This is just the product of a history nerd with a movie maker. All video clips are from the John Adams Miniseries and are completely owned by HBO. The audio used is "Secret Garden" by From a Secret Garden and "You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban. They own all of the music and not me.

Making an 18th Century Sterling Silver Jefferson Cup

09:50
While named after Thomas Jefferson, these 18th century cups are based on a style known as a "tumbler". The base was typically of thicker material than the sides. The lower center of gravity lent stability and helped prevent spilling. Jefferson's own cups were re-fashioned tumblers created by silversmith, John Letelier in 1810. Today the style is a popular means of commemoration as the smooth surfaces lend to engraving and personalization.

Thomas Jefferson & His Democracy: Crash Course US History #10

13:19
In which John Green teaches you about founding father and third president of the United States, Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson is a somewhat controversial figure in American history, largely because he, like pretty much all humans, was a big bundle of contradictions. Jefferson was a slave-owner who couldn't decide if he liked slavery. He advocated for small government, but expanded federal power more than either of his presidential predecessor. He also idealized the independent farmer and demonized manufacturing, but put policies in place that would expand industrial production in the US. Controversy may ensue as we try to deviate a bit from the standard hagiography/slander story that usually told about old TJ. John explores Jefferson's election, his policies, and some of the new nation's (literally and figuratively) formative events that took place during Jefferson's presidency. In addition to all this, Napoleon drops in to sell Louisiana, John Marshall sets the course of the Supreme Court, and John Adams gets called a tiny tyrant. Hey teachers and students - Check out CommonLit's free collection of reading passages and curriculum resources to learn more about the events of this episode. Thomas Jefferson is remembered as the Founding Father responsible for saying all men are created equal in The Declaration of Independence: https://www.commonlit.org/texts/the-declaration-of-independence Jefferson didn't always practice what he preached though, as seen in his mixed views on American Indians: https://www.commonlit.org/texts/excerpts-from-thomas-jefferson-s-writings-on-american-indians Follow us! http://www.twitter.com/thecrashcourse http://www.twitter.com/realjohngreen http://www.twitter.com/crashcoursestan http://www.twitter.com/raoulmeyer http://www.twitter.com/thoughtbubbler http://www.twitter.com/saysdanica Like us! http://www.facebook.com/youtubecrashcourse Support CrashCourse on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/crashcourse

How To Solve Class Warfare JEFFERSON STYLE - Not Marx Style

06:36
The Left is right about one thing - we've got a PLUTOCRACY problem here in America where the mega-rich are milking government favors while the rest of us are forced to pay for it. The Left's solution to this is more Marxism which means bigger government. This is the WRONG approach and will only dig us deeper into the hole. What we need instead is new kind of solution straight from the mind of Thomas Jefferson himself! In this video Lloyd Sloan talks about the radical new approach to solving class warfare in America by doing exactly what Thomas Jefferson said: cut taxes and regulations FROM THE BOTTOM-UP and cut Federal benefits from the TOP-DOWN. This will allow the small businesses and individuals to thrive without having to worry about draconian taxes and regulations keeping them down, while forbidding Federal benefits to those who don't need it. No more bailouts for the rich, and no more crushing taxes and stacks of incomprehensible regulations for the individual and small business who can't possibly compete on the same level as big businesses who have entire teams of experts and lawyers just to deal with compliance. You can sell this idea to the Left as protecting the little guy from the powerful, which it does. You can sell this to the Right as a way to cut the size of the government and eliminate some taxes and regulations. And you can sell this to Libertarians as a "first step" toward eliminating taxes and regulations altogether. Everybody can win with this key idea of BOTTOM-UP cuts.

Improving Your Cursive Handwriting

03:51
A couple of quick tips to improving your cursive handwriting -- which seems to be something almost everyone wants to do after they get their first fountain pen. The pen I'm writing with is a Pilot Metropolitan with a Fine nib. The writing style is something I derived from one commonly used in the age of dip pens -- when it was important, if not imperative, to be legible since it was your only option. I call it CJ Roundhand. Taste Test! Thomas Jefferson's Vanilla Ice Cream Recipe

When serving as US ambassador to France, Thomas Jefferson developed a taste for a treat that was hard to find in his home country: Vanilla Ice Cream. In this video, Dr. Pati Vitt of the Chicago Botanic Garden demonstrates the recipe he brought back from France, making the same recipe three times using beans from different countries (Madagascar, Mexico and Tahiti) in each. Beth Nielsen of Nielsen-Massey Vanillas is on hand to explain the different flavor profiles and Ann Heinz of Three Tarts Bakery and Paula Haney of Hoosier Mama Pie Company join Beth to taste test the results. Can they match the ice cream to the bean? Watch and find out! Filmed at the Nielsen-Massey Demo Kitchen.

Thomas Jefferson Quotes

02:21
For More Famous Quotes By Homer : http://www.quoteswave.com/authors/thomas-jefferson About : Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) was a founding father of the US, the author of the draft of the Declaration of Independence, and the third President of the United States of America. This great man was a long-term legislator, lawyer, diplomat, architect, inventor, scientist, agriculturist, writer, and revolutionary thinker. While a delegate to the Continental Congress in 1775, Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence (it was amended by Benjamin Franklin and other committee members). In 1776, Jefferson was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, where he fought for the separation of church and state and other causes that were important to him. Jefferson became the Governor of Virginia in 1779, but resigned his second term in 1781 after the British (led by the turncoat Benedict Arnold) invaded Virginia. Jefferson had been unprepared for the attack and soon became very unpopular in Virginia. In 1783, Jefferson was elected to Congress (from Virginia). Soon after, in 1785, President George Washington appointed Jefferson as the US Minister to France (replacing Benjamin Franklin). In 1789, Washington appointed him Secretary of State, but he resigned on Dec. 31, 1793 (after major differences with Alexander Hamilton). In 1796, Jefferson ran for President of the USA, but lost. John Adams won, and Jefferson became Vice-President of the USA (it was an unusual administration since Adams and Jefferson had been opponents). Jefferson was elected President in 1800 (defeating Adams). He was re-elected to a second term in 1804. His Vice-Presidents were Aaron Burr and George Clinton. Like video? A coward is much more exposed to quarrels than a man of spirit. Never spend your money before you have earned it. When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on. In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. As our enemies have found we can reason like men, so now let us show them we can fight like men also. My only fear is that I may live too long. This would be a subject of dread to me. The advertisements are the most truthful part of a newspaper. It is error alone which needs the support of government. Truth can stand by itself. Thomas Jefferson´s International New Orleans Jazz Band-Way Down Yonder in New Orleans

05:38
The session on this CD was recorded live in Denmark in 1974, with Jefferson backed by top Danish traditional jazz musicians, plus the great English alto saxophonist and clarinettist Sammy Rimington. The repertoire consists of classic New Orleans traditional jazz standards, and the musical style is also mainstream New Orleans. Thomas Jefferson, born in 1921, spent most of his life in New Orleans, especially playing clubs on Bourbon Street, and Louis Armstrong heavily influences his trumpet style. As this live CD reveals. Jefferson was a master of picking the right songs at the right tempo, and was as expert crowd-pleaser. Recorded live at Taarbaek Kyst Collegium, Denmark, on January 10, 1974. Personnel: Thomas Jefferson (vocals, trumpet); Sammy Rimington (alto saxophone, clarinet); Anders Laursen (alto saxophone); Henrik De Neergaard (trombone); Hans Knudsen (banjo); Peter Brusendorff (bass); Soren Houlind (drums); Gunnar "Caesar" Anderson (piano).
