Explore punk fashion around the world - from New York, California, London and Germany to Iran, Myanmar, Cuba, South Africa, Russia, and Japan. Punk fashion in the 70s pushed against cultural norms, embracing the androgyny of rockers like Patti Smith. Malcolm McLaren brought New York punk style back to London. Geometric shapes were incorporated into makeup for a striking look. When I, a shameless millennial, think of punk fashion, images of models and rock stars in the '80s and '90s immediately flood my mind. You know what I'm talking about: Courtney Love's signature smoky eyes, slip dresses and grungy outwear, Gwen Stefani's staple plaid pants and bandeau tops, the myriad of leather jackets, studded belts, and ubiquitous shades of black worn by all the rockers in that era. Sure, it's easy enough to conjure images of what punk fashion looked like during that time — partly because so many of the styles have made a comeback in recent years — though not everyone is as familiar with what inspired the timeless sartorial trend to begin with. For instance, did you know that in the '70s, punk fashion was first influenced by the androgynous styles of rockers like Patti Smith and Joan Jett? And was then brought to London, redefined in Germany, adapted in Iran, amplified in Japan, and so on. In Germany, punk evolved into German New Wave, with fluorescent hair color and dramatic makeup. Iranian punk took the classic London punk aesthetic and found ways to adapt it within their religion and culture, incorporating long sleeves and creatively integrating the hijab. A small community in Myanmar stayed underground during decades of military rule. The Cuban punks known as Los Frikis were outcasts, often homeless. Their rejection of society led to early incarnations of the crust punk aesthetic. South Africa's burgeoning punk scene was influenced by hardcore punk's pared down attitude. Pussy Riot brought protest punk to the forefront of Russia's music scene in the 2010s. Harajuku punk took on the London aesthetic and amplified the fashion. These videos are to show how much a music genre CHANGES in mainstream society. Also, if you feel like I left someone out... I probably did. I am only one person. Please enjoy!

An unintentionally hilarious look at so-called 'Punk Fashion' (obviously from a fashion designer interpretation) and a demonstration of 'Punk Dancing' from Canadian TV circa 1977. This clip is from 'Boogie' which was a late 1970s TV show that focused on the disco scene. It was aired on City-TV, an independent Toronto station.

Music video by Ethan 103 performing Punk Rock Fashion Police. Copyright 2016. “Punk Rock Fashion Police” proves itself as a statement song in every measure as an anti-anti punk song revealing the hypocrisy built into the unwritten rules of punk fashion “standards” by people within the scene. First and foremost, the song calls out punk rockers who contradict themselves. “Punk Rock Fashion Police” also speaks to the fashion industry’s tendency to cycle in and out of punk as a trendy theme expressed through stereotypical punk rock attire. When such creations turn up in designers’ magazine spreads and on runways in New York City, Paris, London and Milan, the appropriation diminishes punk’s classic conceits of politics, individualism and progressive thinking, drawing attention away from the messages punk rock aspires to convey. Neither do the exorbitant price tags on the clothing mesh with the punk rock ethos. Ethan 103 wants you to get the memo that all of this is bullshit. That memo is “Punk Rock Fashion Police.” Download: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/punk-rock-fashion-police-single/id1111288389 Download Radio Edit: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/punk-rock-fashion-police-radio/id1111288683 Website: http://ethan103.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ethan103music/ Directed by: Negro Tarantino of TXN Productions. Few genres have had the lasting impact of punk. 1976 is one of those seismic dividing lines in popular music. A history destroying year zero. The point after which everything changed. It was the year that The Ramones debut was released, the year that the first singles from the UK Punk scene were set loose upon a unprepared public. And while the punks wanted to remove themselves from the past, burn all that had come before, nothing happens within a vacuum. These bands didn't appear out of nowhere with the key principles of the genre locked in place. This innovative minimalist, three-chords and the truth, turbo-powered music had to have precedent. There were other artists that lead up to this era-defining moment in music that are either forgotten, ignored or not given credit. This is how Punk became punk. This video delves in everything from "Louie Louie", "Rumble" and "Surfin Bird", through The Sonics "Psycho", "Sister Ray" by Velvet Underground, "Kick Out The Jams" by The MC5, "I Wanna Be Your Dog" by The Stooges onto the what became the standard for punk rock: "Gloria" by Patti Smith, "Blitzkrieg Bop" by the Ramones and "Anarchy in the UK" by Sex Pistols. #PunkRock #Video Essay #MusicDocumentary Soundtrack BATBXY - all i have. Hey guys, today I am talking about punk-rock fashion history legend 'Dame Vivienne Westwood.' I have discussed all the important parts of the Vivienne Westwood timeline. From when she met Malcolm Mclaren to the opening of 'Let It Rock,' At 430 kings road, Chelsea London. Which was later changed to 'too fast to live, too young to die' and then to 'sex' and then to the 'seditionaries' and then finally 'world's end.' I also talk briefly about the sex pistols and their role in the story as well as some iconic shows such as her pirate themed show as well as the infamous show in which we saw Naomi Campbell take a gracious tumble.
