Amazing wrecks of Red Sea: Diving Thistlegorm (Part 1)

13:12
This is Part I of "Diving Thistlegorm" videos. During this dive we explored the cargo rooms and the bow of SS Thistlegorm. SS Thistlegorm sunk on October 6th, 1941 at 1:39AM. Ship dimensions are: length: 126.50 meters (415 feet), breadth: 17.70 meters (58 feet), and draft: 7.45 meters (24.5 feet). History: The SS Thistlegorm was built by in Sunderland, England and launched in April 1940. The ship was powered by a triple expansion steam engine rated to 365 hp (272 KW). The ship was classified as an armed freighter, being armed with a 4.7-inch (120mm) anti-aircraft gun and a heavy calibre machine gun attached after construction to the stern of the ship. The final voyage started from Glasgow on 2 June 1941 destined for Alexandria, Egypt. The vessel's cargo included: Bedford trucks, Universal Carrier armoured vehicles, Norton 16H and BSA motorcycles, Bren guns, cases of ammunition, and 0.303 rifles as well as radio equipment, Wellington boots, aircraft parts, and two LMS Stanier Class 8F steam locomotives. During September 1941 and German Intelligence, Abwehr, suspected that there was a troop carrier in the area bringing in additional troops. Two Heinkel He-111 aircraft were dispatched from Crete to find and destroy the troop carrier. This search failed but one of the bombers discovered the vessels moored in Safe Anchorage F. Targeting the largest ship they dropped two bombs on the Thistlegorm both of which struck hold 4 near the stern of the ship at 0130 on 6 October. The bomb and the explosion of some of the ammunition stored in hold 4 led to the sinking of the Thistlegorm with the loss of four sailors and five members of the Royal Navy gun crew. In the early fifties Jacques-Yves Cousteau discovered her by using information from local fishermen. He raised several items from the wreck, including a motorcycle, the Captain's safe, and the ship's bell. (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Thistlegorm) Location: N 27° 48,849' E 33° 55,222'

Amazing 'Best Ever' Dive on the SS Thistlegorm Wreck, Sha'ab Ali, Red Sea - August 2015

04:36
Afternoon, night and morning dive on the legendary Thistlegorm shipwreck. Bombed and sunk by the Germans on the 6th October 1941, this 131m long incredible wreck has become one of the top 5 diving sites in the world for scuba divers. The wreck boasts cargo of train locomotives and their tenders, motorcycles, Bedford trucks, aeroplane parts, wellington boots, rifles, and is now home to an array of Red Sea marine life. The ships propeller, and anti-aircraft guns are an impressive sight that never fail to impress. This was my 4th time of diving the Thistlegorm, and dives number 198, 199, and 200. Needless to say I will be back again and again... Great trip on the MY Mistral liveaboard - thanks Scuba Travel!!!

Scuba Diving the Giannis D ship wreck in the Red Sea, Egypt

08:39
Scuba Diving the Giannis D ship wreck in the Red Sea, Egypt. Sha'ab Abu Nuhas, North of Hurghada - October 2008. The Giannis D sank with its cargo of timber in 1983 and lies next to a coral reef. The entire wreck can be seen from either end because of good the visibility. It is broken up in the Center, but the bow and stern remain intact. At the stern on the sea floor there is a point where penetration allows you to travel up towards the top of the wreck to a pocket of trapped air. You will need to leave by the same hole which you entered. At the bow you can see where the boat had been renamed, with the old name just visible under a layer of paint. Expect to see glassfish, scorpionfish, angelfish, bumphead wrasse and a napoleon fish. The dive can be finished by traversing the reef, or by climbing up the mast, which rises up to only four metres below the surface. Alex's Travel Blog - http://www.alexasigno.co.uk

Diving on wreck of SS Thistlegorm, Sharm Al-Sheikh, Egypt...

19:43
The SS Thistlegorm was a British armed Merchant Navy ship built in 1940. She was sunk on 6 October 1941 near Ras Muhammad in the Red Sea and is now a well known diving site. During World War II, two German Heinkel He 111 aircraft of II Staffeln, dropped two bombs on the Thistlegorm. The bomb and the explosion of some of the ammunition stored in hold 4 led to the sinking of the Thistlegorm with the loss of four sailors and five members of the Royal Navy gun crew. Most of the cargo remained within the ship, the major exception being the steam locomotives from the deck cargo which were blown off to either side of the wreck.

Eilat, Israel - The Satil Wreck - GoPro I'm back with another wreck freediving video! UPDATE NEW WRECK DIVE HERE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRPm1Jnoptw Location: Eilat, Israel Dive Site: Satil Wreck Ship Type: Israeli Guided Missile Boat Depth:18m to 26m Diving in Eilat was everything I had expected it to be! I dived this wreck 4 times on different days, but 90% of the video is from the final day which dived on a full moon at full high tide so it was a couple extra meters deeper than usual, but the water was clear! I can definitely recommend diving in Eilat to everyone, scuba or freediving. Not often can you find such a high quality wreck as a shore dive. And there is no spearfishing or any fishing at all, so you can see some huge fish staking out their territory. Want to see more from behind the scenes? Scuba Diving the Carnatic ship wreck in the Red Sea, Egypt

08:41
Scuba Diving the Carnatic ship wreck in the Red Sea, Egypt. Sha'ab Abu Nuhas, North of Hurghada - October 2008. The Carnatic is a beautiful 19th Century wreck that lies on Sha'ab Abu Nuhas Reef. Its shallow depth means that it is accessible to all levels of diver and all levels will appreciate it as a great wreck dive. Despite the length of time the Carnatic has been on the seabed (it sank in 1869) it is remarkably intact. The majority of your dive can be done along the outside of the wreck past giant moray eels and other Red Sea reef fish that have made this wreck their home. In the holds you can see the remains of broken bottles and there are shoals of glass fish inhabiting them. Penetration into the holds is easy for any level of diver. To finish the dive you can head back along Sha'ab Abu Nuhas reef where you will be able to find many different types of coral and fish before ascending. (Best Of Wrecks). Date of arrival 6/1/17 (My birthday, YAY!). The Barge Wreck (night dive) 2010 Red Sea

04:12
filmed may 2010 The Gubal Barge is a small open black hull some 35m long, now collapsed in places, with dark dusty sand in its bottom. It is frequented by most of the Egyptian liveaboard boats making the northern itinerary runs, either from Sharm el Sheikh or Hurghada. It is believed to be a vessel sunk during the Arab-Israeli war, and rests on a gradually sloping coral garden, in 15m of water and famed for night dives, the last dive of the day. At a constant depth of 15m, Nitrox gas is best as the no-decompression limits can be reached quickly without thinking! The barge is located on the south side of Big Gubal Island, north of Hurghada, were fishing and liveaboard boats moor up for the night in this sheltered spot. It is an anomaly, just a shell of wreckage with nothing else around except a coral garden that has seen better days; it shouldn't exist as a superb dive site but does. This is in the main due to its location, right where boats moor. These boats like to throw biological waste over the side and have done so for many years, hence the scavengers. You could say that the local fishing & diving communities have a symbiotic relationship with the marine creatures below. These creatures decide to stick around to be photographed and gawked at if they are occasionally thrown titbits. The marine life is wild and not deliberately fed, but coincidental.
