. Is your chest measurement a. between 37 & 44 inches b. under 37 inches or c. greater than 44 inches? When you get to a measuring tape seriously do this one. The fifth question is how would you rate your metabolism a. fast, but you don't have a problem building muscle, b. so fast that it makes it difficult to put on muscle, or c. slow. Next question In relation to gaining weight its a. easy to gain muscle, but you don't typically gain too much fat. You may even see some ab definition while bukling b. you have trouble gaining muscle & gaining fat, in fact if you finally do gain a couple pounds your body fights to return you to your normal weight or are you more of a c. where its easy for you to put on muscle, but its also very easy for you to store fat especially around your midsection & love handles. Question number seven does your upper body resemble an a. upside down triangle, b. a rectangle that's vertically long & horizontally narrow or c. a square or round shape.two more questions. do you have an a. narrow rib cage thinner than your wider collar bones b. a narrow rib cage as narrow as your narrow collar bones & your narrow hips or c. a thick blocky rib cage as thick as your collar bones & your thick hips. And last question which body type do you look like in the mirror. a.b.or cIf you've answered a. to the majority of the questions you are at the mesomorph stage right now meaning you have a v-taper appearance. If you answered b to the majority of the questions then you are an ectomorph with more of a narrow lanky body, & if you answered c then you are an endomorph with wider thicker body. Now before I go any further I want to say that you are not stuck in your body type. That kind of thinking leads to people giving up & not working as hard at making the necessary changes to change your body type. And then it becomes a self fufilling prophecy. I don't care if you're the hardest gainer in the world, you can eat enough & drink enough soda if that's what it takes to spike your insulin to have you gain some weight. You may always struggle with building more muscle mass
