05:17
The Sea Hunter is an autonomous unmanned surface vehicle (USV) launched in 2016 as part of the DARPA Anti-Submarine Warfare Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) program. It was christened 7 April 2016 in Portland, Oregon. The initially unarmed prototype, built at a cost of twenty million dollars, is a 132-foot (40 meter)-long trimaran (a central hull with two outriggers). It is an unmanned self-piloting craft with twin screws, powered by two diesel engines with a top speed of 27 knots (31 mph; 50 km/h). Its weight is 135 tons, including 40 tons of fuel, adequate for a 70-day cruise. It is expected to undergo two years of testing before being placed in service with the U.S. Navy. If tests are successful, future such craft may be armed and used for anti-submarine and counter-mine duties, operating at a small fraction of the cost of operating a destroyer, $15,000-$20,000 per day compared to $700,000 per day. U.S. NAVY’S SEA HUNTER UNMANNED SURFACE VESSEL - FULL ANALYSIS

05:54
Some reports emerging in the media have claimed America is lagging behind China in Artificial Intelligence. But U.S. Navy’s Sea Hunter project has achieved something truly amazing. Sea Hunter has become the first craft to ever sail from San Diego, California to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and back without needing any onboard crew. Viewers may note that the round trip is almost 5,200 miles. On Jan. 31 2019, Leidos, the lead Defense contractor for the Sea Hunter project, announced this achievement in a press release. Gerry Fasano, Leidos Defense Group President, said the press release, “The Sea Hunter program is leading the world in unmanned, fully autonomous naval ship design and production. The recent long-range mission is the first of its kind and demonstrates to the U.S. Navy that autonomy technology is ready to move from the developmental and experimental stages to advanced mission testing.” In this video Defines Updates analyses U.S. Navy’s Sea Hunter unmanned surface vessel. Let's get into the details. DARPA Autonomous Sea Hunter ACTUV

Behold The Future https://www.beholdthefuture.com/ DARPA’s Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) program has designed, developed and constructed an entirely new class of ocean-going vessel—one intended to traverse thousands of kilometers over the open seas for months at a time, all without a single crew member aboard. The ACTUV technology demonstration vessel was recently transferred to water at its construction site in Portland, Ore., and conducted speed tests in which it reached a top speed of 27 knots (31 mph/50 kph). The vessel is scheduled to be christened on April 7, 2016, with open-water testing planned to begin in summer 2016 off the California coast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvzmxZkAbUM ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ DARPA’s Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) program has developed and built a technology demonstration vessel that is currently undergoing open-water testing off the coast of California and recently set sail with its first payload: a prototype of a low-cost, elevated sensor mast developed through the Agency’s Towed Airborne Lift of Naval Systems (TALONS) research effort. ACTUV seeks to lay the technical foundation for an entirely new class of ocean-going vessel—one able to traverse thousands of kilometers over the open seas for month at a time, without a single crew member aboard. Potential missions include submarine tracking and countermine activities. Towed behind boats or ships, TALONS could persistently carry intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), and communications payloads of up to 150 pounds between 500 and 1,500 feet in altitude—many times higher than current ships’ masts—and greatly extend the equipment’s range and effectiveness. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKjR3qodL-4 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DARPA ACTUV autonomous/unmanned ship project Military drone aircraft seem to get all the attention, but what about a drone ship? And one that pilots itself? That's what DARPA is testing right now in the waters near Portland, Oregon and later off San Diego. It's called ACTUV. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWEk_9cXnO0 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DARPA Future Advanced Submarine Killer - The Sea Hunter DARPA Future Advanced Submarine Killer - The Sea Hunter Commencing in 2017 DARPA will begin collecting data on how its Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) conducts fully autonomous operations in preparation for international certification. ACTUV, now referred to as Sea Hunter, will begin the lengthy International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGS) certification process, an important step in determining whether the large unmanned surface vessel (USV) is a viable solution for conducting extended ASW missions. COLREGS is a "threshold capability that is important for any large USV that will be operated at long distances from a human operator", explained Scott Littlefield, programme manager for DARPA's ACTUV programme. "It is the rules of the road at sea," Littlefield told attendees at the annual AUVSI Unmanned Systems Defense maritime day, held on 24 October in Arlington, Virginia. Sea Hunter is a 132-ft trimaran built by Leidos. The vessel was initially designed to autonomously track submarines for periods of weeks to months. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ronsw-9BDuo --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) Post-Christening Highlights DARPA has successfully completed its Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) program and has officially transferred the technology demonstration vessel, christened Sea Hunter, to the Office of Naval Research (ONR). ONR will continue developing the revolutionary prototype vehicle—the first of what could ultimately become an entirely new class of ocean-going vessel able to traverse thousands of kilometers over the open seas for month at a time, without a single crew member aboard—as the Medium Displacement Unmanned Surface Vehicle (MDUSV). The handover marks the culmination of three years of collaboration between DARPA and ONR that started in September 2014. An April 2016 christening ceremony marked the vessel’s formal transition from a DARPA-led design and construction project to a new stage of open-water testing conducted jointly with ONR. That same month, the vessel moved to San Diego, Calif., for open-water testing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqb4xzhd40w

Ghost Ship: Stepping Aboard Sea Hunter, The U.S. Navy's Unmanned Drone Ship The Sea Hunter is an autonomous unmanned surface vehicle (USV) launched in 2016 as part of the DARPA Anti-Submarine Warfare Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) program. It was christened 7 April 2016 in Portland, Oregon. It was built by Vigor Industrial. The vessel continues the line of experimental "Sea" ships, including the Sea Shadow, Sea Fighter, and Sea Slice. The Sea Hunter is classified as a Class III USV and designated the Medium Displacement Unmanned Surface Vehicle (MDUSV). Cruising range is "transoceanic," 10,000 nautical miles (12,000 mi; 19,000 km) at 12 knots (14 mph; 22 km/h) fully fueled with 14,000 gallons of gas, enough to "go from San Diego to Guam and back to Pearl Harbor on a tank of gas."[6] Sea Hunter has a full load displacement of 145 tons and is intended to be operational through Sea State 5, waves up to 6.5 ft (2.0 m) high and winds up to 21 knots (24 mph; 39 km/h), and survivable through Sea State 7, seas up to 20 ft (6.1 m) high. The trimaran hull provides increased stability without requiring a weighted keel, giving it a higher capacity for linear trajectories and better operations in shallow waters, though the greater width decreases maneuverability. Sea Hunter (Autonomous Submarine): The Best of All Ever Launched

10:18
Sea Hunter (Autonomous Submarine): The Best of All Ever Launched U.S defense research agency DARPA has developed Sea Hunter, a prototype unmanned submarine tracking vessel with the ability to Autonomously patrol the seas for months on end at a fraction of current costs. Julian Turner investigates what this could mean for conventional submarine warfare. Even by U.S military standards, the excitement surrounding Sea Hunter, a prototype unmanned submarine tracking vessel developed at a cost of $20m by U.S defense research agency DARPA, is startling. Variously described as “a highly Autonomous unmanned ship that could revolutionize U.S maritime operations” and “a new vision of naval surface warfare”, the drone was developed through the agency’s Anti-Submarine Warfare ContinuoU.S Trail Unmanned Vessel (ASW ACTUV) programme. The Class III unmanned surface vessel (USV) has the potential to traverse thousands of kilometers of open ocean for months without a single crew member aboard and at a fraction of current costs – estimates range from $15,000-$20,000 a day compared with $700,000 a day to operate a destroyer. According to DARPA, Sea Hunter could ultimately lead to a whole new class of ocean-going vessel and eradicate the need for larger manned warships, transforming conventional submarine warfare. Measuring 132ft in length and capable of 27 knots, Sea Hunter is the world’s largest unscrewed ship and is designed as a trimaran, the name given to a multihull vessel comprising a main hull and two smaller outrigger hulls (or ‘floats’) attached to it with lateral beams. A successful joint test with DARPA’s Towed Airborne Lift of Naval Systems – meaning Sea Hunter could handle communications relays, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance sensor packages – was followed by open-water testing of the vessel’s sensing and autonomy suites. In 2017 three tests took place to integrate the suites and U.Se them to comply with International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea during operationally realistic scenarios. In Aug.St 2017, Sea Hunter conducted at-sea tests with a mine countermeasures (MCM) payload. DARPA and the Office of Naval Research (ONR) also conducted tests in order to prove a key design element: the vessel’s flexibility to handle diverse missions by switching among modular payloads. DARPA completed its ASW ACTUV project in January and transferred the demonstration vessel to ONR the following month. ONR will develop the prototype as the Medium Displacement Unmanned Surface Vehicle (MDUSV) and test Sea Hunter’s automated payload and sensor data processing, new mission-specific Autonomous behaviors, and Autonomous coordination among multiple USVs.

THIS IS THE FUTURE OF ANTI SUBMARINE DRONE SHIP | SEA HUNTER

03:06
THIS IS THE FUTURE OF ANTI SUBMARINE DRONE SHIP | SEA HUNTER THIS IS THE FUTURE OF ANTI SUBMARINE DRONE SHIP | SEA HUNTER The Anti-Submarine Wa fare (ASW) Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) is developing an unmanned vessel optimized to robustly track quiet diesel electric submarines. The program is structured around three primary goals: Explore the performance potential of a surface platform conceived from concept to field demonstration under the premise that a human is never intended to step aboard at any point in its operating cycle. As a result, a new design paradigm emerges with reduced constraints on conventional naval architecture elements such as layout, accessibility, crew support systems, and reserve buoyancy. The objective is to generate a vessel design that exceeds state-of-the art platform performance to provide propulsive overmatch against diesel electric submarines at a fraction of their size and cost. Advance unmanned maritime system autonomy to enable independently deploying systems capable of missions spanning thousands of kilometers of range and months of endurance under a sparse remote supervisory control model. This includes autonomous compliance with maritime laws and conventions for safe navigation, autonomous system management for operational reliability, and autonomous interactions with an intelligent adversary. Demonstrate the capability of the ACTUV system to use its unique characteristics to employ non-conventional sensor technologies that achieve robust continuous track of the quietest submarine targets over their entire operating envelope. While the ACTUV program is focused on demonstrating the ASW tracking capability in this configuration, the core platform and autonomy technologies are broadly extendable to underpin a wide range of missions and configurations for future unmanned naval vessels. U.S. Navy Gets World's Biggest Unmanned Ship

04:46
The U.S. Navy accepted delivery of a revolutionary uncrewed surface ship, one capable of traveling long distances and conducting missions all without a human on board. The Sea Hunter Anti-Submarine Warfare Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel—or ACTUV for short—could someday lead to fleets of unmanned warships plying the world’s oceans, doing everything from hunting submarines to acting as spy ships. The U.S. Navy ordered the ACTUV in 2012 as part of the Pentagon’s broader push into unmanned air, sea, and land systems. It was envisioned as a platform to test the autonomous concept in surface ships, explore how to safely and securely operate unmanned ships for months at a time over thousands of nautical miles, and create a vessel capable of tracking enemy diesel-electric submarines. Ultimate Military Defense Weapons - Unmanned Sea Hunter ACTUV Anti-Submarine Navy D | Military News Ultimate Military Defense Weapons - Unmanned Sea Hunter ACTUV Anti Submarine Navy Drone Ship. Video of the "Sea Hunter" the new and currently under development being unmanned US Navy Anti-Submarine Navy Drone Ship (ACTUV) in action. The footage shows a compilation of the ACTUV during a military test. The ASW Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) is a DARPA funded project launched in early 2010 to develop an Anti-submarine drone (Unmanned surface vehicle). In September 2014, DARPA signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Office of Naval Research (ONR) to jointly fund the ACTUV prototype. If successful, the program could transition to the U.S. Navy for ASW by 2018, and possibly other missions such as mine countermeasures. It is stated that the ACTUV will be "a first unmanned naval vessel that is designed and sized for theater or global independent deployment". The aim of the four part program is to develop a surface vessel optimized to overtly track and trail target submarines. A suite of sensors "capable of tracking quiet, modern diesel electric submarines" will be implemented into the completely unmanned vessel. It is intended that ACTUV will operate under minimal supervisory command and control; with shore bases intermittently monitoring performance and providing high-level mission objectives through beyond line-of-sight communications links. The vessel will be provided with advanced autonomous navigation and anti collision features to keep it within maritime law and the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea. It is hoped that the unmanned nature of the vessel will open up new technologies in terms of stability and sea keeping. The four part program will culminate in an integrated prototype vessel and sea trials following evaluation and design phases. The Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) is an anti-submarine drone from DARPA. The ACTUV is aimed at improving the ability to detect and engage diesel-electric submarines, which are inexpensive and quieter in comparison to nuclear-powered submarines, and to negate the threat of adversaries building large numbers by creating anti-submarine tactics at one-tenth the cost of building a diesel submarine. The craft will be an unmanned surface vehicle designed to operate and patrol autonomously for 60–90 days straight, being able to hunt for targets and avoid surface ships by itself. Pentagon reveals largest self-driving warship: Sea Hunter

01:40
The Pentagon on Monday showed off the world’s largest unmanned surface vessel, a self-driving 132-foot ship able to travel up to 10,000 nautical miles on its own to hunt for stealthy submarines and underwater mines. It marks the first step toward sending unmanned cargo vessels between countries, according to military officials, who showed off the ship in San Diego today before it was put in the water. The Pentagon's research arm, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (Darpa) developed the ship along with Virginia-based Leidos. Darpa will test it in conjunction with the Navy over the next two years off California's coast. The tests will largely focus on its ability to react on its own to avoid collisions with seafaring traffic. During the testing phase, the ship will have human operators as a safety net, but once it proves to be reliable, the autonomous surface vessel will maneuver itself — able to go out at sea for months at a time. Program manager Scott Littlefield said there will be no 'remote-controlled driving of the vessel'. Instead it will be given its mission-level commands telling it where to go and what to accomplish and then software will enable it to drive itself safely. The military initially built the diesel-powered ship to detect stealthy electric submarines.

U.S. testing autonomous Sea Hunter ocean drone

00:45
The U.S. military is currently testing an autonomous sea vessel with the ability to track enemy submarines. The Sea Hunter is being trialled by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). It’s designed primarily to hunt submarines equipped with quiet electric-diesel engines. The 40-meter-long vessel can travel at 31 miles per hour and has no armaments. Its design resembles a Polynesian outrigger canoe. This helps it navigate the ocean and handle challenging 6-meter-high waves. According to the Department of Defence, advanced software and hardware allow it to operate autonomously around other vessels and remain at sea for months at a time. Testing is expected to finish in 2018. If it is successful, it will be handed over to the U.S. Navy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Next Animation Studio’s News Direct service provides daily, high-quality, informative 3D news animations that fill in for missing footage and help viewers understand breaking news stories or in-depth features on science, technology, and health. DARPA Sea Hunter: the ship that demonstrates autonomous technology

01:39
DARPA has successfully completed its Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) program Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) program. It has officially transferred Sea Hunter - the ship that demonstrates autonomous technology - to the Office of Naval Research for the continued development of the prototype as an unmanned medium displacement surface vehicle. Sea Hunter is the first of what could become a completely new class of ocean vessels capable of traversing thousands of kilometers in the open sea for months and without a single member of the crew on board. The widespread and successful deployment of autonomous technology could save labor costs and eliminate the risk to human life in military missions. Sea Hunter has gone through extensive testing in the last two years. In October 2016, DARPA and ONR began testing at sea the Sea Hunter detection and autonomy suites. Between February and September 2017, the ship passed three progressively challenging tests to integrate the suites and use them to comply with the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea (COLREGS) in operationally real scenarios. ONR plans additional tests at sea to further develop ACTUV / MDUSV technologies, including the automation of payload and sensor data processing, the rapid development of new mission-specific autonomous behaviors and the exploration of autonomous coordination between several USV.

DARPA ทดสอบ ACTUV “Sea Hunter” ต่อต้านเรือดำน้ำก่อนประจำการอีกรอบ

ACTUV “Sea Hunter” Prototype Transitions to Office of Naval Research for Further Development DARPA successfully completes technology demonstration vessel, a highly autonomous unmanned ship that could revolutionize U.S. maritime operations DARPA has successfully completed its Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) program and has officially transferred the technology demonstration vessel, christened Sea Hunter, to the Office of Naval Research (ONR). ONR will continue developing the revolutionary prototype vehicle—the first of what could ultimately become an entirely new class of ocean-going vessel able to traverse thousands of kilometers over open seas for months at a time, without a single crew member aboard—as the Medium Displacement Unmanned Surface Vehicle (MDUSV). “ACTUV’s move from DARPA to ONR marks a significant milestone in developing large-scale USV technology and autonomy capabilities,” said Alexander Walan, a program manager in DARPA’s Tactical Technology Office (TTO). “Our collaboration with ONR has brought closer to reality a future fleet in which both manned warships and capable large unmanned vessels complement each other to accomplish diverse, evolving missions.” “ONR appreciates the truly impressive work by DARPA in advancing this technology, and the strong partnership we've had on ACTUV over the years,” said Robert Brizzolara, ONR program officer for MDUSV. “As ACTUV transfers from DARPA to ONR, ONR is looking forward to continuing and capitalizing on the science and technology work. In particular, we are already working on autonomous control, a challenging area that is key to maturing MDUSV and delivering it to the fleet.” “ACTUV represents a new vision of naval surface warfare that trades small numbers of very capable, high-value assets for large numbers of commoditized, simpler platforms that are more capable in the aggregate,” said Fred Kennedy, TTO director. “The U.S. military has talked about the strategic importance of replacing ‘king’ and ‘queen’ pieces on the maritime chessboard with lots of ‘pawns,’ and ACTUV is a first step toward doing exactly that.” The agencies’ collaboration started in September 2014, when DARPA and ONR agreed to jointly fund an extended test phase of an ACTUV prototype. An April 2016 christening ceremony marked the vessel’s formal transition from a DARPA-led design and construction project to a new stage of open-water testing conducted jointly with ONR in San Diego, Calif. In October 2016, DARPA and ONR began at-sea testing of Sea Hunter’s sensing and autonomy suites. Between February and September 2017, the vessel passed three progressively challenging tests to integrate the suites and use them to comply with International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGS) in operationally realistic scenarios. DARPA and ONR also conducted tests to prove a key element of the ACTUV/MDUSV design: the flexibility to handle diverse missions by switching among modular payloads. Sea Hunter had a successful joint test in September 2016 with DARPA’s Towed Airborne Lift of Naval Systems (TALONS) research effort. In August 2017, the vessel conducted at-sea tests with a mine countermeasures (MCM) payload. ONR plans additional at-sea tests to further develop ACTUV/MDUSV technologies, including automating payload and sensor data processing, rapidly developing new mission-specific autonomous behaviors, and exploring autonomous coordination among multiple USVs. Pending test results, MDUSV could transition to U.S. Navy operations by 2018.

U.S. Killer Un Manned Drone Warship Hunts Enemy Submarines

01:00
Think of it as a Google Self-driving car, but that's 130-feet long and built for hunting submarines. And it got one step closer to real operations this week. The Sea Hunter was christened Thursday, and the capabilities are incredible: It's designed to operate at sea for months at a time, travel thousands of miles, all while follow navigation rules and avoiding collisions. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and the Office of Naval Research are getting ready to take their new toy for a spin in the open ocean. The 130 foot trimaran is designed with a ton of advanced features that the Navy envisions it can use for hunting subs and mines, but could just as easily be used for surveillance. Known as the Anti-Submarine Warfare Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (or ACTUV), the ship boasts a virtual deck department to steer the ship and stand lookout, the release said — with virtual junior officers to stand officer of the deck to boot. "Through at-sea testing on a surrogate vessel, ACTUV’s autonomy suite has proven capable of operating the ship in compliance with maritime laws and conventions for safe navigation — including International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, or COLREGS," the release said. "ACTUV accomplishes this feat through advanced software and hardware that serve as automated lookouts, enabling the ship to operate safely near manned maritime vessels in all weather and traffic conditions, day or night." But the Sea Hunter won't be working sailors completely out of a job, said the project head. “Although ACTUV will sail unmanned, its story is entirely about people,” said Scott Littlefield, DARPA program manager. “It will still be Sailors who are deciding how, when and where to use this new capability and the technology that has made it possible. And we could not have overcome the massive technical challenges to reaching this point without the creative, committed teamwork of our commercial partners and the Office of Naval Research.” The ship is moving from Oregon to San Diego, where DARPA and ONR plan to test it. If all goes according to plan, the program will transfer to the Navy in 2018, the release said. ACTUV Speed and Maneuverability Tests

01:42
DARPA’s Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) program has designed, developed and constructed an entirely new class of ocean-going vessel—one intended to traverse thousands of kilometers over the open seas for months at a time, all without a single crew member aboard. For more information, visit www.darpa.mil.
