How to Create a Menu in Wordpress

04:56
Make Your WordPress Website in 10 Mins ➜ https://youtu.be/YWA-xbsJrVg Watch How you can Add a Menu in WordPress, (including creating a Drop-Down Menu) Menus in WordPress are a great navigation tool which allows users to freely browse through the content of your website without any confusion. WordPress menus are essential in development of a website which provides structure to your website by arranging the content in an organized manner. Now, in our previous video, you learned - How to Make a Website in 10 minutes. Now, let’s see, How you can change the Menu of that WordPress Website. To do this, you can follow these 3 steps (with timestamps) 1. Delete Existing Menu ( 00:40 ) 2. Adding a New Menu ( 01:05) 3. Creating A Drop-Down Menu ( 03: 49) Let’s get started. Step 1: Delete Existing Menu To delete the existing Menu, First go to your WordPress Dashboard and then click the ‘Customize’ option. Under Customize, Select ‘Menus’ Here, you’ll find that there is already a Menu called “Top Navigation”. So, when you click this Menu, you’ll see the items that is there in it. Now, this menu can be deleted by clicking the ‘Delete Menu’ button at the bottom part of the screen. Once done, the Menu will be removed. Step 2: Add a New Menu Now to Create a New Menu, First Click ‘Create New Menu’ button. Next, you need to give a name of your choice for the new menu. For example, you can enter the name as ‘Top Menu’ and once done, you need to choose where the Menu should appear on your website. Based on the WordPress theme you’re using, you can place the Menu on different areas of your website. Each theme will provide different options on where the Menu can be placed. Example: With the Astra theme, we’re using, it shows primary and secondary menu. So, if you select the Primary Menu then it will place the menu on the top right corner of your website. After choosing, you can click ‘Next’. Then, you can start adding items to the Menu. Here, you’ll find the pages section where all the pages that you’ve in your website will be shown. Now, If you want to see the pages and its content, you can go to your WordPress Dashboard and Click ‘Pages’. So, the pages which you see here will be shown in your menu items. So, To add the pages to the Menu, Press the ‘Add Symbol’ and the page will be added to the Menu. Similarly, you can add the other pages also. After you’ve added the items, you’ll be able to see your menu. Now, you can change the order of the menu items by dragging an item and placing it where you want. Doing this will change the order of the menu items. So Next, let’s see how you can add a brand new page to the menu which is not on your site yet. So, to add a brand new page to the menu, all you need to do is, enter the name of the page you want to create and then click ‘add’ to get it into the menu. After adding, You can now click ‘publish’ to see your NEW MENU. However, since you’ve created a new page, it will be blank by default. So, You can later add the content to this new page by clicking ‘Edit’ option in Pages. Step 3: Create Drop down Menu Here, let’s see how you can create a drop down Menu. Drop Menu is a very effective way to categorize the content and showcase them independently. A drop down menu can be easily created by just dragging an item in the Menu and putting it below another item. After doing this, you can see that you have a drop down menu created. Repeat the same process whenever you want to create various drop down menu. So now you know how you can add the pages you’ve created to your drop down menu. That’s it! This is how easily you can Create A New Menu or Create Drop down Menu in WordPress. 4 Places To Edit WordPress CSS | WP Learning Lab

08:08
Grab Your Free 17-Point WordPress Pre-Launch PDF Checklist: http://vid.io/xqRL 4 Places To Edit WordPress CSS | WP Learning Lab To edit WordPress CSS you first need to know all the places you can find CSS. There are 4 common places. You may not have all these locations on your website because some of them are theme-dependent. The possible CSS locations are: 1. The WordPress theme or child theme stylesheet (this one you have for sure) 2. The theme options panel (this one you may or may not have) 3. A CSS editor on each page and post (this one you may or may not have) 4. Inline CSS applied directly to HTML elements on the page (this one you will have only if you're written it) Let's go through each one. The WordPress theme or child theme stylesheet When inside your WordPress dashboard if you click on Appearance then Editor you will be able to edit theme or child theme files. Usually the style.css is loaded first by default. If it's not loaded find the style.css file in the list of files on the right side of the editor page. When you find it, click on it. That will open the CSS file in WordPress editor. At this point you can make edits to the file and click on the Update button to save your changes. How to actually code CSS is beyond the scope of this tutorial, but you can check out my CSS channel over here (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeFLITjl2v9vtIkftw9UMsw) The danger in editing CSS directly in the stylesheet of the main theme is that what you create may be over written when the theme updates. You get around this problem by creating a child theme (see a tutorial on how to create a WordPress child theme here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8n1h-85SMQ). The theme options panel Not every theme has a theme options panel, but the ones that do make WordPress CSS so much easier to edit. You can simply add CSS to the CSS box in the theme options and click save changes. The upside is that theme updates won't erase the CSS code you create. A CSS editor on each page and post Some themes, like Avada and Divi, give you the option of insert CSS code right into the individual posts and pages of your website. This is great for CSS that you want to be only one page. I would only recommend doing this if you're putting more than 100 lines of CSS into the page. If it's less than 100 lines of CSS you're better to put into the main stylesheet so you stay organized. If it's more than 100 lines of CSS code that only need to exist on one page then your site will load a little bit faster overall by not loading all that CSS into every page. Inline CSS The last place in our list and the last place you'd want to create CSS code is right in your HTML elements. This is called inline CSS and can be difficult to work with for two big reasons. First, you can't apply the CSS to more than one element at a time. So if you want to style all the paragraphs on the page in the same way you have to apply the same CSS code over and over again to each p tag. This is a pain to administer and will result in larger than needed page sizes. Second, if you add inline CSS to lots of pages it will be come difficult to remember what CSS you applied where. Then trying to find it an make edits will become a pain. Inline CSS also takes precedent over CSS in the stylesheet. So you might be make changes to CSS in the stylesheet, but nothing is happening on the page. You'll go through a frustrating few minutes before you figure out the CSS is actually inline on the page. I hope this information helps you! WordPress Theme Development: Creating Custom Walker Nav Menus

31:11
Hey, guys! What's going on over there? This is Kimsea from basicblogtalk.com. Welcome to lesson 4 or 3.1 of the WordPress development for beginners. This tutorial will teach you how to create Extends Walker Nav Menu to customize custom menus of your WordPress theme. ...but before I'm going to show you how to work with it, please lets me review the previous lesson and its issue. Last week, in the previous lesson, you've learnt how to register the navigation menus. I used register_nav_menus to create menu manager for the backend users. Also, the wp_nav_menu to display the menus where you want it to appear. At the meantime, I used some arguments of the wp_nav_menu to integrate the menus with bootstrap 3. As you can see, we've built 2 beautiful navigation menus in the frontend page of theme. There is a problem, however, when I try to create child menu or submenu in the current displayed menus. The bootstrap framwork didn't regconize the submenu items of the WordPress HTML classes. So, It made the navigation menus look pretty bad... And the most terrible is, we cannot fix the problem using the wp_nav_menu function. It's the reason I come up with today tutorial: How to Create Extends Walker Nav Menu. In the video, I will reveal how to make three walker classes for 3 different menu locations. So after finished the tutorial, you will be able to create some kind of these beautiful custom menus: 1) The dropdown menu on the top of your WordPress theme 2) The dropup menu at the buttom of the fotter of your theme 3) The popup overlap menu which appear when your clicked on the menu button There we go then... Change WordPress Font-Size Using Theme Options or CSS | WP Learning Lab

Grab Your Free 17-Point WordPress Pre-Launch PDF Checklist: http://vid.io/xqRL Download your exclusive 10-Point WP Hardening Checklist: http://bit.ly/10point-wordpress-hardening-checklist Change WordPress Font-Size Using Theme Options or CSS | WP Learning Lab Changing WordPress Font-size is done in the theme options panel or with CSS. Once you know where to make the changes in your theme it is easy to do. As with a lot of things in Wordpress, where you do things depends on the theme you're using and the plugins you're running. First, always check to see if your theme has theme options. If it does then you should be able to find a typography tab to edit font sizes. Sometimes font sizes will be found in the general settings of the theme options. The theme options will be found either under the Appearance menu in the left hand side admin menu or there will be special menu item that the them itself added. If your theme doesn't have theme options, then you're next stop should be the customizer. Some themes have a lot of WordPress Customizer support. Go to Appearance then Customizer to see if you can edit font sizes there. If both of those are a no-go then you're left with going to directly to the stylesheet to change font sizes. This is method is great if you have some CSS knowledge. To find your stylesheet go to Appearance then Editor. The stylesheet will be the first thing to appear in the editor. If, for some reason, it's not there, then find the style.css file in the list of theme files on the right and click it to open it in the editor. NOTE: You should be edit stylesheet of a child theme only. If you edit the parent theme stylesheet directly then your edits could be overwritten when you update the them. Here's a tutorial on how to create a child theme if you need it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8n1h-85SMQ Now that you have the CSS stylesheet open in the editor you will need to find the font styles. The easiest way to do this is go to your main site and find the fonts that you want to edit. If you're using Google Chrome or Firefox right click on the text and choose the "inspector" or "inspect" from the context menu. If you're not using Google Chrome or Firefox then start using them. In the inspector that opens at the bottom of the page you should see the text highlighted in the main area and the class of the element on the right. You can type styles right into the element on the right hand side to quickly test to see how big you want the font to be. This doesn't save it permanently. What you see is only in your browser and as soon as you refresh the page you'll lose it. So, find the class for the text, find the right size and move that CSS rule in to the stylesheet for the child theme. Sometimes you'll have to fight with the existing CSS to make your font changes take effect. That's where a command link !important comes in very handy. If you type .h2 {font-size:10px !important;}. Having !important forces that style to take precedent over all others. It's a lazy way to code CSS, but unless you have time to find the conflicting styles, it's a fast and easy trick. WordPress: how to change the font (size / type / color) on your entire website

02:57
WordPress: how to change the font (size / type / color) on your entire site Full article: http://imstartpage.com/change-font-wordpress-font-type-size-color Find or convert hex colors: http://imstartpage.com/color-code-conversion-tool-rgb-hex-cmyk Follow me on other media: ►Website: http://www.guidoshowtos.com ►Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/guidoshowtos ►Twitter: https://twitter.com/guidoshowtos ►Google+: https://plus.google.com/+Guidoshowtos Full instructions: The method I'm going to show, will change the default font on your entire website. The default font on your site is specified by a file called a 'stylesheet'. The stylesheet is part of your current WordPress theme. So; to change your font, you'll have to edit your stylesheet. To find out exactly what to edit, you can use a feature in Google Chrome; right-click the font you want to change, and then click 'inspect element'. On the right side of the menu, you'll see exactly what parts of the stylesheet are being used to make your site look the way it looks. Here, scroll down until you find something that says 'font'. OK, this is the part that specifies what fonts are being used on your site. You can have a look at the entire stylesheet by clicking this link. To change the font in WordPress, we need to find this part of the stylesheet in the back-end of WordPress. Because your stylesheet contains hundreds of lines of code, an easy way to find it is to use Google Chrome's search feature. So, I'm going to copy this part of the code, and add it in the search bar later. To edit your stylesheet, go to your dashboard, then click 'Appearance', and then 'Editor'. By default, it'll open the stylesheet, so that's style.css. Now press Ctrl+F to bring up the search bar, a and paste the text you copied earlier. This will bring you to the exact code you need to edit. For 'Font size', change the number to make your font smaller or larger. To change the font type, edit the name of the font, for 'font-family'. The first one in the line is the one that's going to be used. For 'color', enter the color you want to use. These are specified in the hexadecimal format (hex). When you're done making changes, scroll down and click 'Update file'. And that's it! Go back to your site, and refresh the page to see the changes take effect. And it works; your site is now using a larger font, another font type, and another font color. --- Dutch article: http://websiteopzetten.com/lettertype-font-veranderen-wordpress-type-grootte-kleur/ Also read: http://websiteopzetten.com/webhosting/

How To Edit The WordPress Header | WP Learning Lab

04:37
Grab Your Free 17-Point WordPress Pre-Launch PDF Checklist: http://vid.io/xqRL How To Edit The WordPress Header | WP Learning Lab The WordPress header is one of those place where a lot of important things happen. Scripts are called, integrations are set up and validated, stylesheets are imported, and so on. Usually, leaving the header.php file alone is the best plan, but sometimes you have to make additions or changes. Before you do, keep in mind that if you are editing the header.php file of the main theme, then updates to that theme can cause your changes to be overwritten. To avoid this, you'll need to create a child theme. Here's a tutorial to help you do just that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8n1h-85SMQ Once you've created the child theme you'll want to duplicate the header.php file into it by following this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebGrw1h6Hog Once you have the header.php file there we can get to work. If you've followed the tutorials above you can now dive into header file and started editing. If you didn't create a child theme, then there are a couple ways to find and edit the header.php file. First, when in your WordPress dashboard you can click on the Appearance menu and then Editor. On the right side of the page you will the list of files in the theme. One of them will be called header.php. Click on that file and it open it so you can edit the WordPress header. Or you can go through the file manager in your cPanel account. Once in the file manager navigate to wp-content/themes/YOURTHEME. The header.php file is normally in the root of a themes directory. You can also connect via FTP to make edits to files. Now that you've found the header.php it goes without saying that you need to be careful. One wrong move in a PHP file and your whole site will go down until you fix the problem. So only edit the WordPress header if you are comfortable with PHP. I hope this information helps you! Styling Divi’s Fullscreen Menu

06:06
Divi’s full-screen menu presents a great opportunity for custom design. Unlike the other four header styles available in Divi’s Theme Customizer, the full-screen menu fills the entire screen when active. This makes room for a creative layout for Divi’s menu and header elements. In today’s post, I’m going to show you how to style your full-screen menu to give it a more custom feel for your visitors. To accomplish this I will be changing a few options in the theme customizer and adding some custom CSS. Read more: https://www.elegantthemes.com/blog/divi-resources/styling-divis-fullscreen-menu
