Does God hear prayers, and does God answer prayers? Catholic Speaker Ken Yasinski explains how God always answers prayers in one of three ways. We all feel comforted by the thought that God will hear us when we pray, and that we are not alone. And that God will answer us when we pray. But is that true. If we examine scripture, it becomes very clear that God always answer our prayer but not always in the we we ask or anticipated. He always response to us, and our request in three ways The first way God answer a prayer is with a yes. When does God do this? When our prayer of request is in communion with this will. 1 John 5:14 says, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” The second way God answers prayer is with a wait. Perhaps what we desire is God’s will, but not according to His timing. In this case, God asks us to wait upon Him. The reason he wants us to wait are His, but we can be sure it is always for a great good. The third way God answers prayers is with the response of, “I’ve God a better idea.” Very often our motives in pray are not pure. We tend to be selfish. We see and know things with a very limited perspective. So when we ask something of God, and what we ask for would not be for our spiritual good, he uses our limited openness to Him, to bring about a greater good in us. Never ever is a prayer waisted. Never, should we hold back from asking God to meet our needs. God uses every pray for our good, to lead us to heaven. So does God ever say no our prayers? Yes, when our prayers don’t align with his will, but he still answer the pray in some way. He gives a greater good, than what we were asking for. Mathew 7:8 clearly show that God always answers every prayer in some way. “For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” God always answers prayers in some way. Scripture tells us everyone who asks will receive! What we receive as a result of our request is up to God, but Jesus does guarantee we will receiving something. And what every that “something” is, will be for our eternal good. If we ask for guidance and we receive silence from God, that is for our eternal good. If we ask for consolation and God allows more desolation, that for our spiritual God. If was ask for the removal of a cross in our life, and God only alleviates it slightly, then that is for our spiritual good. We have a good Father. And in all things that he allows and grants in our life, it is all order for our good. All circumstance are ranged to lead us to heaven. Every pray that is answered with a yes, wait or I have a better idea, is granted in order lead us to heaven. Persevere in prayer, remembering that God the Father is waiting to answer his children – even if the result is to change the person, not the circumstance, Pope Francis said at the general audience Wednesday. “How many times have we asked and not obtained – we all experience it – how many times have we knocked and found a closed door? Jesus urges us, in those moments, to insist and not to give up,” the pope said Jan. 9. “Prayer,” he continued, “always transforms reality, always. If things do not change around us, at least we change, change our heart. Jesus promised the gift of the Holy Spirit to every man and to every woman who prays.” In his continuing catechesis on the ‘Our Father,’ Pope Francis reflected on Jesus’ instructions about prayer in the Gospel of Luke, chapter 11, when he teaches his disciples “to pray and to insist in prayer.” “He promised us: He is not like a father who gives a snake instead of a fish. There is nothing more certain: the desire for happiness that we all carry in our hearts will one day be fulfilled,” he stated. Francis noted the very first words Jesus taught his disciples to use when praying: “Our Father.” “We can stay all the time in prayer with that word alone: ‘Father.’ And to feel that we have a father: not a master or a stepfather. No: a father,” he added. “The Christian addresses God by calling him above all ‘Father.’” Recalling the verse in Luke which says, “What father among you would hand his son a snake when he asks for a fish?” he invoked the experience of fathers and grandfathers, when their hungry children and grandchildren ask and cry for food: “You feed him what he asks for, for the good of him,” he said. “With these words Jesus makes us understand that God always answers, that no prayer will remain unheard,” he said, adding: “Why? Because he is a Father, and he does not forget his children who suffer.”

If you’d like to know more about God and prayer, consider listening to the following message by Dr. Richard Caldwell: https://youtu.be/bixbYSiOeuk Visit our website to listen to more related messages: https://straighttruth.net/does-god-hear-and-answer-the-prayers-of-an-unbeliever-or-unrepentant-sinner/ Description: Does God care about the prayers of an unbeliever? Does God even listen to the prayers of sinners? Are there times when God hears our prayers but does not answer? This week on the Straight Truth Podcast, Dr. Richard Caldwell and host, Dr. Josh Philpot address these questions regarding prayer. They seek to give us faithful answers from the Bible in how God has revealed Himself and in what He makes clear to us there. Dr. Caldwell says when we speak of God seeing, hearing, and listening, we need to know that these are human terms. God is spirit and does not have a body, He does not have physical human appendages. Yet, the Scriptures teach us God is omnipresent and omniscient. He sees all and He knows all, there is nothing that God doesn’t know. So in this sense, we can say God does hear the prayers of unbelievers, but as to Him answering those prayers, our answer must be and will be qualified. The Prayers of His people Versus the Prayers of the Lost Dr. Caldwell begins by explaining that there is a clear and distinct difference in the Word of God with respect to God’s attitude toward the prayers of His people versus the prayers of the lost. As God’s people we can know that He hears us and answers us, 1 John 5:13-14 affirms this. The hearing in this passage is associated with us asking according to His will. So God hears and responds favorably in accord to those who come desiring His will. Dr. Caldwell continues by saying, but for the lost (unbelievers/unconverted), they do not have the mind of Christ. They do not ask according to God’s will. Instead, they ask according to their own desires and intentions of their own hearts. He shows us from 1 Peter 3:8-12, some distinctions that God looks at in the hearts of the righteous and the hearts of the wicked. He then tells us the book of James takes up the issue of unanswered prayer in several places e.g., James 1:5-7, James 4:3, James 4:6. These Scriptures help us to see that our prayers must spring forth out of a life that delights in God, a life that desires to please Him and for Him to be pleased by our requests. There are Also Times When God Does Not Answer the Prayers of Believers Dr. Caldwell goes on to remind us that there are also times when God does not answer the prayers of believers. Believers’ prayers can be affected by their sinfulness. There are times when a believer feels guilty for their failures and feels unworthy to come before the Lord. Often times we come asking for the wrong things with the wrong motives. Other times we are asking without taking action on our sins the Father has revealed. These may result in feeling distanced before God. We might see a leanness in our prayer life and/or see our prayers hindered or go unanswered. These may be signals that we need to come before God confessing and dealing with our sin. As Christians, we have been saved by and through the blood of Christ. We've been given direct access to the throne of God. We are encouraged to come boldly to the throne of grace to find help in times of need (Hebrews 4:14-16). None of us is worthy in ourselves but we have Christ, who is our great high priest, who did not sin and He alone is worthy. He can, He will and does intercede for us. If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us (1John 1:9). Yet we must come and we must come humbly, asking, seeking, and knocking according to His will, not ours. So Then, Does God Answer the Prayers of Unbelievers? So then, does God answer the prayers of unbelievers? There are times in the Bible when He did not (Psalm 18:40-41) and there are several instances where He responded favorably (Genesis 21:14-19, Jonah 1:5-16, Jonah 3:3-10, Mark 7:24-30, Acts 10:1-6), but there are no verses in Scripture that say He always does or will. God is sovereign, He is free to respond to the cry and need of any man, woman or child as He wills and desires. He does whatever He pleases e.g., Psalm 115:3, Psalm 135:6, Daniel 4:35.

Please watch: "The ONE Thing Every Christian Should Be Doing But Most Are NOT!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slK6HI8tUTY --~-- Do you want to see more of your prayers being answered? Are you tired of praying and not seeing any results? Today I want to share with you how you can pray more effectively. Okay so today I want to share with you 3 practical ways you can improve your prayer life and hopefully see more answers to prayer (that’s what we all want right?) 1. Pray with a PURE HEART – There are at least 5 reasons that the Bible teaches you can pray as hard as you can and God won’t answer your prayers. a. Marital conflict – 1 Pet. 3:7 – God is like, “if you’re not treating your spouse right don’t come asking me for anything.” b. You’ve offended someone – Matt. 5:23-24 - So if you’ve offended someone and you haven’t sought that person’s forgiveness then God says don’t come asking me for anything. c. Unforgiveness – Matt. 6:14-15 – Also if you’re unwilling to forgive others God won’t answer your prayers because you’re not willing to do the very thing that opens up the door for you to even pray to God. d. Unconfessed sin – Ps. 66:18 – Also if you have any known sin in your life you should ALWAYS confess it before asking God for anything. e. Wrong motives – Jam. 4:3 – You’re asking God for something but it’s really a selfish motivation God may not answer that prayer. f. So make sure to check the condition of your heart before you ever ask God for anything. 2. Pray Persistently – Now this is where many of us fail. Do you know why many of our prayers aren’t being answered? It’s because we don’t PERSIST in prayer. We pray one or two times and then when God doesn’t answer we give up. But notice that even Jesus encourages us to pray repeatedly. a. Matt. 7:7 – He said, “The Bible says, “ask, seek, knock.” When you go to someone’s house you don’t knock one time and expect them to open the door. You keep on knocking until they open the door. Why because you know they are home. In the same way, God is inviting us to keep on knocking on heaven’s door until it opens or until God clearly shows you that it is not His will for your life. b. You may ask, “why won’t God just give me what I want the first time?” It’s because persistent, repeated prayer demonstrates that we truly believe in our heart that the God we are praying to has the ability to bring to pass that which we are praying for. And faith always pleases the heart of God. Maybe God is waiting for you to continue to persist in prayer before He answers your request. c. Luke 18 d. ENDING QUESTION: What prayer have you given up on praying for because God hasn’t answered it in your timetable? I encourage you to persist in prayer until you get a clear answer from God no matter how long it takes. 3. Pray Precisely/Specifically – Have you ever noticed how many of our prayers are basic? I’m reminded of the story in Mark 10 where a blind man is crying our repeatedly, “Jesus have mercy on me” (persistent but not specific) so much so that the people around him told him to shut up. Finally, Jesus invited him to come to him and asked him, “WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO FOR YOU?” And the man said, “I want to see.” And he received his sight. The point is not that the man was healed but rather that Jesus is INVITING us to be more specific with our requests. It forces you to really think about what it is you are trusting God for. HOW WILL YOU KNOW YOUR PRAYER IS ANSWERED IF IT’S NOT SPECIFIC? If God were to pose this question to you, how would you answer? So if your prayer life has gotten a little stale, I want to encourage you starting today that when you pray to make sure that first of all your heart is pure before God, secondly no matter how tired you get to persist in prayer and finally, don’t be afraid to ask God specifically for what you want. God in His word is inviting us to pray this way.

Why Should We Pray? God insists that we ask, not because He needs to know our situation, but because we need the spiritual discipline of asking. — Catherine Marshall Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. — Philippians 4:6 So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. — Luke 11:9-10 Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them. —Matthew 18:19-20 The point of prayer is not to get answers from God, but to have perfect and complete oneness with Him. — Oswald Chambers Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. — Colossians 4:2 What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the Lord our God is near us whenever we pray to Him? —Deuteronomy 4:7 Come near to God and He will come near to you. — James 4:8 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. — Hebrews 4:16 The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on Him in truth. — Psalm 145:18 [We should pray] because prayer is the most important part of the thankfulness God requires of us. And also because God gives His grace and Holy Spirit only to those who pray continually and groan inwardly, asking God for these gifts and thanking Him for them. —Heidelberg Catechism How can I repay the Lord for all his goodness to me?… I will sacrifice a thank offering to you and call on the name of the Lord. — Psalm 116:12, 17 For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer. — 1 Timothy 4:4-5 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. — Ephesians 5:19-20 Speaker: Derek Prince ---------------------------- Want to Help Me Out Financially to Make more Videos Like This? https://www.patreon.com/aando God Bless You For All Your Support to This Channel Instagram: @aandoproduction

In 2011 God wrecked my life. And I have no doubt it was an answer to prayer. In 2008 my business was very successful. We had the dream lifestyle. I was working less than 4 hours a day from my laptop, spending my afternoons riding my motorcycle, getting massages and playing with the kids. I was traveling all the time. I thought I was on top of the world yet deep within I knew I was running from God and the only thing that really matters in this life (Jesus Christ). Since I was in my early twenties I always felt that God was calling me to follow him To die to this life to a point I was never willing to. I ran from God. I ignored Him and pretended I didn’t hear His call to die. To follow. To take up my cross. By 2008 and amidst my success it became easier to ignore Him. Until that morning. One spring morning in 2009 when I was compelled to lay it all on the altar. I knew what I was being called to do – submit entirely to God’s will. To actually pray with sincerity “thy will be done.” You see this was hard because I knew what it meant deep down. I knew that there was no way I could make it through the narrow door described in Luke 13:23 if there was anything I would put before Him. Jesus teaches if we are not willing to lose everything for Him then we are not worthy of Him. If we are not willing to forsake all for Christ then we can’t have Him. Jesus makes this clear. We just hope he doesn’t ask. Right? Yet I prayed and asked Him to do whatever was necessary to accomplish His purposes in my life for his glory. I remember thinking, “What am I doing?” Why can’t I just continue on the way things are. I can love God and enjoy business success. I can give more money to the poor and take my kids to Sunday School, serve down at the mission and so on and so forth. We can listen to Christian radio and do all the good ole American church stuff and that will be good enough. Right? My conscience told me no. Well, be careful what you pray for. I remember sitting in my car and praying, “God, I am tired of running from you and I am scared to death of wasting my life on trivial pursuits. I know that you are calling me to follow you and to lay it all on the altar. Do with me what you want according to your will. I want my life to matter for you even if it cost me everything. That prayer scared me to death. And I am here to tell you that God answers prayer when we seek His will and His glory in faith. That prayer was in spring 2009 and business declined steadily over the next year and a half and by fall 2011 we had lost everything including our home. I believe God stripped me of everything so that I could know true dependence on Him. Without faith it is impossible to please God but without realizing our utter and total dependence on Him we cannot have faith. It is impossible. That is why we tend to only (earnestly) seek Him when we are in a bind and we have exhausted all other resources. You see until then we are also trusting in ourselves and our own solutions. True faith always involves an element of desperation. It is impossible to have true faith without a feeling of hopelessness and a sense that there are no other options. God loves to put His power on display when He is going to get the credit. “Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. “John 14:13 Until we reach a point of desperate dependence on God it is too easy to dismiss the hand of God as the answer to prayer and instead credit our own efforts or those of others. God demands the glory and will not share it with another. Everyone wants to grow their 401K and secure their future and so on and so forth and that is all fine and good but no amount of security beats the precious intimacy you experience when God’s Grace is your only sufficiency. I thank God every day for His provision and I pray that he never allow me to become so self-reliant again. I pray that God will keep me in a state of complete dependence on Him for all things both worldly and spiritual. Whatever he needs to do to keep me broken I pray he will do for His glory. Thank God of His grace and mercy. I encourage you to step out in faith and lay it all on the altar. Keep nothing from Jesus and ask Him to make Himself all you need and watch the miracleshappen. I want to end with Philippians 3:7-10 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ.Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christand be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,

How to Pray and Always Get Results by Shane Wall - Secrets to Supernatural Prayer We know we need to pray to God, but if we'd be honest, we don't always feel like praying. We may even question why we should even pray. We all want to receive answers to prayer, just how Jesus received positive answers to His prayer when He would pray to God. He had the Holy Spirit help Him to pray, and we have the precious Holy Spirit to help us pray as well! Shane Wall declares that, of course we know that because we are Christians, and we belong to God, we realize that we're supposed to pray. A lot of people believe that prayer is a hardened task that we’ve been commanded to bear, instead of a loving way to enjoy a relationship with our all-knowing Father. Shane Wall gives supernatural secrets to prayer. Many times we pray, asking God for what we want, and we just hope that we see what we asked for. Whenever we go to God, the first thing that we need to do is to have it in our hearts and minds that God is our Father, and He knows what we need. One of the major secrets, and one of the top secrets to always getting results in prayer and seeking God's power active in our lives is knowing that He knows what is best for us. Not only do we need to trust that He knows what is best for us. We also need to inquire and ask God what He desires to do to resolve our situations, every situation. Too often we get discouraged and don't desire to pray, but then we hear of those who pray for hours on end, and we wonder how in the world they can do so. Relationship is the key. How do we see ourselves in relation to God? Try this. Instead of viewing our relation to God as Creator to creature, we should begin, or further develop a loving closeness with Him, as Father to child, with all the affections that come with knowing Him that way. We are living in the last days and the devil knows it and is seeking with fever pitch to give counterfeit answers to prayers to God (See Rev. 12:12). The Devil seeks to confuse and mislead the most sincere. No one is off limits to his powerful temptations (see 1 Cor. 10:13). Jesus is our only hope to protect us from the deceptions and lies of the enemy of our souls (see John 8:32). The devil will seek to lead people to choose the wrong career, to marry the wrong person and end up with a nightmare marriage and possible divorce. The devil seeks to lead people to the wrong friends, the wrong beliefs, the wrong church (see John 10:10). He is playing the game of life and if we are not on guard every day we shall be swept away by the devils lies (See James 4:7). We have no fear but that we will RECOGNIZE true answers to our prayers from God IF we are humble and teachable and always on our guard. Why pray? Does God hear our prayers? Will God answer our prayers? Knowing the power of prayer is essential to the Christian life. In today’s devotional Bible study, we’ll look into the book of Ezra. In this sometimes forgotten Old Testament book of the Bible, we see just how significant the number 42,360 can be when it comes to understanding that when we talk to God through prayer, he not only hears us, but God answers prayer. Ezra 2:64 – “The whole assembly together was 42,360.” *** Click below to Subscribe for new devotionals every Tuesday! https://www.youtube.com/user/BibleMunch?sub_confirmation=1 *** Connect Daily ► Facebook -- https://www.facebook.com/BibleMunch ► Twitter -- https://www.twitter.com/BibleMunch ► Instagram -- https://www.instagram.com/BibleMunch

Believers often wonder why their prayers are not answered, when even Jesus said as I read from John 15:7"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ASK WHATEVER YOU WISH, AND IT WILL BE DONE FOR YOU. " why is it then that our prayers are not answered? There is a CONDITION, Jesus said:"If YOU ABIDE IN ME and My words abide in you." If the words of Jesus abide in us, THEN WE CAN ASK AND WE WILL RECEIVE. I read further verse 8"My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.9"Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. 10"If you KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. 11"These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full." If the words of Jesus are not ALIVE in us then our prayers will not be answered. Many believers disregard the words of Jesus (as also written in the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John). They ignore Jesus. They say they believe in Him for salvation but they DISOBEY Him. If we disregard Him, He disregards us and that is why our prayers are not answered. He wants to answer our prayers. He wants us to have joy in our relationship with Him. He wants to give us all things freely BUT we need to abide in His words, we need to LOVE HIM. If we do not OBEY Him then we do not love Him. If we want Him for the sake of the benefits then we are selfish, then we don't love Him. We must love Jesus more than anything and we must OBEY Him. If we disregard Him and live in unrighteousness He will not answer our prayers! God does not answer the prayers of sinners, of people who refuse to repent. We read in Isaiah 59:1 "Behold, the LORD'S hand is not so short that it cannot save; nor is His ear so dull that it cannot hear. 2But YOUR INIQUITIES HAVE MADE A SEPARATION BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR GOD, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear." That is the problem! If you are living in sin, if you are living in unrighteousness, God does not hear your prayer. YOU ARE PRAYING IN VAIN! First repent, first turn away from your sin and then call on God. First OBEY Jesus and then He will answer your prayer, and He will answer EVERY PRAYER. If we do not abide IN Christ, IN HIS WILL, if we do not truly love Him and obey Him, we have nothing to do with Him and HE WILL NOT ANSWER OUR PRAYERS. We must draw closer to Him and He will draw closer to us. We prove our love for Him, through our obedience to Him. If you want your prayers answered, draw closer to Jesus. Get rid of your sins. Go clean out your house. Go get rid of everything that is more important to you than Jesus because it is either His way or it is NO WAY. Jesus alone is the WAY and the TRUTH and the LIFE, there is no other. There is NO PEACE, NO FULFILLMENT, NO JOY without Jesus. Jesus Christ is ALL that you need. Abide in Him. May Jesus bless you. When we are in difficulties, we turn to turn to God in prayer, asking him to give us relief. When we don’t see an immediate response, we wonder why God doesn’t answer our prayers. Shaykh Hamza Karamali explains that God does, in fact, answer all of our prayers, but the only way for us to see that is if we understand that the purpose of our prayer and supplication is to cling to God, not to the thing that we are asking for. This is part of the series presented by SeekersGuidance in Ramadan 2019, "Why? Sincere Questions, Sincere Answers." We often wonder, “Why?”--Why does God want us to worship Him? Why does He send people to the Hellfire? Why can’t Muslims eat pork? Why is life so miserable? Why did the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) fight so many wars? In this series of Ramadan lessons (live daily at 5.15 p.m. South Africa time), Shaykh Hamza Karamali teaches us the etiquette of asking such questions, carefully analyzes what exactly each question means, highlights common logical fallacies, and then shows us how God answers these questions in the Qur’an. He then shows us how God, too, asks us, “Why?”, sometimes explicitly, sometimes implicitly--Why don’t you believe? Why don’t you worship Me? Why are you ungrateful? Why don’t you ask me? Why do you despair? He explains what such questions mean, shows us where in the Qur’an God asks us these questions, and helps us reflect and find honest answers to these questions. Prayer is seriously powerful business. So often, though, we treat it as a perfunctory task to be checked off our daily to-do list. How can we shift our attitudes from boredom and obligation to joy and expectation? The Lord always inclines His ear to His children. In this message, Dr. Stanley shares the foundational principles of effective prayer, and encourages us to confidently approach God with our petitions and requests. Before watching this video, I ask you all to please watch this video the Lord led this brother to upload on the very same topic one day later- http://youtu.be/hoLtvzZ1fLw titled, "God Answers Prayer". It emphasizes serious aspects that I needed to mention in my video: Specifically that while God is real and hears our prayers, we need a personal relationship with Him where we seek Him moment by moment- not for blessings, healings or answers to problems, but we need to seek Him for HIMSELF. If we are in communion with Him, we only want what He wants for us- and we no longer come to the point where we follow Him for the "Loaves and Fishes"- We follow Him for Himself and to become closer and closer to Him. This is an actual event in my life --one of many surreal incidents that took all doubts and excuses away that God is indeed very real, and hears everyone of us, yet He answers those who sincerely seek Him. With every answered prayer from those who seek Him-, His aim is to bring us to a more closer intimate walk with Him- Even sufferings and trials can be an answer to our prayer for a more closer intimacy with Him! It's all about our relationship with Jesus- not asking for blessings to make us comfortable with ourselves! Skeptics: never say never. I was like you at one time so I can't judge you. If you try to meet God part of the way, He will meet you the other half of the way. I learned that truth through a lifetime of experiences such as this! I will pray for you that you will discover the same as I have in my life. May you permit Love to help you look upwards. The Musical Score is titled, "The Door in The Air" from the Chronicles of Narnia Soundtrack. You can find this beautiful album at Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, and other fine retailers. You can find Jesus by simply seeking Him. :-)

Sadhguru explains that a prayer is not a vocal communication or "long-distance call" with God. Prayer is a quality, not an act. It is a way of creating a state of receptivity within us, by involving ourselves completely. **************************************** Transcript: http://isha.sadhguru.org/blog/video/prayer-is-not-a-long-distance-call/ Sadhguru: Probably in this part of the world, if I utter the word prayer, immediately people will think sitting down and saying something to somebody up there. Some of you may know simple English prayers, some of you may know complicated Latin, Arabic, Sanskrit whatever kind of prayers. But essentially prayer unfortunately has been understood as a way like it’s some kind of a long-distance call. Prayer is not an act, it’s just a certain quality that you bring in to your life. In somewhere in 1860s certain missionaries came to central part of India which is now called as Madhya Pradesh and they were scouting the tribal districts because that is where the potential conversions are there. Then they heard there is a particular yogi around whom thousands of people are gathering. So, they thought he build a some kind of a church and people are gathering, let’s go and see. Competition, you know! So they went there, when they went there they couldn’t believe this, there was no Church, there were not even a home, the yogi was just sitting under a tree. All he had was a loin cloth, bare bodied, he was just sitting there; somebody who looks like he’s not worth anything and they got little encouraged. Okay, there’s not much of a competition but then they found hundreds and thousands of people gathering around him. Then they were amazed oh what’s happening here, he must be having some kind of power. So, when they got an appointment with him they asked what kind of prayers do you teach. Then he looked at them and laughed and said, Oh you are men of cloth, you are men of prayer aren’t you? You have done much prayer obviously in your life. Today, you just see some prayer, don’t do it just see it. They said how can we see prayer. He said just watch me now and he took some vegetables and started cutting. He said, this is my prayer just watch it, quite carefully watch it. This is the prayer. So, prayer is not just ……. prayer is a way of involving your whole body and getting it into a certain attitude of receptivity, of seeing. Prayer is essentially seeing that your presence here is so miniscule actually. You are just a speck of dust in this existence, tomorrow morning woof if you disappear nobody is going to miss you. A few people around you will cry for three days and then they will forget about you. Rest of the existence will just go on fine without you, isn’t it? All of this disappear, still this world will go on wonderfully well, maybe better (laughter). Yes or no. This self-assumed importance that man has created within himself, when you keep it aside you are in prayer. If you manage to keep aside the assumed importance that you have for yourself, then you are in prayer, you don’t have to say anything.
