How to Add Custom Fonts in WordPress Manually and Using a Plugin

06:58
Are you looking to customize the font on your WordPress site to make its design exactly how you like? Not all themes have a built in method to edit the font of your site and you may be looking to change this. In this video, we will show you how to add custom fonts to your WordPress site. Font Pair website: https://fontpair.co For selecting the fonts to use on your site you can use the Font Pair website for what would work well together and then you can visit the Google Fonts website at: https://fonts.google.com Select the fonts you want to add and there should be a new section at the bottom of the page where you can see the fonts you selected to add to your WordPress site. Expand that area and ensure you are under the Embed section for the correct code that you will need to add to your header. For adding the code you would want to use the plugin Insert Headers and Footers found here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/insert-headers-and-footers/ Under Settings, Insert Headers and Footers you will add the first set of code to add the fonts to your site. With that added and saved you will want to go under Appearance, Customize, Additional CSS and there you would be able to add the second code which lets the font be visible to you and your visitors. A second method would be using the Easy Google Fonts plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/easy-google-fonts/ The plugin will add a new section under Appearance, Typography and there you will be able to select the font to use for each style location. We would still recommend only two fonts to prevent confusing your users. Our third method for this would be the plugin Typekit Fonts for WordPress: https://wordpress.org/plugins/typekit-fonts-for-wordpress/ With that plugin, you would be able to select fonts from the Typekit website, add the ID from the popup, and select where you want the custom font for your WordPress site to appear in your Appearance, Customize, Additional CSS section. How to Change the Font Size in WordPress (3 Different Options)

03:39
Are you wanting to change the font size on your WordPress posts and pages? Not all themes have a simple built-in method for changing the size of text but we have taught many people the way to change this. In this video, we will show you how to change the font size in WordPress. The simplest step would be to use the header tags which are styled by the theme you are using. By highlighting specific text, clicking the dropdown, and selecting the style you want your theme will customize it to be that specified font size. Every theme is unique so depending on the theme would determine how the text will look. A second method would be to install and activate the TinyMCE advanced plugin found here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/tinymce-advanced/ Once you activate the plugin go under Settings, TinyMCE Advanced to customize the editor's settings. You will see the TinyMCE Editor and be able to add or remove extra buttons but for this, we want the font family and font size added to the editor. This will allow you to choose how large the text should be as well as how it should be styled. The third method requires a little knowledge of CSS as we will be walking through how to manually edit the code for your site for your font size. You will go under Appearance, Customize, Additional CSS to get to the built-in editor. Target what you want to add a change to, for paragraphs, it's normally p. If you do not know what to target you can find out using inspect element, we have an article on how to use inspect element below: http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/basics-of-inspect-element-with-your-wordpress-site/ Text version of this tutorial http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-change-the-font-size-in-wordpress If you liked this video, then please Like and consider subscribing to our channel for more WordPress videos. BBPress Wordpress Tutorial - Set up a Forum in Wordpress using bbPress plugin

16:45
Grab Your Free 17-Point WordPress Pre-Launch PDF Checklist: http://vid.io/xqRL BBPress Wordpress Tutorial - Set up a Forum in Wordpress using bbPress plugin https://youtu.be/BmtFh-pb7F8 Link to bbPress shortcodes in the bbPress codex: https://codex.bbpress.org/features/shortcodes/ Download your exclusive 10-Point WP Security Checklist: http://bit.ly/10point-wordpress-hardening-checklist bbPress is a powerful WordPress forum plugin. You can make your entire site the forum or just add a forum to your existing site using shortcodes. The first step getting up and running with bbPress is to install the plugin. To install this plugin please log into your WordPress dashboard, hover over Plugins and then click on Add New. On the next page type "bbPress" into the search bar. The plugin we want should be the first one in the top left. Click on the Install Now button and then click Activate after it's installed. You will now see new items in your admin side menu: Forum, Topics, and Replies. Within those menu items is where all the posted content of your forum will be. First things first, let's create a forum. Click on the Forums link and then click on Add New. Create as many forums as you want. You can create parent-child relationships between forums to keep things organized. Once you've created the forums we have to create a place for them to live, this is where the bbpress short codes come in. Here is the bbPress Shortcode page link again: https://codex.bbpress.org/features/shortcodes/ On that page you'll find this shortcode: [bbp-forum-index] Create a new page and paste that short code into it. Publish and view the page. You will now see a list of all the forums you created a moment ago. The CSS styling may not be nice, but you can easily fix that with CSS. There are many themes that bbPress styles already in their main stylesheets because bbPress is such a popular plugin. There are even dedicated bbPress themes. Now that you have forums ready to rock and roll, you'll want to create the ability for people to register an account and login once they create an account. The easiest way to do this is to use the login widget created by bbPress. However, if you are adding a bbPress form to an existing site you'll probably want to make it so the login widget appears ONLY on bbPress pages. For that we need to install another plugin. To install this plugin please log into your WordPress dashboard, hover over Plugins and then click on Add New. On the next page type "bbPress WP Tweaks" into the search bar. The plugin we want should be the first one in the top left. Click on the Install Now button and then click Activate after it's installed. Now go to Appearance, then Widgets in the WordPress admin. You'll now see a dedicated bbPress widget area (sidebar). Now drag and drop the bbPress widget into the new bbPress sidebar. You'll see that there are fields for the Registration page and the Forgot Password page. We'll have to create those, but don't worry, it's easy. For the Registration create a new page and paste this shortcode into it: [bbp-register] For the forgot password page, create a new page and paste this shortcode into it: [bbp-lost-pass] Paste those links into the widget and save it. Now go to your forum and refresh the page. You'll see the sidebar appear, but it will show you as logged in. To see how new users would see the sidebar, either log out of your site or open a different browser and go to your forum. Now you'll see a login form with Register and Forgot Password links below it. If you're happy with that widget, you're all done. You should create an account on your forum and play around with it a bit to see how it works. Easy Google Fonts Plugin Makes It Easy To Add Google Fonts To Your WordPress Site | WP Learning Lab Grab Your Free 17-Point WordPress Pre-Launch PDF Checklist: http://vid.io/xqRL Easy Google Fonts is a simple plugin that allows you to add Google Fonts to any text on your website quickly, easily and without code. You can even add the Google Fonts API to instantly have access to new fonts as they're released. The get started first you need to install the plugin. To install this plugin please log into your WordPress dashboard, hover over Plugins and then click on Add New. On the next page type "easy Google fonts" into the search bar. The plugin we want should be the first one in the top left. Click on the Install Now button and then click Activate after it's installed. A new menu item called Google fonts has been created in the Settings menu. On the first page that loads is where you set the 'target' for the fonts. In the Control Name field enter a descriptive name for the font target that makes sense to you. Then click on the Create Font Control button. Now a new input field will appear. In that field you input the CSS selectors that this font control will apply to. Common examples of how to set this up would be Heading 1 as the control name, then h1 as the selector. Or Heading 2 as the control name, then h2 as the selector. Or Paragraph as the control name, then p as the selector. You get the idea. Once you have a font control created you can head over the Appearance, then Customise to start applying the fonts. Once in the WordPress customizer you can click on Typography, then click on Theme Typography. You will then see the control group or groups you created. Click on the Edit Font link below the Control Name. Now you can make changes to the font. If the page you're using the customizer on has the appropriate css selectors then you will see live updates as you make changes to the font settings. The font settings included: - All of the Google fonts available - Font weight - Text decoration - Text transform Clicking over to the appearance tab you can set colors for the font and the background. The Position tab allows you to define the alignment of the text. Pretty easy stuff. Once you're happy with the results you can click on Save and Publish. How To Edit WordPress Theme CSS Styles

08:53
http://wordpresspowersites.org/how-to-edit-wordpress-theme-css-styles/ How To Edit WordPress Theme CSS Styles As a web developer, I frequently wrangle with codes. one of such is building and customizing WordPress Themes. Am a big fan of WordPress Genesis framework, i do use it to build amazing WordPress themes. I also install and further customize their child themes to suite my style. If you really want to know, my blog is using the Genesis Focus Theme. I have seen quite a number of WordPress users making CSS changes inside the wordpress theme template core stylesheet. I do wonder, what if something goes wrong, how do you revert back to the initial design? Some will say, they do make backup of their theme before making any changes to the CSS. i see that as a pain in the ass. Reasons You Shouldn't Alter Your WordPress Theme CSS stylesheet Damage Of Theme -- Not everyone has the habit of always backing up files before editing. If for example, you made a change to your theme style sheet, and after previewing, you didn't like the output, you may have difficulty changing or reverting the changes. Mind you, CTRL-Z won't work 'cos the browser was loaded when you saved the changes, therefore, you can't undo the change. Keep Theme Design Even After Update -- If you make changes to your theme files, all your customization will be lost if you update the theme to the latest version. If you follow the best practice rule below, you may still have your site customization even after an update only if the update didn't change the CSS ids and classes of the theme. but the customization can be lost if it was a major theme update like from version 1.5 to maybe 2.0 It can speed up theme customization time. For those of us using WordPress theme framework like Genesis, Thesis, e.t.c that develop themes as child themes of their framework, it is advisable you don't make any changes to the CSS style sheet. rather Get either the CSS ID, class or both controlling the design of the theme and add either an Internal Style Sheet or External Style Sheet below the theme external stylesheet. NOTE -- adding the new stylesheet you want to overwrite the theme CSS must not be above the default WordPress CSS stylesheet else it won't have an effect. More on WordPress Theme CSS Practice ALTERNATIVELY There are plugins that can save you of the above stress. all you need do is, place the CSS you want to over-rule in the specified plugin textarea, save and preview the output. Some of this custom WordPress custom CSS plugins include: Jetpack Custom -- If you are new to WordPress or even if you are a Pro, i advice you install and use Jetpack my Automattic(founder of WordPress). one of the feature that come with it is the Custom CSS. i personally use it to make CSS changes to my theme. to use this jetpack feature, you have to install Jetpack plugin. PC Custom CSS -- This plugin provides an easy and effective way to use your own custom CSS code with any theme. it a top-notch plugin when it comes to adding custom CSS. saying from my experience using it. WP Live CSS Editor -- A CSS live Editor that allows you to edit, preview changes and save all your project's CSS stylesheets live in the browser. My Custom CSS -- With this plugin you can put custom css code without edit your theme and/or your plugins (really useful in case of any theme/plugin update). Live CSS Preview -- This plugin adds a textarea to the new Customize page that allows theme editors to write, preview & implement css code in real-time. Best Custom CSS -- This plugin help you to manage your css files with an easy and convenient method directly from WordPress dashboard. Custom CSS Manager -- Simple plugin to manage Custom CSS Code to change the appearance of your WordPress website. This Plugin stores the CSS Code in the WordPress Options Database. Your Custom CSS -- Add your own CSS to your WordPress Backend and Frontend. Custom Post Type Template - Create One To To Customize Designs

Custom Post Type Template - Create One To To Customize Designs https://youtu.be/qkQliLkXH20 Grab your free 17-Point WordPress Pre-Launch PDF Checklist: http://vid.io/xqRL Download your exclusive 10-Point WP Security Checklist: http://bit.ly/10point-wordpress-hardening-checklist What is a WordPress custom post type template? To answer that, let’s first start with the two post types built into WordPress: posts and pages. Posts are for blog posts and usually display on the front end along with a publication date, an author, comment count, and tags and categories. Pages on the other hand, display without any of that extra information. How post and pages display on the front end is the post type template. A custom post type template then is similar to posts and pages in that it displays content in the front end, but you as the creator of the custom post type can define what information the post editor collects and how it’s displayed on the front end for your visitors. This will make more sense as you go through this tutorial. All of the extra information that WordPress posts display is called post metadata. Creating custom post types templates is a two-step process. Create the custom post type in WordPress (with or without a plugin) Create the page template that displays the custom post type content to visitors This tutorial will show you step 2, how to assign a template to the custom post type that displays when that post type is viewed by a visitor. You will need to complete step 1 before you can do this tutorial. If you need to do step 1, here’s a video tutorial for creating a custom post type without a plugin. For those of you who prefer plugins, here’s a video tutorial for creating a custom post type by using a plugin. When you’ve completed one of those two tutorials come back to this tutorial and learn how to assign a specific WordPress custom post type template to the custom post type. Find The Custom Post Type Name The process starts in the dashboard. We need to find the name of our custom post type. For instance, I have a custom post type named Products in the left-side admin menu. When I click on the Products custom post type and the URL will change to this: wp-phd.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=wpll_product Yours will look similar. The post_type is a URL parameter and wpll_product is the value of that parameter. The value is what we need for creating our WordPress custom post type template. Here are some visual examples for clarity. The value for this example is wpll_product. The value for this example is music. Once you know the name of the custom post type, go to your hosting cPanel and open the file manager. Inside the file manager navigate to wp-content, then themes, then find your active theme, and open it. In my example, I’m using a child theme. In the child theme folder I don’t have the template files for pages or posts. The default WordPress template file for pages is always pages.php and for posts is always single.php. Because I don’t want to work with a blank canvas, I’m going to the parent theme folder and copy the single.php file into my child theme (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebGrw1h6Hog&list=PLlgSvQqMfii6X3D9S4mwM_inUYv8gq564). To do that go into the parent theme folder, find the single.php file and right click on it. In the context menu that appears click on copy. In the dialog box that opens enter the path to the child theme folder and click copy file(s). Now, go back to the child theme folder. Find the single.php that you just copied there and right-click on it. From the context menu that appears click rename. The name of the single.php has to be single-*name of your custom post type*.php. In the first case, the name is wpll_product. So the file name for this example would be: single-wpll_product.php Now any page that is created in the Product custom post type will use this template to display its’ content. This might seem a little confusing at first, this video on the WordPress hierarchy (https://youtu.be/6W4Mx8lilz0) should help you wrap your head around how WordPress loads files.
