Globally Harmonized System (GHS) Training Video -- Safety Data Sheets (SDS) - Top Ten Things to know. OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) - 29CFR1910.120 - requires chemical manufacturers, distributors, or importers to provide Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) (formerly known as Material Safety Data Sheets or MSDSs) to communicate the hazards of hazardous chemical products. Safety Data Sheets can be easily downloaded via the Internet. Search for them under the name of the product or the product type. Although all SDSs are now required to be standardized and showing information under 16 different sections, there are ten things you should immediately look for to familiarize yourself with the chemicals in the product you are using, no matter where you are using them. This video highlights the ten things you should know right away before using any chemical product in the workplace, but it goes double for home safety. Even simple household products can contain potentially hazardous chemicals. Use the Safety Data Sheets to find information necessary to protect yourself, your co-workers and your family. Always follow all label warnings, cautions and instructions. We regularly post new videos on workplace and household safety. Material safety data sheet

12:47
A material safety data sheet (MSDS), safety data sheet (SDS), or product safety data sheet (PSDS) is an important component of product stewardship and occupational safety and health. It is intended to provide workers and emergency personnel with procedures for handling or working with that substance in a safe manner, and includes information such as physical data (melting point, boiling point, flash point, etc.), toxicity, health effects, first aid, reactivity, storage, disposal, protective equipment, and spill-handling procedures. MSDS formats can vary from source to source within a country depending on national requirements. SDSs are a widely used system for cataloging information on chemicals, chemical compounds, and chemical mixtures. SDS information may include instructions for the safe use and potential hazards associated with a particular material or product. These data sheets can be found anywhere where chemicals are being used. This video is targeted to blind users. Safety Data Sheet (SDS)

01:58
Safety is an extremely important topic when handling chemicals: Even at the early stage of ordering the chemicals, it is essential to inform yourself about hazardous properties and characteristics of the product. A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) describes the product hazards and explains how a product can be handled, used, and stored safely. Safety in the laboratory does not depend on modern facilities: Even simple means can contribute to a safer working environment.

Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) for Hazardous Chemicals

05:03
In 2012, the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) (29 CFR 1910.1200(g)) was revised to require that chemical manufacturers, distributors or importers provide Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) (formerly MSDSs or Material Safety Data Sheets) to communicate the hazards of hazardous chemical products. The standard requires that as of June 2015, Safety Data Sheets be presented in a consistent user-friendly, 16-section format. To provide guidance to help workers who handle hazardous chemicals to become familiar with the format and understand the various sections, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) provides the following descriptions: • Section 1: Identification - Identification includes product identifier; manufacturer or distributor name, address, phone number; emergency phone number; recommended use; restrictions on use. • Section 2: Hazard(s) Identification - Hazard(s) identification includes all hazards regarding the chemical; required label elements. • Section 3: Composition/Information on Ingredients - Composition/information on ingredients includes information on chemical ingredients; trade secret claims. • Section 4: First-Aid Measures - First-aid measures includes important symptoms/effects, acute, delayed; required treatment. • Section 5: Fire-Fighting Measures - Fire-fighting measures lists suitable extinguishing techniques, equipment; chemical hazards from fire. • Section 6: Accidental Release Measures - Accidental release measures lists emergency procedures; protective equipment; proper methods of containment and cleanup. • Section 7: Handling and Storage - Handling and storage lists precautions for safe handling and storage, including incompatibilities. • Section 8: Exposure Controls/Personal Protection - Exposure controls/personal protection lists OSHA’s Permissible Exposure Limits (PELs); ACGIH Threshold Limit Values (TLVs); and any other exposure limit used or recommended by the chemical manufacturer, importer, or employer preparing the SDS where available as well as appropriate engineering controls; personal protective equipment (PPE). • Section 9: Physical and Chemical Properties - Physical and chemical properties lists the chemical's characteristics. • Section 10: Stability and Reactivity - Stability and reactivity lists chemical stability and possibility of hazardous reactions. • Section 11: Toxicology Information - Toxicological information includes routes of exposure; related symptoms, acute and chronic effects; numerical measures of toxicity. • Section 12: Ecological Information • Section 13: Disposal Considerations • Section 14: Transport Information • Section 15: Regulatory Information • Section 16: Other Information - Other information includes the date of preparation or last revision. Employers must ensure that SDSs are readily accessible to employees for all hazardous chemicals in their workplace. These are just a few things to know about Safety Data Sheets, to learn more about this or industrial hygiene and environmental testing and consulting services for many of the chemicals that are required to have Safety Data Sheets, please visit the websites shown below. Chemical Hazards: Globally Harmonized System (GHS) Training Video -- OSHA HazCom Standard

16:23
Globally Harmonized System (GHS) Training Video -- GHS Intro & Changes to OSHA HazCom Standard You may show this video on Youtube to students, employees and co-workers in order to provide them with the required introduction to the GHS and to train them on the changes that are being made to the HazCom Standard. OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) is now aligned with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). The GHS is a system for standardizing and harmonizing the classification and labelling of chemicals. It is a logical and comprehensive approach to: ◾Defining health, physical and environmental hazards of chemicals; ◾Creating classification processes that use available data on chemicals for comparison with the defined hazard criteria; and ◾Communicating hazard information, as well as protective measures, on labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS). The GHS covers all hazardous chemicals. There are no complete exemptions from the scope of the GHS for a particular type of chemical or product. The term "chemical" is used broadly to include substances, products, mixtures, preparations, or any other terms that may be used by existing systems. The goal of the GHS is to identify the intrinsic hazards of chemical substances and mixtures and to convey hazard information about these hazards. The GHS is not intended to harmonize risk assessment procedures or risk management decisions, as described above. Instant Cold Pack - The Chemicals Inside - Product Breakdown

03:40
See how Instant Cold Packs work! I turn one inside out to show you the parts / ingredients to explain the reaction that creates instant ice-like conditions. In the process several questions are answered: 1. Can you make your own instant ice packs? 2. How do instant ice packs work? 3. What is inside these ice packs? 4. What are the safety considerations? Hint - Warning: chemicals inside (handle with caution). For this type of project or anything similar I highly encourage you to look up safety information about products and their ingredients before you begin to open them up, tear them apart, or try to make your own. A good starting point is to find Safety Data Sheets (SDS) or Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for the brand of product and then also for the specific ingredients. In this video you see the volume of Ammonium Nitrate inside a cold pack as well as some images from the MSDS that points out some of the warnings / risks. Always wear protective gear. NEVER consume the contents! Music (Mirrorball, Traveling Man): http://www.purple-planet.com

Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) - Laboratory Safety Training

02:27
Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) - Laboratory Safety Training Program http://safety.1800inet.com/product.php/name/material_safety_data_sheets_in_the_laboratory_video/products_id/3865 All hazardous materials entering a laboratory must have a Material Safety Data Sheet or MSDS. However, the information in an MSDS can be hard to read and understand without training or education. To understand and to use of this information properly, laboratory employees must be trained to read an MSDS. They need to understand how the data is organized and what the data means. Material Safety Data Sheets in the Laboratory is a training program that covers the various sections of the MSDS, what information can be found in each section and importantly, how this information can help employees work safely in the laboratory. This training program is a part the Laboratory Safety Training Series - View all: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3meJDc3qlLxJSU0Mkah1Xqi4SohnxmPo&feature=view_all
European Regulation on Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP)

05:09
We are changing the labelling of our products from the end of 2013. The change is required by all EU Member States to meet the European regulation on classification, labelling and packaging (CLP) of substances and mixtures. The CLP Regulation ensures that the hazards posed by certain chemicals are clearly explained to workers and consumers in the EU through clear classification and labelling. The legislation will bring the EU into line with the United Nations' Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). In time, this worldwide standard will replace the old European labelling systems. Labels (and safety data sheets) will look different in future but this does not necessarily reflect a change in the composition or performance of -- your tried and tested Standox products.

Safety data sheet | Wikipedia audio article

19:43
This is an audio version of the Wikipedia Article: Safety data sheet Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago. Learning by listening is a great way to: - increases imagination and understanding - improves your listening skills - improves your own spoken accent - learn while on the move - reduce eye strain Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone. You can find other Wikipedia audio articles too at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuKfABj2eGyjH3ntPxp4YeQ In case you don't find one that you were looking for, put a comment. This video uses Google TTS en-US-Standard-D voice. SUMMARY ======= A safety data sheet (SDS), material safety data sheet (MSDS), or product safety data sheet (PSDS) is a document that lists information relating to occupational safety and health for the use of various substances. SDSs are a widely used system for cataloging information on chemicals, chemical compounds, and chemical mixtures. SDS information may include instructions for the safe use and potential hazards associated with a particular material or product, along with spill-handling procedures. SDS formats can vary from source to source within a country depending on national requirements. A SDS for a substance is not primarily intended for use by the general consumer, focusing instead on the hazards of working with the material in an occupational setting. There is also a duty to properly label substances on the basis of physico-chemical, health or environmental risk. Labels can include hazard symbols such as the European Union standard symbols. The same product (e.g. paints sold under identical brand names by the same company) can have different formulations in different countries. The formulation and hazard of a product using a generic name may vary between manufacturers in the same country.

Managing Safety Data Sheets in the 21st Century

38:11
OSHA requires that dental offices maintain up-to-date Safety Data Sheets (SDS), formerly known as Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). These must be in a location that ensures they are readily available for all employees in the office. This requirement falls under a set of OSHA regulations called the Hazard Communication Standard, and is often referred to as the “Right-to-Know”. This is not a new Standard, however, in 2012, OSHA passed new requirements that directly impact dental offices. Manufacturers are now required to provide SDS to users of products containing chemicals. The Safety Data Sheet meets the requirements of the new Globally Harmonized System (GHS) and is intended to make it easier for the user to easily understand the SDS, which has been standardized globally. Manufacturers were given until June 1st, 2015, to comply and update their existing MSDS to the SDS format. Employees in dental offices must be able to access and understand the SDS and must be provided training on reading and understanding SDS. Video K3 Tentang MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet)

03:30

Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs) on Material Safety Data Sheets

05:43
In this short 5-min. video, Dean Calhoun of Affygility Solutions, discusses occupational exposure limits, or OELs, on material safety data sheets (MSDS) - what numbers should you trust? Often on material safety data sheets for active pharmaceutical ingredients, the author of the msds will either state "No available" or "Not regulated" for the occupational exposure limit for the active pharmaceutical ingredient. In addition, sometimes the author may use the particles not otherwise regulated (PNOR) limit of 5 mg/m3. With many active pharmaceutical ingredients that are potent, this can present some serious occupational exposure issues. Watch the video and find out more. We also discuss the availability of oel monographs through Affygility Solutions' new innovative online service called OEL Fastrac. Check it out at http://oelfastrac.com.
