Ep009 Stormy Sailing in the Mediterranean: Big Seas & Gale Force Winds
March 2017 Out of season sailing in the Mediterranean can mean big seas and gale force winds... We sail from Gibralter to Calpe, Mediterranean Spain, experiencing both of the above along with discovering some beautiful anchorages along the way. (sorry about the shaky camera work and wind noise...it was very windy and our camera is a bit crap!) Check out our blog for more information on what it's really like to live on a boat, great anchorages we've found, recipes from the Galley and more... https://sailingsvborabora.wordpress.com/ Also find us on: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/sailingsvborabora/ Instagram https://www.instagram.com/sailing_borabora/ Music: Adventures by A Himitsu https://soundcloud.com/a-himitsu Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported— CC BY 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b... Mediterranean-Climate Ecosystems: Oceans and Mediterranean Climate
(Visit: http://www.uctv.tv/prime) The climate of Mediterranean Climate Ecosystems is largely driven by different processes in nearby coastal oceans. Atmospheric processes over the oceans influence seasonal rainfall patterns, while currents and ocean temperatures affect both local and regional climate conditions - understanding these are key to understanding Mediterranean-type ecosystems. EGU GIFT2017: Tectonics of the Mediterranean Sea and subduction of the African plate
Geosciences Information For Teachers workshop presentation by Laurent Jolivet (Université d’Orléans, Paris, France) at the 2017 General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union. The 2017 GIFT Workshop, egu.eu/9VRX6F, was titled The Mediterranean. (Credit: EGU/Luca Mariani, www.lucamariani.me) The EGU Committee on Education has organised Geosciences Information For Teachers (GIFT, http://www.egu.eu/education/gift/) Workshops since 2003. These are two-and-a-half-day teacher enhancement workshops held in conjunction with EGU's annual General Assembly. There, selected top-level scientists working in the Earth Sciences offer the invited teachers talks centered on a different theme every year. The main objective of the GIFT workshops is to spread first-hand scientific information to science teachers of primary and secondary schools, significantly shortening the time between discovery and textbook, and to provide the teachers with material that can be directly transported to the classroom. In addition, the full immersion of science teachers in a truly scientific context (EGU General Assemblies) and the direct contact with world-leading geoscientists are expected to stimulate curiosity towards scientific research that the teachers then transmit to their pupils. The use of GIFT videos is allowed exclusively for educational purposes.
Mediterranean mooring problems in Poros
We are moored in Poros, and next to us is a free berth. People are trying to med-moor into it, but the wind is tricky. The third boat that attempts it succeeded. DISCLAIMER: this video is not about criticizing the ones involved. It’s about understanding what went wrong and what could’ve been done to avoid problems in my eyes. SCARED FOR MY LIFE! Sailing at 22 knots boat speed down HUGE waves (Sailing La Vagabonde) Ep. 105
Yep, La Vagabonde reached 22.7 knots boat speed. We couldn’t believe it. With a max of 28 knots wind behind us from about 120 degrees, we surfed down one wave and then caught the next one in front of that. Before we knew it we were all looking at a 22.7 on the nav gear. I had a close eye on the bows making sure they weren't going to bury, they looked like they might but Riley "promised" me that it was normal and fine!! Matthieu says we could have got 25 knots so looks like Riley will be aiming for that next time… I never thought I’d go this fast on a sail boat. Still in recovery from this wild experience. Very happy to still be here to tell you this tale, to be alive and writing this very description is a miracle. I love you guys, Elayna. Some of the best beaches in Greece! 720p/HD
Greece has more than 16,000 kilometers (9,320 miles) of coastline, 200,000 beaches, 6,000 islands (and islets). Greece's coastline is by far the longest coastline in the Mediterranean sea, and the tenth longest in the world. The deepest point in the Mediterranean Sea is called the "Calypso Deep", it is located in the Ionian Sea in Greece, and is 5,267 meters deep (17,280 feet). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The quality of coastal bathing waters in Greece is systematically monitored since 1988 (according to Directive 76/160/EEC), and since then Greece has been receiving excellent reports on it's bathing water sites, with more than 95% of them meeting the most stringent guide values (excellent quality). According to the 2012 European bathing water quality report of the European Environment Agency, Greece and Cyprus have the cleanest coastal bathing waters in Europe. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Regardless of your location in Greece, a beach won't be far away. Beaches in Greece have a serene, peaceful atmosphere. Most beaches have shallow, calm, crystal clear waters that make them ideal for young children and families. Due to the country's peninsular shape, big waves do not usually reach the beaches, except those that are exposed to the open ocean, which are mostly preferred by windsurfers. Apart from the long wide sandy beaches, and those lined with pine (in the North), or palm (in Crete) trees and lush green grass in the north, there are many small rocky, pebbly inlets, perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving. There are also numerous remote beaches that are only accessible by boat, and other secluded naturalist beaches lining the coasts of Greece, where nudism is quite prevalent. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Conditions in various beach destinations in the world can differ greatly. During the tourist season, Tropical Weather (in contrast to Mediterranean Weather), can produce unpleasant atmospheric conditions like: Sudden storms, monsoons, floods, clouds, extreme humidity and precipitation, unpleasantly warm sea temperature, dangerous strong ocean rip currents that can pull swimmers away from the shore without them even noticing and huge waves that can cause sea water to lose its clarity and become foamy, murky and dirty. Moreover, due to vast presence of algae, low salinity/iodine levels, excessive bacterial and micro-organic activity (which can be highly pathogenic), the sea color in the Tropical Zones can obtain a repulsive, slimy green color. In contrast to the Tropics, Greek summer is always hot, calm, sunny, cloudless and dry and the Greek sea is blue, clear and a lot safer, not only health-wise but also due to the fact that encounters with dangerous/venomous sea creatures and organisms is extremely rare in Greece, as such species are not endemic to the Mediterranean region. (There is only one anecdotal tale of a fatal shark attack in the Greek islands, and that was reported nearly a century ago). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Video Info: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Music: 00:00 - 07:08 "Salt Tank - Sargasso Sea" (InternalRecords) 07:09 - 09:08 "Mikro - Eikones" (UndoRecords/ EMI /Warner) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pictures: Mainly from Flickr / Panoramio / Trekearth accounts. Tidal Surge Effect of Atlantic Ocean Influences Mediterranean Sea
Tidal Surge Effect of Atlantic Ocean Influences Mediterranean Sea OneZenTsu @ https://twitter.com/OneZenTsu #OneHarmonic After 6 hour trip on whale dolphin Mediterranean research yacht encountering unusual undersea swells agitating the surface of the sea [with no dolphins whales to be seen) I realised the Mediterranean is influenced by Ocean tides through the action of the Atlantic Ocean. Deep running underwater rivers surge from the Atlantic through Straights of Gibraltar & as the Atlantic is a tidal Ocean it must have an effect on other related bodies of water. Having visited & observed this area for a number of years I can say in 2019 Mediterranean Climate has been showing signs of gradual sea rise & fall surges & changing atmospheric phenomenon that is unusual to the area until now. I try to show this in the videos_° I have observed weather phenomenon since I was a child when I would spend hours in the garden observing the sky & variations in weather patterns even sitting in the rain just watching Nature & the world around me. Not thinking only watching like a cat what is without thought. I want to share a new vision on this Channel = not only how I see the world through the lens of a camcorder .. but using videos I want to share how our tools are ART [no matter what the tools are]. To inspire YOU to find what you love to do = to find the INNER ARTIST and for you to DEVELOP the craft and not be afraid. I am going to do what I do best = I am just going to throw it all up there .. load the videos onto the Channel so that each person can take ONE thing away that makes sense to THEM IN THAT MOMENT_° There are going to be changes on this channel in terms of broadening the spectrum of what I do & how I do it = I have to do what is true to me to express why I am here on this Planet. To do this I simply am going to share with people HOW I SEE the WORLD. Filmed in 4K with Panasonic HC-VX11 32x izoom Saramonic Wireless UwMic9 Dual Microphone

We are really enjoying this life and share everything with you it's been wonderful . Thank you very much, you guys are amazing. Much love Carla & Simon A little bit about us... We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, fifteen months after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it. Much love Carla and Simon

Prehistoric Megastorms - Noah's Great Flood
Visit our new website: http://bestfreedocumentaries.org https://www.facebook.com/bestfreedocumentaries Blog: http://documentarydesire.blogspot.co.uk/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/DocuDesire Could the biblical story of Noah be true? Did real disasters inspire the story of Earth's 40-day submersion, the ultimate "do-over?" Recent core sample discoveries point to a series of events that could have lead to climactic conditions that washed out entire land masses, even destroying complete civilizations. MEGA DISASTERS examines one such cataclysm in great detail: 8000 years ago the Mediterranean Sea, pushed by rising sea levels worldwide, exploded through the Bosporus Strait with devastating results. This ancient inundation may have been the greatest natural disaster in the history of humankind. MEGA DISASTERS reconstructs this massive flood, which claimed an area twice the size of Ireland, and utilizes vivid 3D animation to plunge viewers deep into the experience of this epic catastrophe. NOAH'S GREAT FLOOD, whether apocryphal or literal, is the ultimate tale of man vs. nature (and God, for that matter), and MEGA DISASTERS shows how it may have really happened! https://www.facebook.com/bestfreedocumentaries

Sailing The Dream | #013 | Mediterranean Sea Bound
Finally, the right moment for us to leave Gibraltar and enter the Mediterranean Sea waters arrived, so we set sail, crossed the Strait and had one of our fastest passages ever full of dolphins and the biggest scary moment so far! We reached a top speed of 14 knots and shortly after we got almost knocked down by a squall. What an adventure! Water Spouts in the Mediterranean (Sailing La Vagabonde) Ep. 2
A little video put together from our 5 day sail from Crete to Malta. Some bad weather for the first 24 hours, first encounter with water spouts (we ran into 4 in one day..)! Finally caught some Tuna trawling.. after 3 months worth of trawling in the Med.. Arrived in in beautiful Malta, and discovered a few problems: -The bilge was pumping more than usual.. turns out the 'stuffing box' is taking in water. -The auto pilot was also making strange creaking noises.. Riley climbed into the TINY stern cabin (which I believe an octopus would struggle to squeeze into) and the rudder has broken free of its casing.. we believe when we ran aground in Turkey this is what has caused it.. better we have discovered this now rather than half way across the Atlantic.. -Also the wind speed indicator has given up on life. Need's to be looked at. On the bright side tomorrow I get to set up the Christmas tree. Enjoy & stay tuned for more vids!Enjoy the vid! Stay tuned for more video's. Ps.
