SQL: Extract function

03:38
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to make use of extract function. PL/SQL (Procedural Language/Structured Query Language) is Oracle Corporation's procedural extension for SQL and the Oracle relational database. PL/SQL is available in Oracle Database (since version 7), TimesTen in-memory database (since version 11.2.1), and IBM DB2 (since version 9.7).[1] Oracle Corporation usually extends PL/SQL functionality with each successive release of the Oracle Database. PL/SQL includes procedural language elements such as conditions and loops. It allows declaration of constants and variables, procedures and functions, types and variables of those types, and triggers. It can handle exceptions (runtime errors). Arrays are supported involving the use of PL/SQL collections. Implementations from version 8 of Oracle Database onwards have included features associated with object-orientation. One can create PL/SQL units such as procedures, functions, packages, types, and triggers, which are stored in the database for reuse by applications that use any of the Oracle Database programmatic interfaces. PL/SQL works analogously to the embedded procedural languages associated with other relational databases. For example, Sybase ASE and Microsoft SQL Server have Transact-SQL, PostgreSQL has PL/pgSQL (which emulates PL/SQL to an extent), and IBM DB2 includes SQL Procedural Language,[2] which conforms to the ISO SQL’s SQL/PSM standard. The designers of PL/SQL modeled its syntax on that of Ada. Both Ada and PL/SQL have Pascal as a common ancestor, and so PL/SQL also resembles Pascal in several aspects. However, the structure of a PL/SQL package does not resemble the basic Object Pascal program structure as implemented by a Borland Delphi or Free Pascal unit. Programmers can define public and private global data-types, constants and static variables in a PL/SQL package.[3] PL/SQL also allows for the definition of classes and instantiating these as objects in PL/SQL code. This resembles usage in object-oriented programming languages like Object Pascal, C++ and Java. PL/SQL refers to a class as an "Abstract Data Type" (ADT) or "User Defined Type" (UDT), and defines it as an Oracle SQL data-type as opposed to a PL/SQL user-defined type, allowing its use in both the Oracle SQL Engine and the Oracle PL/SQL engine. The constructor and methods of an Abstract Data Type are written in PL/SQL. The resulting Abstract Data Type can operate as an object class in PL/SQL. Such objects can also persist as column values in Oracle database tables. PL/SQL is fundamentally distinct from Transact-SQL, despite superficial similarities. Porting code from one to the other usually involves non-trivial work, not only due to the differences in the feature sets of the two languages,[4] but also due to the very significant differences in the way Oracle and SQL Server deal with concurrency and locking. There are software tools available that claim to facilitate porting including Oracle Translation Scratch Editor,[5] CEITON MSSQL/Oracle Compiler [6] and SwisSQL.[7] The StepSqlite product is a PL/SQL compiler for the popular small database SQLite. PL/SQL Program Unit A PL/SQL program unit is one of the following: PL/SQL anonymous block, procedure, function, package specification, package body, trigger, type specification, type body, library. Program units are the PL/SQL source code that is compiled, developed and ultimately executed on the database. The basic unit of a PL/SQL source program is the block, which groups together related declarations and statements. A PL/SQL block is defined by the keywords DECLARE, BEGIN, EXCEPTION, and END. These keywords divide the block into a declarative part, an executable part, and an exception-handling part. The declaration section is optional and may be used to define and initialize constants and variables. If a variable is not initialized then it defaults to NULL value. The optional exception-handling part is used to handle run time errors. Only the executable part is required. A block can have a label. Package Packages are groups of conceptually linked functions, procedures, variables, PL/SQL table and record TYPE statements, constants, cursors etc. The use of packages promotes re-use of code. Packages are composed of the package specification and an optional package body. The specification is the interface to the application; it declares the types, variables, constants, exceptions, cursors, and subprograms available. The body fully defines cursors and subprograms, and so implements the specification. Two advantages of packages are: Modular approach, encapsulation/hiding of business logic, security, performance improvement, re-usability. They support object-oriented programming features like function overloading and encapsulation. Using package variables one can declare session level (scoped) variables, since variables declared in the package specification have a session scope.

Oracle Database11g tutorials 13 || SQL substr function / SQL substring function

link of SQL substr blog : http://www.rebellionrider.com/SQL-substr-function.htm SQL substr function SQL Substr function will return a sub string of a specified length from the source string beginning at a given position. Tool used in this tutorial is command prompt. This tutorial series is part of SQL expert exam certification training. if you are preparing for SQL certification you can use my tutorials. This SQL Tutorial is a part of free training. Copy Cloud referral link || Use this link to join copy cloud and get 20GB of free storage https://copy.com?r=j7eYO7 Contacts E-Mail [email protected] Twitter https://twitter.com/rebellionrider Instagram http://instagram.com/rebellionrider Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/imthebhardwaj Linkedin. http://in.linkedin.com/in/mannbhardwaj/ Thanks for linking, commenting, sharing and watching more of our videos This is Manish from RebellionRider.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- As the name suggests SQL Substr function will return substring from a given source string. Let's see the Syntax Substr (source_string, start_pos, Substr_length) As we can see SQL substr function takes 3 parameters. First one is Source string from which you want to extract the segment. Second parameter is Starting position for sub string from the Source string. And the third parameter is Substr_length which is the length for the substring. First two parameters are mandatory to specify while third one is optional. So we can say. SQL Substr function will return a sub string of a specified length from the source string beginning at a given position. First parameter source string can be of any data type CHAR, VARCHAR2, NCHAR, NVARCHAR2, CLOB, or NCLOB whereas both start_pos, Substr_length parameters must be number data type. The returning result of SQL Substr function is of same data type of source string. Let's see an example of SQL Substr function. SELECT substr('www.RebellionRider.com',5,14) FROM dual; Here in this query url of my website www.RebellionRider.com is our source string with the total length of 22 characters, Now, I want to extract the name of my website that is, RebellionRider. So if you count the total length of the name of the website, it is 14. That's why I have specified 14 as my third parameter of SQL Substr function which is substr_length. Also the name of the website RebellionRider is starting from 5th position therefore I have specified 5 at second parameter of SQL substr function which is strt_pos or starting position. Execute it. Here is our result RebellionRider When starting position is larger than the length of source string. In this case SQL Substr function will return NULL as a result. Let's do an example. SELECT substr('www.RebellionRider.com',23,14) FROM dual; As you can see here I have specified 23 at starting position and the total length of our source string is 22 characters Let's execute And the result is Null. Second scenario When the Substr_length is greater than source string In this case the segment return is the substring from starting position to the end of the string. For example SELECT substr('www.RebellionRider.com',5,23) FROM dual; Our starting position is at 5 means at the first R of RebellionRider and length of substring is set to 23 which is greater than the length of source string that is 22. Execute. As you can see we get a substring from first R of RebellionRider till the end of the source String. Third scenario When you supply numeric or arithmetic expression or a DATE instead of character as Source string to SQL Substr function In this scenario If you have supplied a numeric string instead of character as source string, the oracle engine casts them as a character when they occur as parameter to SQL Substr function. And if you have supplied Arithmetic expression or a DATE then The Oracle engine first solves or evaluates the Arithmetic expression or the DATE Then casts them as a character. Means if you have arithmetic expression in your source string then oracle will first solve it and then change or say cast the value of its result into character. Let's see some example. SELECT substr(50000-7,2,4) FROM dual; Oracle first evaluates the arithmetic expression that is 50000-7 equals to 49993. And then oracle engine casts this result 49993 into a character string. Means 49993 will be a 5 characters string. Starting position of substring is 2, that means from the first 9 of 49993 We specified the length of substring is 4 so we must get 9993 as our result. Let's check execute

Extract Data From PDF - Docparser Screencast #1

03:37
Docparser is a web-based software that allows you to extract data from PDF documents and convert them into easy-to-handle structured data. https://docparser.com/blog/extract-data-from-pdf/ In this screencast we will cover the basics and show you how to get started with Docparser. In other screencasts, we cover specific use-cases, show you how to download your parsed data and leverage our cloud integrations to fully automate your workflow. Creating your free trial account is as quick as clicking the “Start Free Trial” button & populating the signup information. Now we create our 1st Document Parser. Choose the category that's the closest match to the document type you are converting. In this screencast we will create a Document Parser for a simple PDF form. Our other screencasts cover how to extract data from popular document types, such as invoices, purchase orders and standardized contracts. You will then be prompted to upload a few sample documents which are used as blueprints for setting up our parsing rules. Simply navigate to the files, or drag and drop. Docparser also provides the option to email files to your parser, import documents using our API, or automatically fetch them from cloud storage platforms such as Box, Google Drive & DropBox. More on this use case in future videos. Once your sample documents are uploaded, it’s time to create parsing rules for our document layout. A parsing rule is basically a set of instructions which tell our algorithms how to extract and format your data. Typically, you will create one parsing rule for every data field you want to extract. Based on the document category you chose in the first step, Docparser suggests a couple of popular parsing rule presets. In our case we are seeing parsing rule presets related to PDF form processing. Docparser offers parsing rule presets for all kinds of use-cases. Those presets allow you to extract any kind of data from fixed or variable positions in your document. We will now create our first parsing rule to extract data from PDF form fields. Just select the preset, draw a rectangle around the position where the form answer is located and confirm. You are now presented with the text data located at the position you defined in the previous step. You can choose to add additional text filters to further process the extracted text data. We will skip this step and continue creating more parsing rules. Our next parsing rule uses a pre-built filter which automatically identifies, extracts and formats dates. Just draw a rectangle around the approximate location of your date and confirm. As you can see, Docparser was able to isolate the date and already presents it in a standardized format. Again, should you need to further filter or format the data, you could do so by chaining up multiple text and table filters. That’s it, we just created two parsing rules which extract text from a fixed position and a date from an approximate location inside the document. We are now leaving the parsing rule editor to view our parsed data. Our parsing rules are working as expected and we see two extracted data fields for each document. With just a few easy steps we created our first Document Parser capable of batch converting PDF documents into structured data. Stay tuned for more videos where we will build parsers for specific use-cases, show you how to download your parsed data and leverage our cloud integrations to fully automate your workflow.

Oracle DUMP Function

03:04
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-dump/ The Oracle DUMP function tells you the data type of an expression you specify. Specifically, this function returns a string that explains what type of data it is, along with the length, and an internal representation. The syntax of the DUMP function is: DUMP ( expression [, return_format] [, start_position] [, length] ) The parameters of this function are: - expression: this is the expression that will be looked at and will have information displayed from this function. It can be a column or any other kind of expression. - return_format: this is the format of the data to return. - start_position: this is the starting position of the expression to return the internal representation for. Does not impact the data type shown. - length: this is the length from the start_position that the internal representation of the expression is shown for. The DUMP function returns a VARCHAR2 data type. For more information about the Oracle DUMP function, including all of the SQL shown in this video and the examples, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-dump/

Importing Data from Excel into Oracle Database using SQL Developer 4.1

02:23
One of SQL Developer’s most popular features has undergone a significant upgrade. Users can quickly define and recall delimited or Excel files to be imported to a new or existing Oracle table. Data preview and validation is provided for each column, as well as ‘best guess’ data type and date format mask mapping. This process can now be automated via the SQL Developer command line interface (SDCLI) ‘Import’ command. NOTE: This is a video only. There is no audio. Copyright © 2015 Oracle and/or its affiliates. Oracle SQL MERGE Statement

07:52
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-merge-sql/ In this video, we’ll learn what the Oracle MERGE statement does and how you can use it. What is the MERGE statement? It’s a statement that lets you either insert or update data in a table - all in a single statement! It’s helpful if you’re using an ETL (Extract Transform Load) process when creating or updating a data warehouse. It’s also helpful when loading data into your own database if you’re not creating a data warehouse. It allows you to prevent duplicate data and ensure you have up-to-date data in your table. The syntax looks like this: MERGE INTO table_name USING table_name ON (condition) WHEN MATCHED THEN update_clause DELETE where_clause WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN insert_clause [LOG ERRORS log_errors_clause reject_limit integer | unlimited ] In this video, I also show an Oracle SQL MERGE statement example, so watch the video to find out more. For more information on the MERGE statement and how you can use it in your queries, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-merge-sql/

There are several ways of finding the nth highest salary. By the end of this video, we will be able to answer all the following questions as well. How to find nth highest salary in SQL Server using a Sub-Query How to find nth highest salary in SQL Server using a CTE How to find the 2nd, 3rd or 15th highest salary Let's use the following Employees table for this demo Use the following script to create Employees table Create table Employees ( ID int primary key identity, FirstName nvarchar(50), LastName nvarchar(50), Gender nvarchar(50), Salary int ) GO Insert into Employees values ('Ben', 'Hoskins', 'Male', 70000) Insert into Employees values ('Mark', 'Hastings', 'Male', 60000) Insert into Employees values ('Steve', 'Pound', 'Male', 45000) Insert into Employees values ('Ben', 'Hoskins', 'Male', 70000) Insert into Employees values ('Philip', 'Hastings', 'Male', 45000) Insert into Employees values ('Mary', 'Lambeth', 'Female', 30000) Insert into Employees values ('Valarie', 'Vikings', 'Female', 35000) Insert into Employees values ('John', 'Stanmore', 'Male', 80000) GO To find the highest salary it is straight forward. We can simply use the Max() function as shown below. Select Max(Salary) from Employees To get the second highest salary use a sub query along with Max() function as shown below. Select Max(Salary) from Employees where Salary [ (Select Max(Salary) from Employees) To find nth highest salary using Sub-Query SELECT TOP 1 SALARY FROM ( SELECT DISTINCT TOP N SALARY FROM EMPLOYEES ORDER BY SALARY DESC ) RESULT ORDER BY SALARY To find nth highest salary using CTE WITH RESULT AS ( SELECT SALARY, DENSE_RANK() OVER (ORDER BY SALARY DESC) AS DENSERANK FROM EMPLOYEES ) SELECT TOP 1 SALARY FROM RESULT WHERE DENSERANK = N To find 2nd highest salary we can use any of the above queries. Simple replace N with 2. Similarly, to find 3rd highest salary, simple replace N with 3. Please Note: On many of the websites, you may have seen that, the following query can be used to get the nth highest salary. The below query will only work if there are no duplicates. WITH RESULT AS ( SELECT SALARY, ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY SALARY DESC) AS ROWNUMBER FROM EMPLOYEES ) SELECT SALARY FROM RESULT WHERE ROWNUMBER = 3

We discussed DATE, CAST & CONVERT functions in Parts 25 to 28 in our SQL Server Tutorial. After watching this video you should be able to answer any sql date interview questions similar to the following. Write a SQL query to get 1. All people who are born on a given date (For example, 9th October 2017) 2. All people who are born between 2 given dates (For example, all people born between Nov 1, 2017 and Dec 31, 2017) 3. All people who are born on the same day and month excluding the year (For example, 9th October) 4. All people who are born yesterday, today, tomorrow, last seven days, and next 7 days 5. All people whose birth year is the same (For example, all people born in 2017, 2018 etc.) Once you are comfortable answering these questions you can extend the concepts you have learned to answer similar questions like the following. 1. Orders placed between 2 given dates or on a given day, month, year etc. 2. Customers gained or lost. 3. Employees joined or left etc.

Read from (SELECT) Database table - SQLite3 with Python 3 part 3

11:20
In the previous tutorials, we've covered creating a database and populating one, now we need to learn how to read from the database. Reading from a database is where the power of using something like SQLite over a flat file starts to make sense. While we can query the entire table, we can instead just query a single column, or even based on specific row values. Let's see what I mean sample code and text tutorial: https://pythonprogramming.net/sqlite-part-3-reading-database-python/ Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQVvvaa0QuDezJh0sC5CqXLKZTSKU1YNo https://pythonprogramming.net https://twitter.com/sentdex https://www.facebook.com/pythonprogramming.net/ https://plus.google.com/+sentdex

Quickstart: Getting Started with Oracle and .NET

08:56
New to Oracle and .NET development? This video gives you everything you need to know to get up and running quickly! We walk you through downloading and installing the needed Oracle software and then connecting in Visual Studio and creating a simple C# application. The video starts at the Oracle .NET Developer Technology Center website at http://otn.oracle.com/dotnet We then download the "ODTwithODAC" package, extract it and run the installer. Note that ODAC version 12 works with Oracle Database versions 10.2 or higher. After installing we connect in Server Explorer and learn about the connection dialog features, including the Filters tab which by default filters out additional schemas you may have privileges on. We connect to the database using the easy to use EZ connect format. Finally we create a simple C# application and connect to the database using ODP.NET Managed driver and a EZ Config connect string. Prerequisites: 1) Visual Studio 2012 or 2013 -- any edition except Express Edition. Visual Studio Community Edition is supported. 2) An Oracle Database to connect to. You will need to know the hostname, port number and service name of the database. During the video we install: Oracle Data Provider for .NET Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio Oracle .NET Samples Oracle .NET Documentation
Pandas SQL - How to read data from a microsoft sql database

05:42
Reading data into pandas from a sql server database is very important. If you plan on working for a company you HAVE TO know how to use Pandas and SQL. This video will show you how. What is Pandas? A Python data analysis library Most big companies either use Microsoft or Oracle for their RDBMS (relational database management system). There are others like mysql but if you learn these two, you should be covered in most cases. This video will concentrate on getting data out of a Microsoft database. We first connect to sql server and then open the database called BizIntel. This is where you will find a table called "data". Note this is all made up data created for the purposes of this tutorial. The table contains three columns: Date, Symbol, and Volume This table simulates stock prices and their volume on a specific date. We then turn to the Jupyter notebook and start to import SQL specific Python libraries like PyODBC. We then proceed with explaining code on how to connect to your local mssql (microsoft sql server) instance via Pandas and PyODBC. This is how we go to pandas from sql. We finally generate the sql statement for pandas and read in the data. This is a very basic example and we did not have to supply the odbc connection any passwords. We also did not have to worry about changing any of the datatypes of our dataframe as they were imported into pandas without any issues. Excel: How to Best Import External Data into Excel & Import data from the Web to Excel

11:16
Get the full course: https://courses.xelplus.com Excel has various tools that can help you easily clean up your raw data for further analysis. Apart from using formulas and formatting, there are two useful Excel features that let you easily clean up. One method is text to columns feature and the other to import external data. The Get External Data tool can be used to import and analyse data from other systems. This tool is also useful for importing data to run your dashboards or do further analysis using pivot tables, etc. Usually you can get data extracts from any system (e.g. “.dat” or “.csv” from Oracle, “.xml” files from SAP, etc.). These can be imported into Excel. Importing External Data also gives you control over the decimals and thousand separator, especially if you’re dealing with international companies. In the US, the decimal is dot and the comma is a thousand separator and in most European countries it’s the other way round, where the comma is a decimal and the dot a thousand separator. It’s always safest to Import it properly with the Excel Data Import wizard! After importing press Ctrl + T to create a table out of it. You can create a pivot table off this one, and when you do, even if you add more data to it, the pivot reflects the new data. Importing Data from the Web / Internet into Excel – creating web queries that refresh automatically: In Excel you can also import data directly from the web. You basically create a web query which you set to refresh automatically based on your preference. ★ My Online Excel Courses ► https://courses.xelplus.com/ ✉ Subscribe & get my TOP 10 Excel formulas e-book for free https://www.xelplus.com/free-ebook/ EXCEL RESOURCES I Recommend: https://www.xelplus.com/resources/
